But why? (glamour nonsense)

Honestly I'm making this thread because it just makes very little sense some of the glamour restrictions in this game.

I've accepted that we can't glamour cross class (though lets be real it makes no sense.) The official reason, last I read, was it would confuse new players. Obviously that doesn't make sense because tanks can already wear robes and witch's hats (the halloween even alone lets them glamour as full on witches) so I don't see how that, coupled with bunny ear girls in bikinis or men in leopard print bathing suits is less confusing.

But my real question... Why can't I put on a hat AND glasses. Like come on. I get that its all classified as head piece but would it be too hard to add like a glamour specific slot that wont add to stats but let a man out on glasses and a hat?

I mainly play to get glamours. Like thats my jam. Anywho, love the game I just needed to vent lol. Any other glamour system nonsense y'all hate?

That there're 5 ranks of glamour prism that all require the exact same amount of gil to purchase, are all learned from the same item at the same time(per profession), and require exact same materials (within their respective profession), making the different ranks completely pointless

Gating it behind level 50 is my biggest glamour system pet peeve.

That wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact you'd have merchants fighting over 7 types of prisms to sell. Instead of 7 types of prisms with 5 levels each (35 different prisms), a mere 7 would flood the market and make them unpractical to make and sell for profit.

Yes and it would also increase every characters' data by quite a bit. An empty slot in a database contains just as much data (even though it is junk) as a full slot.

I just want to glamour whatever I'm wearing into a hooded robe. They won't let me be a Sith though.

Try the Sugarloaf hats. They have optional glasses attached.

This, definitely, as well as gating dyes behind a level 15 quest. This was particularly annoying for the longest time for me, and was one of the main reasons I ended up spending more time grinding and rerunning dungeons instead of just doing the MSQ. Why would I want to even appear in the MSQ cutscenes if I'm going to have to wear whatever mismatched clothes happen to be the best at the time? (Looking at you in particular "coliseum" gear for mages.)

That's what happens when even the devs thinks everyone is magically 50 when they start the game.

Jet Black and Pure White dyes... I have received 2 Jet Blacks, after spending 1000's of ventures, and I wish they would just give us an obtainable means to acquire them already. Getting these has become beyond frustrating.

My biggest annoyance with glamour is of course the restrictions. Just remove them already.

Oh, come on, the Coliseum sets are one of the best! =o ...ok, maybe not so much, and the style is not for everyone. But they're definitely the first interesting ones after all the drab numbers we endure for 44 levels.

In any case, yes. No cross-class glamours (one way anyhow...because it works perfectly well the other way around of course) is absolutely stupid in a game where you can level up all classes to cap on one character. And so many different glamours, in so many different grades, when all the ingredients are the same for them is also just as stupid. Couldn't agree more with those.

I agree class restrictions on glamour is stupid. Someone should necro the original post about this.

Amen to that. Probably my biggest pet peeve of them all. They could have saved themselves a lot of time and us a lot of trouble by making a single glamor prism per class which works universally on all items.

Just imagine how many new ones they'll have to add when Heavensward arrives and we get item levels up to 200?

I wan't all gear are dyeable and can have more than 1 dye.

i strongly believe the class restriction on glamours is mostly ineffect to prevent whm's from glamouring PLD or DPS, vice versa, etc, raid gear/AF/tomes/primal stuff. That alone is a good reason to enable a class restriction.

Acolyte, foestriker, and the sets from Brayflox normal are drab?

I still don't understand why the Hempen Tunic is locked to Disciple of War when it has absolutely ZERO stats added to it that would justify making it for DoW in the first place….its statless…..completely statless.

Some of the class specific ones bother me. Any DoW class can for example wear the Infantry Thighboots from brayflox and can therfoe glamour them. Then you have the Saurian Boots of Striking, which are the exact same exept dyeable, but I can only use them as glamors on my mnk/nin. If they are going to limit so much stuff to classes, I want to see at least a little more variety in the stuff that can be glamoured to all classes. I've created and image for my character that I want more consistantacross all my classes.

On the opposite end, I've got more dye than I'll ever have any use for, but people having to trade me their non bonded gear to dye is too clunky. I wish they would add a "request dye" option similar to the "request meld" one.

Would be so happy if it was allowed to glamour Weaver's chestpiece for a combat class. (and ofc other variations)

I think they said that it was less that it would "confuse" new players and more that it doesn't keep with the vision they have for the game.
Which is fine by me. It's THEIR vision.

SE our chocobos don't have restrictions on barding once they get it!!! my rank 20 chocobo can wear a drg armor, wmh hat and tank legs!!!

We adventures should be able to wear them at the same time too!!!

