New airships only automatic retainer ventures

Am I the only one hugely disappointed in the way this feature turned out.
I feel like they have totally missed the point in what the players like about airships in FF games.

I don't need a new proxy for retainer ventures. I don't need another cutscene to watch. I want to BE ON the airship dammit!

I am also kinda sad on how the airship turned out.
But, if we could actually fly it and explore my guess is that it would have a limit on how many could do so at one time.
And my guess is that the most Elite crew of a FC would be the ones to indirecly claim that ship as their own personal right, as they are the most capable people to do so. Which would leave the rest of the FC standing there.

I have to agree. WIth flying in the game, there's no reason you shouldnt be able to board an airship and fly. Other games do it... why not this one?

Nope that's the core concept of airships. If you look around they have commented more on it that in future patches the concept will be expanded. While yes it's current core concept is sending out on missions that return after x time there are plans to allow one to ride on airship and to have said airship take you to unlocked location. So don't get worked up if you think this is all it is. The concepts they would want to add later would most likely be an "end game' like concept to airships so even if they tried to add it now it would be a while before people actually reached it.

Also it's only like ventures in the concept that you send someone out and they return after a set amount of time. What makes these highly different from ventures is the ability to follow a route and find new locations and plan new routes based on locations found, so there will definitely be a micromanaging aspect to figure out the most lucrative routes.

Yeah, pretty disappointing. Not at all surprising, considering pretty much the exact same sort of outcome as the whole chocobo training "feature" which was hyped but turned out to be exactly nothing but a way to force us to grow vegetables and watch cut scenes. But yeah. The real question is why Square feels the need to hype up these features in such a way that they suggest there will be something more to it, something with actual depth instead of the item vending machine we are going to get. Feels disingenuous.

About now, the first white knight is scheduled to show up and tell us to wait for the system to get patched before we make a judgement.

Not that I'm optimistic about it, but didn't they mention that the actual traveling on personal ships part will come at a later part? IIRC they vaguely described it to be like MH4's expeditions (randomly generated maps that the game creates when you start the adventure).

you can complain if they had told us that it will come from the start, but the have always said that the airship we can board will not come to the release but at later date. there it's complain for complain nothing more. other point, if you had read the patch note you will have seen that the airship need to rank up for be able to explore deeper part of the sky sea... we have something to do while waiting for the airship venture for us.

Im sure it will get patched in at some point, probably with the missing egi's.

Nothing in what they explained brought me to believe it'd be anything different.
Why were you expecting something other than a FC venture system?

It starts out basically the same as the garrison missions that World of Warcraft has been doing for the past year, but will be expanded on so that we actually get to travel at some later point in the expansion. While I'm not looking forward to the initial concept, I like the idea that SE might slap Blizzard in the face with a "this is how you do it properly" sometime around 3.1 or 3.2. Take your competitor's idea and make it much better... that's basically what made WoW money in the first place.

I'll reserve judgement I guess. Lots of other content to do anyway. I just don't expect much at this point. Maybe something amazing will happen. But i wont be surprised if that 3.1 airship patch gets...delayed.

A feature locked behind FC housing should be neither extensive nor elaborate. Your FC (if you have a house) gets to work toward something small and nifty as a group.

this would be an issue if they had said "all" airship content was coming at release, but they have said far in advance and multiple times that the airship system will be expanded upon on a patch by patch basis. First patch (3.0) build rank and explore/ think next is some kinda gathering system implementation then after that we get to board and potentially find new land masses to explore and find unique nodes mobs elites etc on.

To lazy to look it up but im sure someone ill post one of the airship interviews at some point :P mostly just wanted to say i too feel like "that game" has failed to deliver on alot of what was promised but i don't think its fair to bring their failures against this dev team.

Umm that's just the 1st part of many to come out for this.. Or have you need been reading up on the other updates for 3.1 and 3.2? In 3.1 you will use them to fly to open world raids and fight with other to kill big boss and fight over them with other guides/groups. They will also be used in the masiv pvp maps l8tre down the line if SE keeps to there timeline. But then again they said the same about open would pprimels 2 years ago and there still not here.

But over all you can't ask SE to give you 100% of something right out the gate when you will alrdy have 100other things to do to pass the time for 4/6 weeks o.o
