Confused About Collectables

I took notice of the new BTN skills that are related to "collectables". I read the patch notes about it, but it's not telling me much about the actual process.

I tried it of my own before asking for help or advice. I'm still confused. Of all the gathering spots I tried (which is many), I only saw two items that were collectable. Both being from the unspoiled nodes of The Dravanian Forelands.

I start by using the skill and gathering the item in question, which brings up the new window. When I use either of my three skills, it increases rarity and wear. I still follow, it's similar to crafting.

When I use either of my skills, rarity goes up by about 100, wear increases by 10 or 15, and at the end, I end up with around 300/1000 rarity, and that's about it. I try to collect, and I always fail. And that's it. I lose my unspoiled node. I gather nothing. I tried this five times thus far and that was the outcome everytime.

So I'm confused. Help?

The important thing is that the more wear you create, the less your chance of successfully gathering it is.

Beyond that I don't know much. Something something fisher main instead.

I don't think you can actually do any of this for a few levels anyway. I'm not sure why it unlocks at 50 instead of 55 like the turn in.

At this point i wanna ask bout house of splendors. Anyone knows where and how it works for the tradeins?

So far the only collectable items i found were from unspoiled nodes. There are some in Coerthas Western Highlands and Dravanian Forelands so I think they can be found with lvl 50 already, with 51 it works for sure. However, its possible that you need a flying mount to reach some of them. Note that unlike the hidden nodes from ARR, these new ones last for only 1hr, so you have to hurry if you wanna gather from them and its another reason to get a flying mount first.
For example Yellow Copper Ore is collectable and can be mined between 12 and 1 in CWH (not sure if PM or/and AM).
However, apparently you wont get blue scrips until you are at a higher level. You can get some nice extra exp though.

how it works:
- first you need to reveal the item with Toil of the Mountaineer or by clicking the correct slot (its the second slot in this case)
- then make sure you have the skill Collector's Glove activated so it lets you gather Collectables and not normal items.
- when you click on the ore, a new window will open that shows the item's Wear and Rarity (similar to Durability and Quality when crafting)
- now you can use the new Appraisal skills to increase the Rarity (Quality) of the item. This will also increase the item's Wear AND it will decrease your gathering attempts by 1!
- you can do this until you reach the maximum Wear (30/30), if you go past that, it will decrease your chance to gather the item (you can use your normal gatherer skills to increase the gathering chance, but it doesnt seem to work after exceeding the maximum Wear)
- when you are happy with your rarity (the NPC in Mor Dhona accepts only items above a certain Rarity, the higher the more rewards) you can use your remaining gathering attempts to collect one or more items.

One more tip: If you gather something useless, either because the npc doesnt want it or the rarity is too low, you can right click and "Lower Quality" to turn the collectable into a normal NQ item.

You can absolutely do it now. However, prior to 56, none of the Collectibles are actually worth Scrip - just EXP.

Where can we turn in collectibles? I have a bunch from fishing but I don't know what to do with them ahah.

Found the NPCs! They're in Mor Dhona behind the NPC that unlocks and gives you the collectable skills and such.

^pretty much this, atleast on lower levels. One thing Id like to add to it is that you can harvest multiple collectibles on the same node, as long as you have gathering attemps left. So if you already have your desired collectible value, consider collecting the item twice, instead of adding more collectible value.

I tried this on the Yellow Copper Core.

Without exceeding maximum wear (30), I can gather at 96% success rate.
But if I use the +50% success rate skill, then exceed the maximum wear (45), the success rate drops to 10% in one go.

It seems that unless you're gathering something you severely overgear, don't even bother trying to collect over the maximum wear.

I think you lose like 20% for every 5 wear above 30. What I have found works best at 57 MIN is to first use Deep Breath > Impulsive Appraisal > Instinctual Appraisal if Discerning Eye procs or another Impulsive. At that point if you're going for EXP turn-ins in Mor Dhona then stop there because you should be around 400 rarity. If not you can do one more and not go above 30 Wear. The more skills you use the less you can collect for a higher rarity.

