Windows/Steam users
"Users who have registered their early access codes and are currently playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will have their game client updated automatically as we near early access and will not need to download a separate client."

Edit: Understanding what Dx11 is please glance over:

They have explicitly stated that the DX11 client will be an entirely separate download a few times, so unless stated otherwise more recently I would assume you have to download the new client.
while i don't doubt you that it was said, a dx11 "client" should just be a small-ish file that contains settings for windows to use dx11 with the game client.
It honestly should be so small that it would be included in all windows versions of the game need it or not
An entirely separate game client to use it doesn't even make sense.
The client is separate, but both clients use the same game data, you don't need to redownload the entire game.
The question is probably the definition of 'client'.
Is it just a separate .exe file? Like ffxiv.exe vs. ffxiv_dx11.exe? In that case the download will most likely be included no matter what (since we're talking a few megabytes in a game that's already in the dual digits of gigabytes), and the launcher will point to whichever one you want.
Considering they've mentioned they won't be including any higher resolution textures, almost all of dx11 enhancements are done by your graphics card using existing assets. Game files don't regularly need their own versions to accomplish this.
So whe early accese starts do we go to the mog station and download the DX11 client ? Or will the DX11 client go live after early accsess ?
This doesn't answer every question but it might answer a few: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...for_beginners/
Sort of. There will likely be some new shader files to go with the new client. Still won't likely amount to much size though so I'm expecting it'll just be included with the patch that'll drop before early access starts. Maybe a toggle in the launcher to put you into the new client.

DirectX 11 Client Distribution
Coinciding with the launch of Heavensward, we will be releasing the DirectX 11 client. Those of you who are already playing the Windows version, and using graphics cards that support DirectX 11, will be able to download this client to play in a DirectX 11 environment. The depth expression is remarkably different. The amount of strain placed on your processor will be lighter, so please check out the DirectX 11 version if your machine supports it. The client can be downloaded for free.
Greetings,
Once early access starts, your current Windows and Steam client will be updated to include an option to switch to DirectX 11 in the launcher's "Config" settings!
So it will be that simple then! Just like the benchmark. Thanks!
Better than what I thought. From the sounds of things I thought we were going to have to download a completely separate launcher. Looking forward to seeing a beautiful Eorzea!
Ya i thought it be like a new launcher with it own game files lmao :) thank god it's that simple.
They really did make it sound like it was other launcher/game file.
