A Race Suggestion: Kitsune

If we're going to continue to go with mostly human races, this is one I'd like to see!

I love dogs, I like cats.

Foxes are like dogs with catlike personalities. And I love them.

So make a kitsune race please!

I love me some foxy ladies.

So we already have the ever popular cat-girl style, now we need the ever popular fox-girl style?

There is already an MMORPG with this sort of cutesy attire for players that want it. I keep forgetting the name, but it looks like one of those Korean MMOs. Why not start a fox girl in that instead of trying to cram it into FFXIV?

I agree, but I have my doubts that we'll get that anytime soon :/

Hm....maybe a foxy race that can switch between full on fox form when not in combat and human form? Then we'd have some of both of what we want kinda :s

Probably to a degree, yeah. That's kind of a good thing though. New facial options, lore, and maybe a few more features are all this race would need, since most stuff compatible with Miqotes would be compatible with it.

I would argue that all races in the game look too much like human already. With that said, it's pretty clear we're going to be using humanlike races unless we have a sudden change in direction, especially given how humanlike Au Ra ended up.

If we're not going to have anything radically different from human, we should embrace what we like as ideas that fall in line with the standard so far :3. I'd love a bestial race, but I'm okay with other stuff too.

I think it would be awesome to have a giant fluffy tail option like a fox would have, maybe even multiple tails. That would set it apart from Miqote but still help keep to the armor formula. Maybe some mischievous, sneaky, and more adult looking faces than Miqote too.

I can see a Bear or Moose/Deer style race being made more likely than a Fox race.

Could be a bulkier, more muscular animal race.

A bird race or fish race would also be interesting, if difficult to implement. Would basically be like Ixal or Sahagin, but more human than bird/fish.

Of course, I also don't want them to just make a ton of animal races just because they're easy. There's a ton of things you can do for a new race. Could make a Golem race, a Treant race, really anything you can justify in the story.

I tend to agree that we're unlikely to get anything that deviates too far from humans, but I honestly think that fluffier tails, different faces, and different shaped ears (which, imo are the real telltale sign of a fox-person vs a cat-person) should just be added to Miqo'te rather than making them an entirely new race.

I wouldn't mind a proper reptilian race seeing as how the Au Ra have a "Demonic" and not "Draconic" motif. (Despite my personal feelings that that statement is fairly false >.> )

I don't really see a problem with adding a foxlike race really. There already clans for each race with differences from each other as minor as just lore reasons, being identical on nearly everything else.

This race could be made quite noticeably different from Miqote and have lore behind it. Making Miqotes have more foxish options just for more aesthetic options but not having the lore to back up the fact that they are fox and not cat seems like a bad idea personally.

If I want to be a foxlike race, I don't want to have to play a Miqote with fox features but be stuck with Miqote lore and knowing I'm still just catbased, you know? Foxlike features really don't belong on Miqotes in my opinion. If they're added, it only makes sense to give them to a new race. If not a new race, at least a new Miqote clan, maybe an offshoot distant fox cousin to Miqotes or something.

I don't know about others, but a lot of that for me was because of how similar the facial options are in some cases. Particularly Miqotes to me. I don't know, I feel like a lot of the Au Ra facial options have a similar...feel?...to the Miqote options.

Viera or bust

If we're just going to have 96% human and 4% animal, there's no point in making a new race. If you want a fluffy tail, do some PvP until you're Rank 38-40 and get the Caster coat.

As for Viera, change to a Roegadyn Hellsguard female, get the bunny ears and bam. You now have a Viera (they do NOT have tails. They do, however, have creepy hands and feet).

I might even consider creating a second character to have a kitsune as one. I've always been a fan of foxes in general, and the kitsune are one of my favorite parts of Japanese folklore, so why not?

By in large the biggest issue with a Kitsune race that they wouldn't look different enough from Miqo'te. Sure they could have more vulpine features, but could you honestly tell the difference between the two of them? A playable Sylph race would honestly be better than just another human race. I hate the Sylphs, but at least that would be something completely different :T

I still want Viera, the rabbit race. My favorite race in the history of fantasy and video games. Or if not Viera, then at least a new rabbit race that is not humanoid so it's completely different as others expressed. I'm okay with a fox race too.

ye all the races actually look very human. the moqito for instance, is very human, except for the ears, which could alos be fake as well, and same for the tale. in ffxi the cats over there look like cats. here they just younger version of human girl let's say b etween 16 to 20 with a manga like look. its cute but they could have inculded that in the human form as another option, and made real cat girls with some fur like ffxi. those looked more intresting and definantly not human.

I hope we don't get Viera/Viera-lookalikes, unless if they ended up looking like something closer to the Taguel from fire emblem, fur over their bodies, weird marks on their faces, and floppy bunny. If we get another Hyur + animal race they should at least look more wild/beastly, another race that has the girls' options range from sexy to cute would be irritating.

I still want Tonberry, Goblin, Mandragora, Cactuar, and crab races.

I wanna be a tonberry stalker.

I like the Kitsune idea, but most likely we won't get any animal-lookalikes, so why not have a "race" like Automaton? :3

The question is, how do we make them look different and make them fit within the lore of the game? Allagan tech that's remained been recently surfaces sounds somewhat reasonable but still.

Why not have something that looks like it's a robot/doll with visible joints ect. that can have similar chosen racial details from already existing races? In FF14 there's a lot of lore of such things, with Allagan tech and mammets and what not, like the Magiteck Mount and goldsmith guild's master's Mammet. Have a race of automatons be born that are self-aware. I can easily see Cid and his team be crazy enough to do so.

How about a race of cloth golems?
Or like, a race of sentient clouds with slender human legs?
Or maybe a race of amphibious horned dwarves with bee faces?

We've gotten close to semi AI tech before (Maggie!) but actually achieving it seems a bit off still, though I'm not so aware on the GSM's guildmaster Mammet in question. It could be neat, but the minor sort of stuff for what's really steely skin + robot addons is super little and might get a good bit of backlash from the community.

We won't be getting anything different most likely, so I'm being realistic given the circumstances. I'd love a bestial race as I've said a billion times on these forums, but as they say, chances are "it ain't happenin'"

Since we have to work with members of the beast tribes in various aspects of the games anyway, why not just let us play as them? Sure there would be a few hiccups here and there lore wise in the MSQ, but not really given how often we're made to work alongside them in the MSQ itself.

Having an Alma'jaa or Kobold tank would be really fun to watch :D