It took me a few days, but I finally understood what I did wrong initially. My mistake was that I thought it worked like crafting, where "going over" doesn't matter (i.e. 5 durability left, you use a Synthesis skill and get the required progress done, and everything's fine). I was going over the maximum wear, thus reducing my collect chance significantly. It's easy to understand now, but at first, the skill descriptions confused me to no end. The first emergency patch that fixed many descriptions/typos all over Heavensward helped greatly.

Yeah I found out after making the post and just haven't been back to the thread to correct myself.

I have a couple questions of my own though.
1) can I do anything with the normal items or ones that are too low to turn in?

2)I don't know if this is a bug or not but sometimes I can put them in my retainer and sometimes I can't. Anyone know why?

so was just leveling my fisher with collectors glove n snaggin on for kicks.. starting gettin collectible fish.. rangin from 800-112 whats the maximum collectibility score n how does the score affect trade in for scribs does any1 know please?

does it have to be over a certain collectible value to earn x amount of scribs??

I'm not yet in a position to collect Scrips, BUT I have been using Collectables as a source of gathering exp. If you check your Rowena Timers (its under the Timers, last thing on the list) you will see three things at the bottom of that window, in the Payment section : Base, and two Bonus. The Base tells you what the bare minimum Collectability rating they will accept for that item is, and the experience points / scrips you get for handing that in. Now, if your item's Collectability exceeds that of the Base range, then you fall into one of the two Bonus categories, which again tell you the requirement, and the rewards for handing that item in.

so more or less similar to GC and ixal exchange to a point?? will only accept certain 1s daily?

Will only accept certain ones ... but will take an unlimited number of them, at least until what they want changes. IE - you can hand in one Collectable Yellow Copper Ore, or you can spend the time to gather 48 of the things and hand them all in.

only problem with stocking alot of collectibles is tho they dont stack :(

This system was infuriating to understand because you have such a limited window to try it out. I completely missed my first two attempts because I spent too long trying to figure out what to do and the ridiculously low timer on the node ran out. That said, it just takes a little getting used to and is only barely viable at low levels if you have good gear.

As a 51 miner should I not bother with this yet? Just focus on leveling?

Oh, DEFINITELY focus on it!

Depending upon your gear you should be able to get a couple of Collectibles. Main thing here being your GP - you'll want 600. That is so you can use Discerning Eye three times on the node, boosting your Collectability rating from the Appraisal each time. Stick with the first, Methodical, for a while. You should be able to collect two items each node at a decent (depending on Perception) Collectability rating.

I find that the exp from handing in Collectibles is greater than the exp from doing two Leves for that same level.

You can easily gather collectible yellow copper ore at level 51. Use it to supplement your leveling by hitting the minimum collectible requirement and then gathering as many as possible. At level 51 you'll probably cap out at 2 per unspoiled node. Note that two at minimum collectible is more exp than 1 at maximum collectible.

I would also recommend to those at lvl 50-51 that when your upping quality, choose "quantity over quality" as an example, base turn-in exp for yellow copper or per (min quality is 240 iirc), you get 64k exp. the next tier of quality adds around 10k exp max. so it's better to turn in 2 of lower quality then 1 higher quality, you get much more exp for them!

I'd also mention that this is simply the fastest way to level your gathering, period. once you get the process down, you can easily get 250k exp about every 15m or so (whatever time it takes for the Eorza clock to rotate 12 hours). using no leave quests, and spending no more then 2-3 minutes porting over to western Coerthas and flying/riding to the spot. it's really that easy and that fast.

I also recommend that you unlock flying in those zones asap. saves you a ton of time once the node pops up. their spawn locs are pretty spread out, and with all the hills and ramps you have to run up, it can really eat into your node access time w/o flying.

As a level 50 miner/botanist (was only 1-star gatherer pre 3.0) I am able to successfully gather 4 items at the minimum collectability on both miner and botanist. The EXP from this is around 250k each, and in the 9 game hours between the last level 50 node and the next available one i'm able to fit in 3-4 levequests worth about 60k each. It levelled up my botanist with very little effort, and makes the whole process much more interesting.

