So...you're upset about not having instant access to content locked behind story progression and your solution is to cancel your pre-order and permanently deny yourself access to them at all? That hurts you more than SE and doesn't really prove any point.
Told be told I don't think it hurts me, I have a full time job and full time classes, I don't have a lot of free time to spend grinding away to get the artifact gear, and working through all of it to 2.5 quests at once, by the time I'm finished with classes which is another 8 months out of the last 3 years I might not want to keep playing, and o,e of the only reasons I was willing to get the exp pack, was to play drk, I've always liked drk since 4, and I've been playing ff games since 1990, when I got ff1 for christmas. So why would I spend 40.00 for something I can't use any of now, and the class lock is stupid, if by the time I might be able to play, I decide I don't really want to keep playing. As a side note my brother and sister in law are refusing to both with it too for the same reasons. So I don't see it hurting me, if I do want to get it when I'm able to play that part then I'll wait till it's cheaper at that time, if I'm still playing ff14.
This expansion isn't that it's a upgrade for existing players ONLY, it doesn't allow for the influx of anyone new to FFXIV period!! This Upgrade means existing players MUST finish the MSQ or not be able to get into the new content. Now I have one character in the new content but my others which I have more than one CANNOT get in because the Duty Finder is stuck everyone is either leveling a Darkknight or questing to 60, I do like they switched the quest rewards to something better on the quests but. I paid to START a machinist or Dark Knight NOT turn one of my current characters into one, this also serves as another turn off which many people WILL NOT buy into this. I understand everyone who has played since launch has an opinion, Square Enix is a company and companies want to make profits, this Upgrade is not an expansion and honestly it will hamper the title till that is changed.
Oh lord, this thread again. It's a done deal, so either accept it and enjoy the game, or move on to something else.
Hey my only problem is that they locked the new jobs behind the main quests. It makes no sense and it is completely pointless, that is my opinion. And yes it is a good enough reason for me to refund it if I can't play it I won't buy it , it's my money. I also won't support bad ideas. And this is me giving square feed back, and suggestions.
I agree with Orsonriven this is a suggestion forum, I think this hasn't netted Square Enix the profit influx they wanted because of this action. Money is king not story or quests it's dollars and if you want to make more you change things, the first iterations of this game I heard were awful but this current game is amazing and has potential that could outstrip WOW. Now if you laugh because World of Warcraft sucks well at 14.99 a month at it's height 30 million ($449,700,000. a month) subscribers make most people choke. No one new no matter how much increase in XP is gonna want to start at level 1 to go to level 50 get through to 2.55 MSQ to go back to level 30 and do 30 levels all over? Now it could be they have given it considerable thought and decided this was key but given I have heard no news that Square Enix has gotten a huge increase in subs since early access leads to the conclusion that this decision was wrong like it or not.
Orsonriven, Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG that focuses on story progression, which is very different from other MMORPGs (like TERA, Aion, ArcheAge, etc), since a lot of them focus on endgame being the game. It's not like other MMORPGs to get players to think about their character and what they want to achieve for them in the way Final Fantasy XIV does.
You are well within your rights to not buy the game due to your own opinions and concerns, but I'd also really encourage you to stay and play! Ignore the negative comments you get on here. There are going to be flaws by focusing on story progression, but once you've adjusted to it I think you'll understand and have a better appreciation for it. While Final Fantasy XIV has an 'endgame', the storyline and story quests are one of the main focuses of the game.
Sorry but this comment is unhelpful and I'd ask you to refrain from posting unhelpful comments like this again!
Yeah it has a good story .... Now, I did play during 1.0 and it was bad, yoshi p did a great job, but I can't say how long I will play this game or not, people have lives, and while story progression is a huge part and one I like, I repeat ( the jobs being locked behind all of 2.55 is POINTLESS) this part of the game doesn't progress any part of the story. They didn't lock thief or nin to the story they just put it out at lol 10, regardless, this post is me telling square a suggestion, don't lock jobs to the main quests.
They could make the jobs locked by level (have a class hit level 50 or something), like WoW did with Death Knight, and ofc, you needed to have the expansion to use it.
Having it locked via story was kinda - not the best solution - thing. I'm using an Astro and loving it... can't seem to find a reason to have it locked behind story, if I had to go back to older zones to level it...
