Binding Coil of Bahamut - Current difficulty level

So I have finally unlocked the first set of coils. Playing as Tank, Wod gear left hand side and 120 non upgraded (yet) right hand side.

Curious as to how the coils play out now. I tend to watch videos/take notes etc.. prior to runs. But with nerfing that has gone on, instances can be pretty different in videos compared to runs.

Is it worth doing a bit of research still, or is watching a quick vid and then jumping in and giving it a go the best way?

Don't want to be the coil noob wiping everyone.

I would still suggest watching vid guides as well as video of playthroughs from a tank perspective, because there are many mechanics that still need to be performed, knowing where to position yourself, pulling mobs or bosses, and what CDs to use that are still essential for survival and holding hate. You can probably still get away with DFing T1-4 and T6-8 IF the random players are on the same page, but T5, T9, and FCoB will crush anyone who fly in blind, don't pick up fast enough on the mechanics, and/or half prepared.

I'd say mostly the videos will still be relevant. I haven't dipped my toes back into Coil recently (I played 1-5 a lot when it was new, but not much else), but mos tof the things will be the same, just more lenient. Turn 1 is almost certainly different since the attack up stacks won't destroy you, so people do that in a more streamlined simple manner. T2 has been a joke since people figured out the enrage strat, T4 I'd imagine plays out about the same but now with downtime between phases that was more or less absent before. T5 has to be done in pretty much exactly the same manner, though death sentence is less of one.

Turn 1-4 are almost negligible. It's a good idea to understand what's going on, but you can honestly jump into Duty Finder and complete them almost 100% (Skip 3, btw, it's literally just a trash segment). Why? Because a lot of the actual strategy can be negated. T1 and T4 have damage output and enemy health so low that you should easily be able to just tank and spank everything. T2 is also super easy because of its low HP and even if you do the intended method, should be over before much of anything can go too wrong (If a group has trouble with that, you can wait out T2 and engage the boss at the end right before its enrage timer runs out, then powerheal through it, as it's actually simpler).

T5 onwards, however, are where things get tougher. T5's DPS, survival, etc. checks are vastly easier now, but it's a test to see if you can learn and react to mechanics, tank busters, etc.; you still have to execute the mechanics because many are still deadly. T6-8 are more leniant, as many things that used to be "this will kill you" now just heavily damage you, but will still require a level of execution. Videos are hella useful from 5 onwards to understand what's going on in the fight, because you do still have to execute - they're just more recoverable now.

T9 onwards may have echo now, but the fights themselves aren't nerfed beyond that, and will require you to still execute everything properly, largely using the same strategies they always were.

Ive done turns 1-7 over the past two weeks. I watched a video guide for each turn and then ran it. I haven't seen anything in any of the turns that was different than what the guides showed, so I don't think that will be a problem.

If anything, there may be certain strategies to circumvent or ignore mechanics, but you can't be faulted for doing the battle the way it was intended. Such strategies should be discussed beforehand, especially with new players in the party. For example, in T1, instead of the original method of splitting and feeding Caduceus, teams with enough DPS can merge the snakes, heal through 8 stacks of the damage buff, and burn the snake down in one shot.

Also, I play on a JP server, so most PUGs speak JP. Has made for some interesting communication strategies in the past. May make coil a bit more tricky.

I would just skim through the text guides for 1-4; they're pretty much a faceroll now, although you want to know the general gist of it.

Read and watch a guide for T5 though. While it's vastly outdated, it still introduces a lot of mechanics to handle.

You watch the vids to "understand" the mechanics, not to just go ok i copy.
Then you use it to arm urself, which will allow u to be more flexible if the party skips phases etc.
just don't beat urself up if u mess up because this is year old + content and ppl should be happy for ppl at least giving coil a try.

Op, please make sure you understand the accuracy requirements for each turn. If you don't have the accuracy eat food or swap out pieces until you do. This is very important for dps and tanks.

If you make it to Turn 13, pray. Pray to whatever diety you worship. Finding 7 competent people to do this with is harder than the fight itself.

Turn 5 and Turn 9 will wipe even the highest geared of players, simply because of mechanics.

One MAJOR mechanic has been outgeared and that was the need to LB all the snakes together to make sure the big one could be DPS'd down in time.

Now it's just burn 'em all ASAP and let God sort 'em out.

