Question for you crafters

Pardon me if this is the wrong section but I have a question for you crafters.
I hate a lot of MB prices so if I really need something I'll ask someone to make me better gear.
Now, my question is, if you make someone gear with mats they provided would you prefer expensive items for a tip or just a clump of gil?

This answer will obviously differ from person to person but for me a tip is a tip, I actually like crafting so the fact to you're paying me to do something i like is good enough, whatever it may be.

I'd say Gil.
Crafting makes your inventory a mess, full of materials. So the less items I have on me, the better.

Ahh, I usually give crafting materials like shards/chrystals/clusters since I don't use them.

I craft for free to my Fc people as long as they give me all mats. For random people I charge depending on what they want me to make. Shall we say they want a platinum ring (500k) on market, if you give me the mats I'll charge 50k or 100k. Gotta make some money some how I didn't spend millions overmelding materias and crafting my gear for everyone to have things for free lol

Well, crystals et al. are special case since they don't really clutter up your inventory, having spaces reserved just for them.

Those are ok since they don't take inventory space ^^

I don't charge any tips for crafting when people ask me, still most of them tip me small amounts voluntarily, I've had some offer me mats and I'll gladly take those too.. But which of the two is preferred, I'd say gil since it's easier to hold on to, no organizing necessary.

Shard/crystals/clusters are nice too but you may be offering something to a crafter that's completely unnecessary where as gil always has value.. I so rarely use lightning element (WVR) that it's mostly just sitting on full stack, same with fire. If I have the inventory space I'll gladly take it, but given a choice, I'd much prefer a wind or ice (depends on the person) then given another choice, gil over everything else ;)

Well, even if you, personally, don't use Lightning element, that doesn't mean the shards/crystals/clusters are worthless to you. After all, you can sell them on the Marketboards, and they don't take up any inventory space!

for me it difers depending on 2 major things time of a patch and how wealthy is the customer.

If someone wants a item crafted just when a new patch hit and they say they dont have much gill or something down that line i often tell them to get me X amount of philo/myth/soldiery items depending on the patch or some things like FC/BC demis sometimes i accept fish or shards as payment as well it all depends on the person that wants someting crafted.

No, they're not worthless, I should reiterate.

I just try to keep a full stock of shards and crystals (clusters... I wish) so sometimes when people trade me a few hundred shards, if it's not one I actively use I simply can't accept it without having to move some of it around to a retainer or fc chest.

Of course crystals never useless regardless the type, im allways welcome any kind of them, im run of them so often, and have to keep farming them. But really i would prefer any mid-cost/high materials to produce more gods. Gil is welcomed too but with the inflation/fluctuation of prices its not that usefull.

So in general you will feel by yourself what you like most rather than base on other views.
