Warrior 100% Parry skill + Awareness

New ability: Raw Intuition
This is an ability that will guarantee a parry when receiving an attack from the front. However, when you are attacked from other angles, the attacks will deal critical damage. While there is somewhat of a risk, it’s a powerful ability when used properly.

Awareness:
Nullifies chance of suffering critical damage.

Would be a good combo, but at the same time... mobs shouldn't be facing anywhere but in front of you.

I bet it will nullify Awareness because otherwise it'd just be too easy.

I think what he is saying is activate both abilities then intentionally turn your character to the side.... It will nullify the attacks and you take no damage. Why parry an attack if you can take advantage of recieving no damage from crits!

Awareness doesn't negate damage, though. It just negates crits. So if you turn to the side, you won't get the auto parry and you'll take normal damage. Awareness + Raw Intuition wouldn't actually be that powerful, it would just prevent the side effect if mobs attack you from the side... but they shouldn't be doing that in the first place. The only mobs that are usually out of place are caster mobs, and you can't Parry magic attacks regardless. If you can't position mobs correctly, then this combo would be useful - otherwise... I guess it will help prevent Parrying crits and smooth out the damage even more. I imagine Vengeance + Raw Intuition + Bloodbath + Awareness would be really good, max mitigation plus self healing from the reflected damage and OP spam.

Only time you should be getting hit form the side is in large pulls where mobs can't all fit in front of you. Since that happens extremely frequently this should be good.

Did the LL give you the impression that the new ability last just 1 attack (like Perfect Dodge) or that persists until the buff wears off?

You know it would have been easier if we could just cross class Keen Flurry from Lancer but w/e. I just hope its not a one-use skill and is longer like Bulwark. I also highly doubt that Awareness' effect will be canceled out as no cd in the game negates the other's effect when stacked. It's not as op as ppl think since you still take damage.

it will be mostly like this imo... definitely not a dungeon-friendly skill since when you tank more than 3 mobs you will likely get surrounded and get attacked from all sides. It seems like another tank cooldown to handle boss crunches but if we're talking about magic damage then it's total fail. Maybe we can use it to mitigate the auto-attack damage after a big crunch? Who knows...

I honestly can't see it being only a single skill, that wouldn't be powerful at all. Ninja would get more mitigation in perfect dodge with no drawbacks, why give a tank a single parry? With drawbacks?

The skill would suck, I'm getting the impression these new abilities are meant to be great.

the whole thing is debatable... i would like it as it is maybe if a guaranteed proc follows like PLD shield swipe...

The side effect wouldn't make much sense if it were a single-use cooldown. When would a boss ever be attacking you from the side?

Could be boss plus adds? Really need more info before we dissect this ability. 1 hit vs duration will be a major factor.

I could have sworn, in the live letter itself, that Yoshi said something about this skill causing counter attacks as well.

I could go either way on duration vs. single instance. 30% is a lot, but Vengeance does that against all attacks. A single parry is super hard to time right.

Yeah, I heard that in the live letter as well.
Hoping it will be a sure 100% parry + counter attack.

Wouldn't it be awesome if it counters for the same damage you take?
Like in t12, a Revalation (with no buffs/debuffs at all) will cause around 10k dmg on a WAR
If I only use this skill, I will parry that for 30% mitigation, so it's 7k dmg I'm taking.
Does that mean I hit Phoenix back for 7k too >D
(Or do I hit it for 3k with the counterattack because that's the amount parried?)

If Im not wrong, this is the skill shown by the WAR in the HW's Benchmark. So it SHOULD have a Counter Attack... it only makes sense giving the risk for eating a Crit if hit from the side.

I would like to point out there are some magic attacks that can be parried like dark thunder in HM hard so I assume there is a specific modifier devs add to make certian especially potent spells to be enable to be parried. I assume what this stipulation does specifically is not being able to just have a warrior put their back to the wall in front of a line of mobs because they forcible move each other to make space so in a pull of 6 mobs or 3 large ones they body check the others to the sides of their target. And at the same time doesn't allow the warrior to move while the buff is up unless they back peddle with out taking a critical hits. So it like many other abilites in Heavensward so far seem to reward planned stationary tactics.

Can't you only parry from the front anyways?