Watch a good video with some guy explaining all the mechanics, learn the pattern of all the phases, try it in DF for practice (try to passe the Twisters phase), then when you think you ready to clear it, go PF in a clear party. I did it and it took me around a mouth to clear T5 as a DPS. The main difficulty it's to find 7 other people who can do all the patterns without dying in the process.

Learn the mechanics. Learn Raid awareness. Learn to perfect the placement of the mobs, getting them there quickly. Learn to build hate really really fast. Learn each individual Bosses pattern for optimized Defense CD rotation. Get some good friends that are good players. Should be fine. Really the hardest one is getting 7 other good people, if you yourself are good. If you're not good...well...gotta get good and still get 7 other good people.

I was gonna mention the accuracy myself. The wod set looks good, and it's i120, but there is very little accuracy on the left side and that will make things impossible to tank.

About T5, I am playing on a Jap server, and my Jap lang is just basic. I watched guides, but kept dying (>30 times). I am a tank, usually ST.
The part with the snakes is hardest: I know the trick of how to kill them, but when I'd try that, the players stayed close to the snakes when they died, which is bad.
I watched a Japanese guide now too. In it, the ST grabs gets the first 2 small snakes to follow him around the dungeon in a circle, until the next 2 small snakes arrive, then bring all 4, incl. big one, then kill them, then the players stay far away (slightly different from Engl. one).
I tried doing this too, but I can't get the snakes to follow me. My gear is 103. The MT & others are a lot better geared than me. What do you think: should I keep trying this a ST or try as MT? If ST, how do I deal with the small snakes?

To Haruki above, I'm not sure about differences in JP vs NA methods for T5 but it's honestly easier to just burn the first two snakes to the ground with the main one with the current overgearing. The only difficulty really is in doing DPS while dodging the Divebombs (and it's something you should probably get used to anyway).

That said, if you've having trouble pulling them away it's going to be tough until you upgrade gear. The biggest would be to go after would be your weapon. Even getting to the i110 would make a difference. Otherwise, make sure no DPS are hitting the snakes and use Flash and Provoke as necessary.

But again, if they're all better geared than you that effectively puts them to the i130+ mark or higher which significantly outgears the content and you're probably better off going burn method (in fact, that might be what the DPS are expecting if they're the ones keeping you from pulling the snakes away).

I've tried it 10 more times, mainly as ST. ST is incredibly hard in this one. With MT I was closest but twister killed me. I think MT is 10 times easier.

Raid awareness is the single most important skill you need to develop for Coil. Almost every turn requires you to be paying attention to your debuff bar, the enemy's casting bar, attacks without telegraphs, things that are happening to other people, or a combination of the above. I've seen more wipes due to someone tunnel visioning than I have to anything else-- you can get away with tunneling in a lot of other fights, but not in Coil where a single mistake can wipe the entire raid.

I finished it today, finally, around the 50th time. I played ST because I knew the mechanics very well. But I was just extremely lucky, I got a rly good team in Duty Finder. They were massively over-geared. I mean, I had around 8k HP and the other tank had 13k HP. We sailed through the snake part: killed the big snake with just the first 2 small ones, then bashed the other 2 small ones quickly. so the team made the difference - everyone knew how to do the divebomb and everything. I'm gonna start the second coil soon. Thanks for the help!!! It was useful to know not to worry and just kill the snakes quickly. It was funny, but because I watched guides so many times, I couldn't imagine the answer would be "just hit them until they die"! Haha! I thought it was a complex strategy I didn't know. :)

Overgearing will permit facerolling. Facerolling is VERY misleading. Yes you were lucky. if the group was average geared, all that stuff you learned would have been needed.

For the snakes in t5, even in sub i90 solo tanking I would eat 3 stacks most of the time (sometimes 2nd small 1 would die just as I was dragging across and big snake would have the stack but not me, but was rare and hard to pull off). Back then it was still possible to heal through that so there really is no reason in 100+ gear to bother separating them out for the stacks.

lol true but everyone started out fresh and we didn't know anything about it. Learning from going into dungeons etc will make better practice. Only butt hurt people whines about getting "wipe out." It takes time and patience to learn.

Although I wouldn't call it mandatory, I do strongly believe that the only time its ok to go into a raid blind is if your entire pre-made party/static has chosen to do so. Usually when the content is still new. Mechanics in coil, especially 5-13, are mechanics that if handled incorrectly, will wipe the entire raid. So its just smart to have an idea of whats going on so you aren't wiping potential farmers and ppl who know the fight. Just kinda a courtesy to the 7 other ppl in your party.