In a more serious comment, and to "don't ruin the lore" ok, maybe keep AF armor restricted, but let everything else unrestricted and please implement SOMETHING that lets my poetics BLM can look different than my SMN

I still wish there were separate slots, like smaller slots next to your main gear slots, where you can simple put your glamour item in there instead of having to glamour it to a specific item, and you can freely switch your gear while keeping the glamour of the item in the glamour slot.

I mean, if they still wanted to have it done by DoH, just make it like whatever item you want to be able to put in the glamour slot, it has to be glamoured(permanently) with a prism by a DoH or it would say when you tried to add it to the slot "Item has not yet been glamoured", or something like that. That way DoH is still needed to glamour an item, and you still have freedom and ease to switch which items you want to use as glamour without having to de-glamour it all the time. For example, since people starting at lvl. 50 with Darklight gear slowly make their way to FCoB gear, will want to glamour an item without having to attach and un-attach it to every new weapon they get etc.

Glamour in this game is implemented poorly.

Shared gear is one of the things that doesn't work well with it.
Tanks share PvE gear, so if you want to glamour the i100/i110 PvP gear for PLD, for instance, you're fine when playing PLD, but SOL when playing WAR.

The only thing I don't like about the system, is that you can't really use armor that takes up two slots. I know they kind of stopped making gear like that. But I would love to wear the old school mage Darklight gear, it looked badass.

As for the class/job restrictions, I wish they'd just left it that you couldn't glamour another job's AF gear, but everything else is fair game. Well, maybe include the i90 (former myth) gear as well, since it's appearance seems to be just AF gear with some palate swapping. But it should be a rule set on specific pieces of gear and only where it makes sense rather than the broadly applied rule of glamouring only what you can equip. Gear should be able to identify which classes/jobs can equip it, and in a separate list, which classes/jobs can wear its glamour appearance. Allow those lists to match where reasonable but also be different where that's more reasonable.

My other pet peeve is the inability to readily glamour multi-slot equipment. It's one of the big reasons why I wish they'd gone with a system of equipment slots and glamour slots rather than of adding the glamour appearance to the equipped gear itself.

In theory, we can petition SE to remove restrictions on individual items such as this. In practice, I don't believe any such request has ever been approved.

SE games have a very strong graphical identity, you can see any number of FF game new or old, never seen or not and be like "that's a FF game". Or at least I feel this way, the identity is not just in the graphical presentation either - as we all recognize carry through ideas even if they're completely unrelated stories.

That visual aspect was most likely not by accident :P. I suppose you can argue "this is clearly a different genre" but some people may not care (personally prefer a well groomed image over whatever, snowman bikini still makes me frown a little - this is FF not One Piece XD). In a normal FF game I expect each character, job, class, or even zone has a sort of reasoning to it with maturity yet an 'onze' of youthful playfulness, even if it isn't necessarily full on realism it still has an extreme level of polish that is not willynilly - "because I can".

Of course in terms of lore, glamour is just an illusion and it makes a bit of sense to be able to make anything be anything as just an illusion. It's not real, so why would there be the restriction of real items - yeah? Not that I say that with desire, lol - I do admit liking structure. Imo, I should also be able to dispel it.. hehe lol. I want to run around town with that Slyph de-glamouring powder XD. I'll blame it on the Dragoon when a sparkling bomb is dropped at the start of each dungeon.. :P

I feel like the case by case unlocking works alright, so they can control the image within reason - though I'd do a relic level of grinding (pre-nerf) to unlock a lore'd in (personal) toggle to see through the glamour of bikini knights. . lol. At that point they might as well remove restriction from the system.

This is because the glamour system is currently tied to the equipment system very, very closely. It's one of those things that's incredibly hard to change after the fact.
There's no motivation on their part to change it since, again, there are some pieces of armor and clothing that are just not designed to work together.

Anyone who doesn't feel the dumbness in that...no, not the reasoning itself, but in the way it's implemented, needs a dose of common sense. If it was well-rounded, two-way, and really general - it wouldn't be dumb. I want to wear my blacksmith slops on my monk. Best pants in the game, never going to see the light of day between the introduction of artisan gear and whenever HW crafter's AF2 comes out, where it might be glamoured. Such a shame.

I mean, I think that at least crafter/gatherer AF gear should be glamourable. It's got such nice models that are going to waste because people will pick up whatever cross-class crafting gear they can so they don't murder their armory chest. Like me. Oh god, 8 sets...

While I do generally sympathize with this argument... I would glamor my WHM AF if I could simply so people can see "there's the WHM!" for AoE heals and such...

It's a bit hypocritical when tanks can wear bikinis but twelve forbid a mage wear even leather or chainmail.

But IDC that much about it. What I would really like is the ability to wear glasses with other headgear.
