Returning player - Questions

So I decided to come back for the expansion. Going to try the new classes out...

Then I found out... you have to have storyline done.


Started storyline and then ran into. King Moogle Hard mode.... really. I have to do hard modes to play the new classes..

I hate pugs, my guild is gone, not on the class I even want to play (on PLD atm)


(I Main tanked up to T5 of coil back in the day when people could barely beat titan so im not bad)


After King Moogle... is there any other 8 man hard modes required ? If there are many.. ill most likely pass and head on over into a diff MMO as I hate pugging just to unlock content to play a new expansion class.

Also.. how hard is the King to pug ?

Don't worry the hard modes are a joke right now, or atleast I found. You got the King, Ramuh, Leviathan and Shiva If I remember right. They were really easy don't let the "hard" mode fool you. I don't think I spent more than 10 minutes in any of them, or it went so fast it felt like it, and it was all with PUG groups.

At level 50 the "Hard Mode" primals are basically story mode primals. But yeah, there are other 8-man trials after Mog.

Leviathan HM, Ramuh HM, Shiva HM, Chrysalis, Steps of Faith.

All 8-man trials, and all required by the story.

Also all doable in the duty finder.

None of the duties that you need to do in story are hard at all. People pug them all the time.

It's not like trying to down Titan HM back in the day or something... Players go into them via the Trial Roulette and usually don't have much problems, and even if you do, it's easy enough to get through it even with mistakes.

Honestly...what were you expecting? Have the expansion unlocked without doing the story? You played to 50, you know there are trials and dungeons in it.

Get a new fc if you don't want to pug. You'll have new trials and dungeons in Heavensward as well to do, so keep that in mind. This IS an mmo, you will need to play with others.

And yeah, all the required trials/dungeons are easy to run through. Don't expect that to carry over to the expansion, however.

There's been nerfs to that content over time, as well as better gear being released. It's a breeze to DF, you shouldn't let that and the fact that your current FC is dead discourage you from getting it done.

As above, HM has become the new story mode. You should be able to do it in DF fairly easily. Echo buff helps if you struggle too.

Although everyone is right that all the hard modes right now are really silly (keep in mind that after Titan, every storyline primals are "Hard Mode" and there is no normal mode.) It will likely be the same in Heavensward.

Just going to go ahead and chime in with the rest; when I came back, I found out about having to do the same content. I was nervous as heck, thinking of Titan HM from back in the day, and I was watching videos and what not, only to get in there, alert everyone I was new but watched a video, and every time they were like "lol, don't worry, it's a cake walk", and they were right. No wipes, no frustrations, no rage quits. Well, except for steps of faith, but I heard they've nerfed that one now, and it's the last trial.

The Chrysalis might be the hardest one in the list now... Steps of Faith was indeed nerfed to the ground, its at least a 40% easer in comparison to pre-nerf. You can down it with only landing a dragon killer :|

Well, that's good to hear that Hard mode is no longer hard.. wel. not sure its a good thing over all but at least for getting through the story.

I remember watching pugs in zone chat rage over hard modes at eachother.

as for joining a FC.. I don't like joining random FC's... though I did last night and its kinda quiet in chat.. I like to do my research and join one that fits my gaming wants and schedule. So I have 2 weeks of playtime before expansion comes out (Vacation) and its kinda a downer to start the story first day back and see hard modes... which.. well back in the Day.. Titan was actually hard.

So seeing as its not that bad.. ill give it a go..
To those what did you expect to have to complete story... well, after spending the last 10-20 quests of run here fetch this fetch that, with no real content and just filler.. then see (Hard Mode) its like seriously.. come on. People who knew the old titan would understand that if Old Titan + hard Mode = wtf for a storyline quest to get into the expansion.

The hard mode tag denotes that it's an 8 player primal instance more than anything. I can see your trepidation, I experienced Titan's fury back in the Darklight days, but with the inflated ilvls and echo buffs, these fights don't prove much of an obstacle anymore. It's to encourage players who are in a situation much like yourself to easily clear this content and not be roadblocked going into an expansion you've paid for. The quality of the story also improves further down the line, and should be another incentive to keep pushing you along. Welcome back, and good luck in your travels.

This is a MMO so if your FC is dead and they stopped playing find new friends and a FC that you may feel like home. That answer of going to a different MMO is the same shit. You wont know anyone so... why not continue here and find new friends if you like this game?

Btw, besides primal trials you will have a lot dungeons to do too, not that hard as well.