I can't seem to find a positive point in this decision =\
At this point in the games life they are aiming to please the people who have subscribed the longest. That being said I see your point, if your not up to that content then by all means Walt on buying it. But for everyone else zip it, it's fine the way it is.
Why do you guys have that mentality?
It's already hard to make people play an MMO and stick to it nowadays, why make the first step harder? I don't want FF14 to go F2P, I want it full of people, the more the merrier.
I would've been really mad if I couldn't play Astro right away. It's one class that I wanted to play in an MMO, the other is Dancer, I would be very discouraged if I had to play a class that I don't want, just to get to a point, MANY DAYS later, where I could actually start playing with the class I wanted.
As soon as Astro got announced, I stopped playing FF14, just waiting for the expansion. There was no use for me to continue to gear up my bard if I was gonna drop it. I can only imagine what it might feel like to have to select a class you don't wanna play just to get to the one you actually want, it must kill all your hype.
I look forwards to other things that come out, but like I said there is still no reason to lock the jobs behind a story wall. With them trying to get New players in the game and to buy HW then lock all of the new jobs is not a good idea, people have lives and biodio is right, people shouldn't have to play through all of the old content as a class that's not what they want, it's time wasted and money wasted for some people. And focusing on only long time player hurts the game, the New players feel like they are on the outside, these are also people that play the game and will maybe be friends later down the road with you, if they buy the expan then the jobs can easily be unlocked at 30 or hell even lvl 50.
Perhaps you are looking at this in the wrong way. Instead of looking at this as punishment, you should view this as a right of passage to play the expansion. The truth is life is not fair and people should be treated differently. If you have been playing this game for a long while, put in the time to do the story and other jobs then you have earned to right to play the expansion along with the new jobs. To be honest, I respect Squares decision. They worked hard on on the content and I'm glad they still make it relevant to keep the whole world of the game alive instead of having dead zones cause everyone is in the expansion only.
To comment on the jobs being locked. If you want to be effective at endgame you will need to level more than one class regardless. FF14 does a really good job of making all the jobs/classes important. Playing multiple classes and understanding how they work only makes you a better player. Also square has considered their new players...that is why you have to level in the older zones. To keep the whole world of the game still alive and not barren. Also older players get rewards for doing older dungeons and this also helps newer players. Square is a smart company and they are concerned about their game as a whole and not just what is fair. If you think its a waste for people to play thru the original game then maybe you picked the wrong MMO. There is a reason why FF14 is still around even after their catastrophe in 1.0.
That being said the older content is amazing and even alot of the side quest are really good. Imo buying the game only for the expansion is a waste of money.
[QUOTE=BioDio;3056640]Why do you guys have that mentality?

The first step is not any harder than when you started the game. Its quite the opposite, they are doing what it takes to make long term players and they dont want players who want to jump on the next expansion hype. You know as well as everyone else they have to play other classes to play the new ones effectively anyway. I think everyone needs to look at the big picture.
Lathander81, you make some very good points, and what you said is very well thought out compared to some others, I've been in since ver 1.0 and I've seen how hard yoshi p and his team has worked on the game, as a whole I've been upset with SE these last few years and I've been playing their games for over 25 years and I have almost all of squares game and a good bit of the games enix has made to. This is turning into a great game and I understand people need to build up other classes, that's why I said maybe lock the New jobs till maybe lol 50, and the expansion, but not the whole story though.
I think putting the jobs behind the wall was a good thing honestly. I kind of wish they had more requiremnts. I definitely think having GLD to 30 should have been a requirement for unlocking drk.
And as it seems other people here see it the same way as me, now I'm not saying open up all of the game before the story is finished, the end story of ver 2 is great and some of the best work squares done in along time IMO, but players should be able to talk about what the see as problems, which is what I did and others have too, keep in mind I played ff11 and loved the story but the game was a pain in the but to get anything done if you weren't a pld or whm. In the end their is still people who play who think the job lock is a bad idea, is their opinion any less than yours? I do want to thank you for speaking your views too, like I said you make some very valid points.
Too bad you can return software, there is no return policy, so u spent your money to hurt your self, sooo sad, boo hoo
Wow aren't you nice, but truth be told I get a return for it becuase I preordered it...... So sad.
I dont really get the mentality for locking new jobs behind story. I dont mind doing the old content before i get to heavensward, atleast let me use the job im most interested in... Maybe move the job trainers to Mor Dhona and put level 30 (or 50) requirement for those jobs...
