my idea for a new mage class/job w/e u ppl call it

dark mage and light mage or umbral and astral mage. now you may say its unoriginal and what not but i got this idea playing 11. reason? i dont remember the last time i was on whm where i actually needed to use divine magic like banish. It was there but Paladins used it way more than whm. ALSO BLM in 11 dark spells were what...sleep, bio, blind... nothing fancy about these spells. in essence 2 magic schools that were compeltely untapped. So i thought about 2 mage classes that actually revolved around this concept of light and dark, and i was even thinking of just making this one class but i havent come up with a name. so for the sake of making it easier im separating the two so people dont get confused i guess.

the weapon of choice would be some kind of magical orb. like aion where it kinda jsut floats there when its drawn.


light mage would focus on holy-divine magic obviously. bieng naturaly strong against undead. the abilities i came up with some dont ahve names...so w/e

light prison: the effects of this prison and what it does is affected by the sun. if the sun is up this prison would magnify light causing burning damage and slow its movement. During night time this ability would simply hinder movement.

illusion: bending light to make illusions. this coudl be used to take hate from someone and place it upon the tank. like that archer grabbed hate you cast illusion mob now thinks that tank is the archer.

unnamed: an ability that causes pacification

flash: stuns and blind the enemy, but if the enemy is blind another flash cant stun it.

enlight: buffs party members weapons to deal light damage

healing ward: creates a bubble of light in which party members can be healed. mage cannot move and drains MP until cancelled. potency determined by night/day.

Lure: IRL bugs are attracted to light...they kepe smacking into my window at night. so i thought this coudl be a way to have a puller but the light that lures leads to the tank so the magge doesnt become the first one it attacks. (not my favorite ability but that first hit from raptors hurts)

Haste: nuff said...

reflect: think shock spikes but for magic attacks...(im looking at you FLOATING EYES)

unnamed: picture that one move from fable 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktdVPrayB1g its in the first 20 seconds of the vid. im not sure if this one should be AOE or one target. ofc i woudlnt expect it to be super powerful like in the vid either. also affected by night/day time.

Azeyma's justice: a ghost image of a warrior pops up and does a combo on the target. dealing burning damage. read up on azeyma and ull understand why i picked it.

unnamed: some kind of forcefield ability that drains MP when damaged. so if monster attacks party member inside this bubble ur MP will take a dive instead of HP.




on to dark mage

Dark prison: effects affected by moon. causing poison damage and slowed movement.

unnamed illusion: like in ffxi where the mob would be intimidated but you cast it on a party member, monster will be "frozen with fear" on occasion

rage: causes monsters attack to increase and bringing down its defence

unnamed ward: gives party members in the ward TP regen at the cost of your HP draining. (affected by night time)

endark: gives party members weapons dark damage (good agaisnt light enemies obviously, but i wanted this added simply because also...in 11...i cant remember what mobs other than light elementals were "light" monsters. theres undead mobs but no "light" mobs that i can remember. if there were please let me know XD)

distract: causes the monster to chase a shadow away from the party. once shadow wears off monster returns to territory

slow: and i want the fart version just to get back at dodos farting in my face all the damn time

unnamed: a stoneskin for magic damage

unnamed: i want skele arms to come out the ground and what not to claw at the mob or something equaly darkish (affected by night time)

Rhalgr's revenge (or something that sounds dark related): another ghost warrior that deals a bleeding condition.

unnamed: vampire spikes or something: mob hits u spikes steal HP and gives it to you, or whoever you cast it on.

unnamed: barbed vines wrap around mob causing bleeding damage



Now you may or may not have noticed that i didnt simply make them opposites. i actually changed what the dark and light abilities did, which i think adds to the fun i think O.o i dont think alot of people will like it and its still in its infancy as im sure theres more things i could come up with to make it more unique and interesting.

Not to be rude, but i skimmed the whole page after i read 'light mage'

if you want people to take your suggestions seriously, use bolds, italics, and points properly so it doesn't look half-assed or something you just typed 10mins ago. It needs to looks interesting to keep people's interest in reading something that long.

this is literally thaumaturge. some spells u mentioned thm already has sort of but some would def be right up thm alley.

yea they would be thm related...but thm doesnt hav them right now. i know there were a couple thm spells there though like slow. not sure what else. as for having written it 10 minutes ago...thats exactly what i did since my original file with the info got deleted by accident X.x and if you dont wanna read it it dont bug me at all XD

First off WHM and BLM are classic FF names so I woudn't go down the 'Light/Dark' Mage road. I agree that WHM would be better off with some heavier offensive Astral Magic and the Healing Ward is a good idea, but a few of your suggestions (Azeyma's justice, Skele arms attack. etc) tread heavily into SMN territory.

I'd suggest you play/study more of the FF series (esp I, III, IV, V, IX, and Tactics) and then come back and try this again.

TLDR; A simple skim is all it took to tell you really don't have and understanding of Final Fantasy History.
that's not meant to be an insult. When proposing Idea's to a niche group like FF players it may be helpful to research
past games and the mechanics and terms in them.

i did play tactics, and i also played ff8. and i didnt imagine them bieng summons :p i had more in mind as away for the mage to do physical damage being 100% devoted to magical damage.

i wasnt looking at the FF series, i was looking at ff14 specificly. ^.^ as for this being a cheesy idea? yea it is a cheesy idea :p but i wanted to try something DIFFERENT form the same old FF box. so far most of the feedback ive recieved is negative which is fine with me :) atleast im getting feedback at all XD the point and aim im trying to get across is that FF needs something NEW. EVERY ff game had something in particular that made it unique and special. since the only other ff games i got to play were 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13 i know 8 had the junction system, and in 10 your summons didnt dissapear after one attack.

*edit and 13 had eidolonns which were timed and i never got very far in 12 sadly.

I like the ideas.

Needs a weaver to make the post look high quality but other than that all pretty funky.

I'm not sure the game operates with 'light' and 'dark' elements at the moment though, I think it's usually elements like wind, fire water etc., though I'm sure they could impliment them.

Dark Mage sounds much like a buffed up Thaumaturge, so if S.E decide that 1 class -> multiple jobs instead of the current 1 class -> 1 job they're doing now, a dark mage could very well be introduced in some way or another.

Light Mage, I wouldn't take an ability that's specified by time of day/weather conditions as it's too random and sometimes daytime just seems to fly by.

They both look like support types though, Dark Mage is a debuffer for enemies and Light Mage is a buffer for allies. FFXIV doesn't really have any 'proper' support types yet so they'd certainly have their niche somewhere.

If anything it'd be better to associate it as a job. For instance Paladins are going to be made from Gladiators, so they'll have all the Gladiator abilities plus some shiny extras.

So it wouldn't be too far off to say Dark Mage would be made from Thaumaturge, have the THM's abilities plus the ones you listed.

Light Mage however would be slightly more difficult to fit into the lore with Conjurer. Perhaps when they add a new magic class something like a Light Mage could fit in more comfortably.
