WHM T13 Questions

So i'm getting to p3/4 quite consistently, but there are a few things i need to clear up and improve on before then.

P2 Giga after megaflare, what's good way to top this up? I find i either cast medica I early on in the giga cast to try to get everyone at max health for giga.

Actual giga. What's the best way to deal with this? If i try to time a cure III as giga lands, i usually end up pulling instant aggro on the shadow that spawns, and get a quick meeting with the floor.

Rage - Same kind of question actually.

Generally, i'm happy with mechanics, and i'm comfortable healing other things in this fight, i just feel really rushed and / or behind when it comes to the above abilities.

Obviously continue to top up before Giga using whichever spell or combination of spells is suitable for the situation. We've trained our group to pile onto the WHM immediately before Rage and/or Giga in case a full Cure III is required.

After Giga I would suggest not attempting to top up the raid right away unless your timing is perfect, because the risk of pulling the add is very high. Only the tanks take any damage at all until after Flare Stars begin, and as long as everyone is fully healthy by Megaflare time, there are no issues (IOW: wait until the OT has the add under control and then go about healing the raid).

Same deal with the Storm of Meracydia: make sure that you aren't dropping post-Megaflare curebombs as it spawns.

Keep an eye out on Bahamut's health. If it reaches to a point where transition is guaranteed after megaflare: Divine Seal -> Cure III the stack group -> stack up behind bahamut* -> Medica (don't wait for people to be stacked)
I do not recommend using Medica II before the adds appear for this phase. It's not really necessary and no need to go for that random off chance the tank can't establish enough enmity in a short time.

You can still time it without getting agro from the shadow. The timing would be when Bahamut finishes his fabulous pirouette spin (a full 360) for Cure III. Otherwise: Top your tanks first. Once hate has been established cast a Medica II from the center of the arena

For rage you can't do the same, sadly. The damage calculation occurs at the same time the add appears. Meaning that your healing can only take effect after the add is already there. So top off tanks again, run to the center and (swift cast) Medica II from there. The range should be enough to hit nearly everyone.

Additionally, what you could do:
When megaflare mechanics happen in phase 2:
Divine Seal when the first megaflare hits -> Cure III the marked group -> Medica after stacking -> Regen both tanks while Divine Seal is still up.
If you're also responsible for the main tank during megaflares, throw a cure or cure II at the tank first before casting Medica.

If you really need it, ask for a cover from the paladin. You can have it for: first and third ghost or only second ghost. Depends on whether your group is covering melees for earthshakers. Also applicable for the third phase.

Transitioning from phase 1 to 2, I ensure everyone is topped before the gigaflare itself but I won't bomb heals for the gigaflare damage that follows, instead I'll be making sure both tanks are topped with regen. From then on, if the transition was after a megaflare my medica II will still be ticking and thus will top people up in good time along with fairy heals. If it was after earth shakers then I'll typically cast a medica II from the middle of the arena as the first set of orbs appear, the OT will generally have more than enough enmity on the add that hate won't be an issue unless something is going drastically wrong elsewhere. That also gives me good time to help the SCH on the MT for the flare breath that follows.

For Megaflare>Tower>rage in phase 2 I run a somewhat inefficient but safe method of healing this. I'll hit Divine seal a few moments before Megaflare starts to cast, then Medica II as Megaflare is casting, from there I'll position myself either with the circle stack or to the side and regen the MT+squishiest 2 stack, then start a regular medica cast roughly as the unavoidable (Plumes > Unavoidables > Circles) megaflare hits land. This ensures my medica hits between the circles and the tower making sure that squishier sorts don't die from the combination of both hits. From there I can do two things from the following, cure 1 the MT for the flare breath (Or someone else if they are at risk of dieing to rage), cast another Medica or hit a Cure 3 on the stack. A messy megaflare or a few people with 2 stacks usually means more AE healing. As mentioned above, the critical thing to keep in mind is that you want to ensure your big healing is done before Rage completes the cast or you will end up with massive hate on the shadow. Typically a cure on the MT followed by a medica does the job nicely.

From there, I'll immediately move either to the middle, or away from the Shadow that's about to pop to ensure it doesn't get a cheeky hit on me whilst the OT is tagging it.

Just medica 2 Before giga/rage. It should be enough if there is medica and whispering down tick heals up. You do not need instantly heal everything up once they get damaged. There is plenty of time let your hots tick up.

What I do normally, for Gigaflare I typically just Cure 3(or Medica depending how low DPS are at that point). After it happens, I throw out Medica 2(most Warriors are good at Snap Aggro, so it's usually not a concern). Megaflare purposes, since people stack up, a key point to note is any of the full health bars at the start(remember people take splash damage initially and then you got megaflare rings)...Look for people that have full health after initial hit, pre-cast cure 3 a little after they get together. This should -mostly- cure that group. Then all you have is just a medica to top up. When rage happens...Medica 2 and just let the HoT's do their work.

