this compass thing is super annoying.

compass i think is fine the maps doe they be pretty tricky

the compass said there's not more aether nearby but I still can't fly and it didn't tell me what to do next.

Did you clear "Dusk Vigil"? That's the condition to fly in Western Coerthas.

Am I missing a menu that show the flying condition in each area? I skipped all the tutorials and now I'm screwed.

there are 5 aethers you get from quests.

also that is in travel menu, just look above teleport and such.

what are those aethers with magnifier icon? doesn't have any explanation in this menu at all. what's wrong with this game? always have a tutorial for every obvious thing but not for something important.

2 days in Heavensward and I hate it already. everything is locked locked locked locked and require me to do boring quest.

Those are currents you get from doing quests.

those are quest ones, you must continue the storyline to a certain point and side quests (and mainquests) will give you aethers.

Hate to break it to you but those red ones are rewarded for doing "boring" quests. A mix of msq and sidequests. One of them i n that area is from the dungeon dusk vigil.

It was explained, you just skipped it as you mentioned above. Each area has a few aether currents that can only be gained from specific quests.

ok, I gave up. too much effort to unlock something that was promoted as a key feature of the game. I feel like playing A Realm Reborn with new maps.

I'm not sure how playing the game normally is effort...but that's your decision.

Just note that flying is far, far faster than ground mounting. You'll really be missing out.

why stop now? just do the side quests they will help lvl you up fast anyways!

lol, you will be missing ALOT of fun if you dont wanna those "boring qeusts" its realy not that bad though, you'll get to know the area first and then you do sideqeusts to fly ! or the other way around but evenso the extra xp you get from those qeust's is very welcome since the main story doesnt realy give much

I'm just curious how you plan to level without doing those quests. Do you plan to fate grind to 60? You will still need to do the msq at some point which rewards several of those air currents.

not sure anymore if your trolling or not xD but yeah you'll have to do those boring qeust's if you wanna do a dungeon... and if your a dps i would avoid dungeons for now cuz it's gonna take hours for it to pop xD

first dungeon is from the quest *for all the nights to come* do the main story till this quest appears :)

Generally in games (all games) you have progress from the start to earn and unlock new content - have never played one before? :p

In FFXIV it's always been the case you have to run through the main story to unlock other content (well bar 1.0 when there wasn't much of any content or story). What made you think this would have been different. The main story is actually very good, enjoy the story and it will go much faster.

I saw someone piloting a personal airship. I want it but I bet it's gonna require a lot of time and gil. and also force me to level up several DoH classes.

False, you get it in the main story around... 54-55ish. No DoH required, I promise.

She's right, everything is locked. I'm a casual player I've been stuck half a lvl from 52 for a whole day and I can't progress in the main scenario until I get that level up. I've tried grinding FATEs but it is taking forever doing it solo in the new areas for the absurd low amount of xp, especially as a whm. I did ARR dungeons and got no XP. I'm just about to give up with all these walls to climb. I normally don't complain but just to do get to the first dungeon is a big mountain to climb for me as a whm. I'm just about to give up. I keep forgetting why I keep quitting, I love this game but some times it can drive you insane.

Go back to ishgard, there should be a few extra breadcrumb quests that popped up to lead you to more.
