Never, I roll greed on anything that isn't an upgrade, unless I can't do anything with it or someone asks specifically for it, then I pass.
I usually greed in Dungeons/ST/CT/1st&2nd Coil since I can turn in for seals. In WoD I pass if I don't play it, same with Final Coil. I have everything leveled but only for completion so I don't roll on melee/bard cuz I'm horrible at those classes. :x
I did actually get upset once, but let it go shortly after. I was testing a tank for my static on T10 and he rolled & won the casting choker (SMN is my alt) with NO BLM unlocked and ACN at lvl 10 ... I found it very selfish and did call him out, but dropped it after that ... he promptly left anyway due to other reasons.
Dungeon loot and raid/trial drops are not equal. As far as dungeons go
may the best roll win
I generally Need on anything I feel that I might need, for any reason, but if I know someone else wants it too then I'll either greed, or most likely pass if I don't have an immediate use for it as an upgrade and they do.
I need/greed all the time like a true loot whore.
Though if I see a lower level player I probably will pass to them, or if I have too much crap with me already.
I need if its an upgrade/I can desynth it/all crafting items. I greed on everything else, unless someone in my party asks specifically for it and I have no use for it.
I've gotten pretty dramatic over primal mounts. But after you roll 12 single digits in a row, then roll a 97, only to be beaten by a 99, who wouldn't?
After 10 years of MMOs I don't care if i lose a roll, but I do make my own rolls fair toward the other players. I need only things that are upgrades for the job I'm playing at that time or I ask if it is ok to roll need on something for an alt. I greed items for alt jobs or retainers and items that I can sell for nice profit, the rest I pass. I actually prefer getting sels through FATEs while spritbonfing :)
Yes, it is annoying when some guy in BiS gear rolls need on something that would have been an upgrade, but it really isn't worth getting mad about for me.
Only reason I can see for people rolling need is if they need seals or for desynthing. Not gonna lie I have done it with dark light armor in brayflox when I was leveling it. As for coil loot I find it hilarious people roll need on things they don't have leveled but hey to each their own.
Never.
I was pretty sad when I rolled a 98 on puff of darkness and still lost but i kept it to myself. i'm not really a loot whore and i only roll if i want something for a glamor that i really, really want like hussar's jackcoat. (and even then only if there aren't any newer players)
I rolled Greed on Titan's Shield because I thought it might be fun to have when I get a PLD leveled to 50. Rolled a 3. Every other player but one left without rolling because it was right after light farming came out. Won the roll because the other player rolled a 2 and he was super pissed about getting beat by a 3 but the way I see it, he should have significantly lowered his expectations based on rolling a 2 as anything but a 1 on my side would have won. Speaking of Greeding on tank gear I can't use yet, mone of my last WoD runs the tank chest dropped at the end and I rolled Greed thinking it would be nice to have for when I get a lvl 50 tank, and I figured there was no way I'd actually win because the tank would probably get it but what the heck I might as well try. He must have had it because I beat the other 5 people who rolled on it, got it and said thanks for the run and left before anyone could view my search info to see if I could use it yet or not. I shouldn't feel bad though because I always pass the other tank gear when it drops, and the mountains of monk gear, since I figure there has to be a party member other than me who can actually go ahead and use them now.
What annoys me is when people try to force me to wait out a loot roll because apparently us having an equal chance at it isn't good enough for them. So even if I roll something pitifully low I'll stay on principle alone, especially if it's a WoD/ST minion.
I remember helping some guy get his clear of T11. At the very beginning of the instance, I told that the only thing I need are the Bard Boots if they drop, and people were like "sure, just have them" (stats suck so I would figure no one wants them anyways). I was incidentally playing as NIN at the time since we already had a Bard in the party.
Lo and behold, I see the Bard boots I was missing, only tp get outrolled by the new scholar who was lying dead extended periods of the fight. I wouldn't have really minded, but the guy only had a level 15 archer and gave me no explanation for rolling on it when he had 0 use for it.
There's also the times when you randomly go do an ex Primal, and the pony drop goes to someone lying dead the whole run. Generally I just find it funny when they win it and go gg and leave lol.
^That's a tableflipper right there. Damn, man.
Mine is a positive one actually. Last night, while helping someone clear T5 (as a Bard), the Allagan Blade finally dropped for the first time ever in all my clears and I got it.
I might've came a little when that happened.
Hm, wasn't dramatic about it, but chests in Brayflox NM dropped the same hands piece twice which I'd have really liked to have on my DRG (Aetherial stuff, so you can get both of them). First time tank needed on them which is fine, but I got really pissed about him needing on them the second time they dropped. Since I don't tend to speak when I'm healing (otherwise I'd cuss all the time), I kept silent and carried on.
Dammit, people, it's a game and all, but would it kill you not to be so obviously greedy?
Shiva farming, two ponies in a row dropped and I rolled a 6 and a 7. So the whole pony thing is a bust with luck like that, but there are also Shiva weapons I could use for upgrades on some of my classes. One of which is scholar. The book dropped and I rolled a 98 and was super excited because I knew the scholar in the party already has it (not equipped though since he's got a nexus now). But nope, he rolled on it anyway even though it can't be desynthed or traded in for seals yet. Considering how horrible my luck was on everything else, I was pretty upset about it. I didn't say anything though; gave myself time to chill out. Was still kind of salty about it a few days later though so I joked to him about how I should have saved that 98 roll for a pony.
