Upgrading graphics card but i remembered about the 900 series issues

So i planning to upgrade my graphics card to the 900s from my gtx 660ti 4gb but i remembered about these issues people complained about for a while, now i cant remember which card but i was wondering has these problems still persisting?. i remember it being about fps or rendering issues.

Can you guys tell me if this is still a problem?
or do you recommend a amd card instead?

It was the gtx970 card that had the issue with using more then 3.5 of it's 4gb of ram. I think it's still a decent card but i'd get a 960 or a 980 if you got the money for it.

Oh and yes it's still an issue for the card. Hardware problem not software.

Ah good to know the number, i needed to get a new graphics card to run the newest games since gtx 660ti has been struggling with DA:3 and assassin creed unity (note: assassin creed unity did have massive performance problems) but funny enough it could run witcher 3 lol

I have an evga 970 FTW and have no issues with the game. also 960 is terrible. My 680 Signature SC was pushing the same FPS as my friends 960. Also scored a 13,800 on the Directx 11 benchmark 1920x1080 everything maxed. Originally was going to get a 980 but in Canada it's 300$+ more than the 970 I bought. Even with the memory thing it's still a good card for the price.

There are no issues with the GTX9xx series. It was only the GTX970 which had by design a different way to handle its Vram. Nvidia failed to inform and communicate about the architecture of this card. The card won't be fixed cause it was not broken to begin with. All the bechmarks and reviews are legit and correct and the performance is the same so I can't see any issue here.

My EVGA 970 GTX SSC with a core i5 4690k runs the game at max at 1920x1200 (16:10 ratio) no problem. Don't think you could really go wrong with a 900 series for FFXIV.

Not even the DX11 benchmark at 2560x1440 and everything max consumes VRAM near the VRAM limit for which 970 might start lagging.

I have the 970 but I also have 16GB of RAM. I upgraded from the 660 and it was the best thing I've done.

Gtx 980 TI is about to be released within 1 to 2 weeks,
Expect price b/w $699 to $749. If u got that kind of cash u might want to wait...the 970/980 might drop in price
After ti release also.

I run a EVGA GTX 970 and have had absolutely 0 issues since I got my replacement card. The initial card I purchased was defective and flat out died a week after I installed it. There's nothing wrong with how the 970 performs. I'd wait a bit and see what happens when the 980ti gets released though. You might be able to save yourself a nice chunk of change.

I have a GTX960 and it's a pretty darn good card. It's going to be sketchy if you plan to use it beyond 1080p with max settings since it obviously can't match the 970, but it's a still good card all around.

Not really planning to max every settings just need one that can run recent games at least moderatly-high

Well that will also depend on how much money you want to spend then. The 960 is fairly cheap compared to the other cards, so if you only care about "just running" the games without graphical bottlenecks, then you can go for that and save a few dollars.

... and still run everything on max settings :P

But as others have stated, the 900 series cards are great cards. The "VRAM Issue" is not really an issue unless you run at super high resolutions, such as 4K or Triple monitor setups. That is where the lower grade VRAM will start to choke, its when your handling extremely high resolution textures passing through your card. If your just playing at 1080p, you won't notice any alleged stutter.

Honestly, if you're going to utilize all of the 970's card, then you need to save upfor the 980.
As stated above me, if you're going to use anything higher than 1080p, save up.

other than that, my 970 has been serving me well. No problems at all.
