Thoughts on new 3.0 PvP sets (and speculation)

A while ago at an event, they revealed 3 of the new gear sets that will be available in 3.0 once we get a PvP rank cap increase. What do you think? There are theories that PvP will no longer have unique sets anymore because these seem to be melee DPS/magic DPS or healer/tank judging from what was mentioned at the event. However, I feel they wouldn't do that despite it being a bit more work to have individual sets of gear for each job, since they can always just recolor them for the i130 sets when the time comes.

It looks like the next theme is "monsters" compared to the last batch which was just "animals", as you see Behemoth/Gryphon/a dragon of sorts in the gear. I wonder if this will extend to Primals as well and give us our first sets of Primal armor. Supposing that this is just a small sample of what is to come, what enemies/monsters would you like for what jobs?

Do you have a link to the interview(s)? When I saw these slides at PAX or w/e it was they were just showing the art and there wasn't much discussion about it. I haven't heard of any pvp changes except the new Frontline map (3.0) followed by an expansion of Wolves Den (3.x)

Had assumed this was just DRK/AST/MAC i110.

On topic of expansion, is the level cap for PVP even going to change, or are we not having lvl60 PVP until the update to Wolves Den

We were wondering about that and it's possible that the new map could be level 60 capped so that we'd be able to use new abilities in it while the Carteneau Flats: Borderland Ruins may remain level 50 capped and give EXP towards level 51 and up along with level 50 Den as we know it. It's fine though since it's out a month after expansion but still. >_> And in addition to that, will Wolves' Den receive a level 60 mode or are we stuck with the level 50 cap until the big WD update?

As far as "changes" go, we just know that a new rule will be introduced for the new map (random starting locations for GCs with differing distance between them).

Apparently they had mentioned that the new PvP rank cap was 50 somewhere, but I don't have a source.

My guess is they will keep frontlines level capped at 50. If they make it so you can get regular exp from lvl50 frontlines, that is going to be huge for me. I'm definitely going to be running den and frontlines like crazy to level up all my jobs and it's going to make the grind to 60 enjoyable. On Aether we've actually build up a solid den community that's able to get matches almost every day and I feel like being able to level up through den will help ensure it stays strong when the expansion hits.

So do you think we'll be locked out of using the new skills completely in all PvP modes for the time being?

My guess is for secure/slaughter you'll only be able to use the regular 1-50 skills (with updated mechanics like the changes to skill speed), similar to how the 30/40 cap den works now. The new frontlines they're releasing 4 weeks after the patch will likely be a level 60 cap and will let you use all of the new class skills. There's a chance that may also up the cap on secure/slaughter at this point, but I have no idea.

If that caster gear is for Astrologian only there will be no WHMs and SCHs left in PVP.

Glad that SE is moving passed those whacky designs of Elkliege/Wolfliege/Swanliege

I hope to have seen the last of healer sets with giant bows on the behind. As if they aren't enough of a target it gets wrapped.

If Astrologian really will get to swap between healing and barrier styles, then there won't be any WHMs or SCHs left regardless. 8D

Dark Knight and Astro could indeed fit with those two sets, but i am curious about a dragon for mech, that doesnt fit very well. The dragon set more likely looks like Ninja/Monk.

DRG/SCH/SMN have to be somewhat silly again. It's tradition!

That DPS set screams MNK to me with the amount of design details we can find on previous MNK gear sets, so I'm just gonna hope it'll be for that Job too. Otherwise I'll have to level whatever dps job it is for... But I personally don't see a ranged class wearing a set like this.

yes i hope they dont go dps heal tank specific gear. and just go with job specific gear. if they go with monster route they havev plenty of option to choose from.

I want a Phoenix for Whitemage. :O
