Would you like to have a different character for each of your jobs?

So, since aura is basicly right in front of the door, i would like to ask you if you would like to have the ability to create a new character for each of your jobs? For example, your bard is a female miqote, but when you equip your monk gear then you are a female Aura.

I know its already sorta possible by just creating a bloody new character and level them up from 0-50 again, but for me thats a huge wall and i would have to farm every single piece of gear again and on top of it the pvp grind, wich is kinda to much.

Thats why i would totally like such a feature.

Guys, i think you might missed my point a bit. I am talking about having all jobs available for one character as it is now, but for visual pleasure allowing to switch the race for different jobs if the player likes too (Without relogging or level up everything to 50 again). Should probably have said it more clearly.^^

This is probably never going to happen since it's a pay feature which requires more than just a model swap.

Even if it were within the realm of possibility, you wouldn't be playing a single character anymore.

Like in all the non-MMO final fantasy games, you play a party, but you primarily play just one character in all of them. FF6 is the only exception because it has the largest playable character cast and for all intents everyone can learn everything. FF5 had the job system that FFX-2 and FFXIV's job system works on. So by design no, it's not within the spirit of the game to do that.

Most other MMO's lock you into a race/job/class because they are following the Dungeons and Dragons rulesets that strictly say that you are only ever as good as your worst class, so for all intents, they limit you to one per character. The irony is that the Pen and Paper D&D games have adopted back mechanics that MMORPG's are better known for. Other games that don't have classes, wound up retroactively creating classes to try and appeal to more hardcore players. "Casual" players don't like being locked into classes, because they don't want to grind a new character if they choose poorly or get bored of the class they picked.

An alternative to this would perhaps be having a consumable item "glamor" a NPC or player character's appearance (since the concept actually exists in the game) as part of a larger storyline element. One "monster" I really liked from Mabinogi was the "doppelganger" final boss from one of the patches, because it copies YOU and is so extra hard if you spent a lot of time leveling.

I would love that but that would make issues for the names I guess we would see much more variety for the races played thanks to that.

You can already do it by creating a new character you know ^^. Otherwise to answer your question: No and I don't see a point in doing so but I won't criticize you or anyone wishing for this. I find that doing this would destroy the purpose of creating your character plus I would feel kinda schizophrenic if my character was able to do this. ^^;

Actually I prefer having only one character that can be everything. Id rather not pay for extra characters or anything, and I like the convenience of having everything on one character/account.

I prefer 1 character for all jobs tbh one of my biggest gripes with games like WoW was having to relog everytime I wanted to play a different class >.>

Being able to play one character and be everything is a major selling point of this game sooo...I don't see them messing with it.

I do. I actually prefer the more structured system of having one class per character and wish that FF14 had adopted that model. I actually really enjoy making alts, using different races/genders for each class I play. It's a shame that it's really not worth doing that in this game, part of me wishes that it were like Firefall, as Firefall allows you to re-customize your character (including gender) anywhere, anytime, for free. I really wish every MMO adopted that model tbh.

I prefer the way it is now. Having all jobs available to a single character.

It's a lot more realistic too. I'm pretty sure that all most all of you have had to go though an irl job change and had learn a whole new set of skills. (Ex. A mechanic loses his job and finds work as a pizza maker or whatever. )

I actually tried to give each job to a different character, when I first started this game. But I gave up on it, when I realized how boring and tedious it was to play through the story multiple times, re-unlocking dungeons, doing the same quests/guildhests, going back and forth across Eorzea, and everything else. I tried playing with ten at first, but then it dropped to seven, and then to three. This game seems unforgiving for having multiple characters, especially if there's an armory bonus for having more than one class on a single character. Three seems to work out the best for me: three battle classes per character (who will each get a new job in Heavensward), three DoH, and one DoL.

Nope. Happy just the way I am. :)

I don't change races when I get a new job irl. I'm pretty sure most people don't. That's just ridiculous.

Are you really comparing a fantasy game with real life? Do you slay monsters in real life? Do you stay afk all day and night long in your town? Do you have 11 different jobs at the same time?

No, I love the armoury not only cause I can try everything, choose what I like and switch easily but because I feel my character as an expression of myself. I wouldn't do other characters. He is me. So I wouldn't do any other character to match other jobs.

I love the idea of having one individual who is a master of all things! Makes me feel awesome to know I'm a Roe who can forge a sword, mine ore, shoot a bow, magically heal injuries, summon monsters, craft a bracelet, deliver mail, etc, etc, etc.

Even if it meant being able to experience what it's like to live as a multitude of different characters, I think I'd still prefer to be a single character who is a jack of all trades, master of all!

And so do i. I am not going to change my character to be a Aura in hw because i do like it to much to change it and as i said i dont like to start an additional character all over again.
Thats why i did ask the question. Gives the option to have a more varity of characters while still having the one main character if the player likes to and it would avoid to level up everything again. If he dont like it, he would be fine by not using that feature.

The jobs are parts of the character.
If you lose your job and find a new job, do you change your gender and race? Or will it be only a new hairstyle and new clothes?

You don't switch to another character while changing the job, you only switch the weapon/tool in the hand

now serious, I think that being able of change race as one pleases would be cool but it could be weird too

Edit: Change your character race/gender is weird, but swapping with another character when you change your job could be less weird
An character for each job could be a too much, but an extra character per main character could be doable and nice

Mechanically I think the micromanaging to change race appearance with a job change would be horrendous. Particularly since you'd have to coordinate glamors for several different races on one character and heaven forbid if you want to use racial starter gear in each glamour! Inventory management is awful enough without grabbing every race/sex starter gear.

Besides in order to actively play multiple roles for end game content, having an alt helps with that.

Oh is that what you meant? Then I say hell yes, I'd be fine with paying money to unlock it but without paying money for a fantasia every time.

It won't happen because then each and every single character in eorzae would require 5 times more data than they currently do as one model, plus PS3 limitations an all.

Not really, there would only be more datas stocked on the server, but as much send between server and computers, for now the server gives the char name, race, model, gear with the dyes and glamour. If you add that it will still just send the number for the race used and the model used right now, not the one you don't use.

I can see your point of view and I'm up for features but it still feels a bit over the top, nothing really bad just.. I would find it a bit weird to interact with someone that changes so much so quickly. It's just me anyway, if SE was to make it happen I wouldn't be against it.

The one thing I miss from WoW is being able to use items to alter my look. Pirate human, undead, many many more. I acually collected them and hardly played as my created character. I would love for FFXIV to add some things like this. But to the OP no I would not want my character to change for every job, my character is her and her alone even if there was illusions to make her different.

No, I rather stick to what I have. My friends are different jobs with different races so I use them for my party fulfillment.

i wouldn't mine being able to save different hair color/styles as part of gearsets, but race/sex i have no interest in.