As other people have stated, more items of lower collectability is key. For me, hitting the node (don't use toil), then using Discerning Eye > Methodical Appraisal > Methodical Appraisal > (Ability to recover one gathering attempt) > collect x4. If your Gathering % chance is lower you can also use an ability to increase it by 15% if you have 600GP total. This makes for pretty dependable exp and a fast levelling experience :)

this is about the results I got as well. Even with no levequests, just hopping over to CWH as often as I could remember to, my miner actually outpaced my Warrior in levels! it's that easy. and i miss the timers allot. my warrior is currently grinding her way to 56 so she can continue the story, and my Miner is 56 already and halfway to 57!


my current confusion is understanding the appraisal skills. As an example, Methodical Appraisal says, "Increases Item rarity by Perception x1." my current perception is 457 in NQ white lvl 55 craft gear....but when i use the skill on it's own, im lucky to get more then 200 on the item itself. Am I missing something? is there some multiplier on the item im trying to collect? if it matters any, km lvl 56, and these are results from the lvl 51 items (yellow copper). isn't it supposed to be my perception? shouldn't i be getting 457 per use?

I said it somewhere in another thread, but basically, I think that where they said Perception, they really meant Efficiency.

Consider Crafting. Basic touch has 100% Efficiency, 70% chance of success. Standard Touch has 125% Efficiency, 80% chance of success. Careful Synthesis has 90% Efficiency, 100% chance of success. The Efficiency involved means that the skills will work, based on something else. ST is 25% stronger than BT. CS is 10% weaker than Basic Synthesis (which is 100% Efficiency, 90% chance of success). The Touches are Efficiency based on Control, the Synthesis actions are Efficiency based on Craftsmanship.

For the Appraisal skills, I think its a case of Efficiency, based on Perception.

Just throwing out some info for people struggling to gather collectibles for scrips.

1.)Do not use toil, hit the slot to open it up.
2.) 600 gp makes it very very easy. Can be achieved with food or melds.
3.) When you first unlock a node, you wont get anything worthwhile from it with the wasted actions/gather attempts to unlock it. Use a discernment + methodical on it. This will let you know how many you can gather. See below.
4.) With discernment if you get 150-168, you can do disc + meth x3 and then gather 2 times on 450 rarity items.
5.) With disc+ meth if you get 169+, you can gather 3 items by using disc+methx2 and the 200 gp ability you learn at 56 mind something + meth.

For exp use the same basis.
1.)For yellow copper use disc+meth then meth then solid reason and gather x4.

400 rarity items use disc+meth and if you get 169+ use meth x2 then solid reason and gather x3. At 56 use disc+ meth mind+methx2 and gather x4. If you get less then 169 use disc+methx2 and then meth and gather x2 until 56+ then you can disc+methx2 then mind+meth and gatherx3.

450 rarity is the same way. Use disc+meth and if you get 169+ use disc+meth again then mind+meth and gatherx3. Otherwise use disc+methx3 and gatherx2.

I was getting upwards of 1.4mil every 30 minutes post 56. This makes leveling obscenely easy.

Does anyone know how the rarity gains works, it says it's based on perception but after gaining some stats with lvl 55 gear it didn't get any better and stuck to 110.

Your best bet is to upgrade your off-hand tool (main hand as well if you can!) as you'll find the largest perception increase which will give you much better rarity gains. Just keep at it!

I believe that's what Roth was referring to in his comment above (in response to my question about the same). It's about Efficiency. in his example, even though you may have a control level of 300, on a touch synthesis (crafting skill), you won't get an increase of 300 in quality every time. it will be a number based on your control + the difficulty of the item + <I'm sure there's other numbers in here as well> = the actual increase of the quality of the item. on items with lower levlel then you, the number will be higher then your control...in at level items and higher, it will be lower.

with collectibles, Roth is theorizing that the actual increase in rarity is a similar equation based on perception. And given that, I'm inclined to agree with him, it seems to fit, and it correlates with all the collectibles I've tried so far.

So Moral of this story...increasing your Perception will increase rarity per use, but it's not a 1/1 ratio as the tooltip would lead you to believe.

The YCO does not move around.

yea.. has always been slot 2 for Yellow Copper Ore

Trying abalathian rock salt and getting about 264 collectability. I need more perception to increase this so I can get scripts?

Most likely. That, or you need to adjust your rotation.