Gigaflare, you can M2 between the wyvern spawning and the damage coming out pretty easily if you time it. Nothing more is needed typically if MNK Mantra'd.
Megaflare > Rage, you can M2 the Megaflare and then do any required healing to get people up for Rage, and that will cover a lot of what the Rage will do.
51% Gigaflare, M2 > C3 after you're stacked in the middle. I find doing C3 > M2 is worse due to people not staying stacked at that point on average, and you'll be full HP by Megaflare anyway. If your SCH is for some reason using Eos and is going to WD at this point, you can skip the C3.

You can M2 immediately after Rage but that can be a ticket to death occasionally. Usually works out, but it's an avoidable risk with very little benefit to do it in that time frame so I always pre-M2 or M2 after the wyvern is dead.

Here is a mini guide of p1 and p2:

P1: I heal left ES

Mt pulls, auto attack, breath:
regen, cure 2.
Mega flare followed by breath, then flatten then 3 breaths:
divine seal, stack (if needed) medica 2, cure 2 the tank, immediately ss mt for flatten, cure1 or 2 the followup breaths.
Earth shaker, breath:
Regen the player. Time ur cure1/2 then immediately cure 2 the mt.

Repeat till giga flare. If u follow the above u just need 1 cure 3 before giga to top up everyone. So... Just stack behind baha during giga cast and top up with 1 cure 3.

P2: whm usually heals ot. Here going into the phase u don't need to heal anyone except the ot before the next mega flare. Let eos whispering dawn take care of the dps health. Actually no one will take any damage during this phase before mega flare except the tanks. There is a lot of time for their health to regen.

Add spawn, virus it, regen ur tank, cure 1/2.
Dealing with orbs: regen who ever takes 2 balls.

After the add dies regen mt prepare for flatten followed by breath: stoneskin, cure then cure 2 accordingly.

Mega flare , breath, rage:divine seal stack if needed, medica 2 (timed to pop right after mega but also before tower explode), cure 2 mt, cure 3 on yourself. (This is before rage everyone will be 100% hp before rage. After rage you don't need to heal anyone except tank. Let ur medica 2 tick. It will heal them)

Repeat till giga flare.

Giga flare prepare for dive bombs and the followup mega flare: stack under the sacred soil cure 3 before giga, medica 2 after giga, stack on the middle waymark, then cure 3. :cool:

Medica 2 is your friend

I medica 2, stoneskin the OT just as giga is gonna hit and regen both tanks after he grabs aggro. I never have aggro issues with this approach

DPS will take damage from orbs so just keep an eye out for melees who take 2 stacks etc

Keep an eye on the stack, if they stack where the tower spawns keep them up.


Generally in this fight HOTs are your friend :)

I agree, there is sometimes a DPS on positional for the 51% giga that I prefer the Divine Seal+M2 then C3 when everyone will be on the DB stack.

Allow the HoT to heal people, only the tanks take significant damage for the next 15+ seconds.

It also helps if your group members do their part not to eat unnecessary damage. If your OT eats 3 Flare Stars and everyone else spreads appropriately, non-tanks should rarely end up with 2 stacks for Rage. Also make sure that they aren't clipping each other with unmarked Megaflares, as this can cause serious complications and make the need to heal much more urgent than it should be.

Edit: And, of course, keep in mind that the SCH fairy can help top up lightly-injured players for free, which can save you a little MP if you can trust it to do its job (or trust your SCH to direct Embraces as needed).

Good luck! I guess I should ask is when are you timing your first shroud? Should use it after the first flatten so it's back up again during P2. But aside from that there shouldn't be much one-off curing needed aside from the tanks in P2. You also get Divine Seal up during P2 megaflare and gigaflare so ensure that is being used as that will get the M2 HoTs on the party back up to full.

That is really all you need. Plus trusting your SCH's fairy, and they can use Whispering Dawn/Rouse as well to help if they are using Eos. This phase is supposed to be easy on your MP.

Of course like others said it helps if everyone does their part not to eat more than 2 flare stars but preferably one each, so spreading it out as much as possible. Communication and situational awareness can help in this area if someone with one star is tethered to two more for-example.

This is the best way to heal this damage combo. I'd opt to use med 2 first then medica to top people off but that's a matter of personal preference and doesn't matter as long as you are getting the burst heal timed properly in case the tower spawns under the stack group. Having divine seal for these aoe heals will save you a ton of mana as well.

I want to add stoneskin on the MT as megaflare is cast will help mitigate damage from flare breath. Refresh regen with divine seal up also helps a lot. Stoneskin on OT right after rage helps mitigate deadly dive from the add.

You do not need to heal the damage from giga or rage as soon as it hits.

Let medica 2 pick people up and if needed medica to finish the job, will make the tanks life a lot easier as well.

The way my WHM and I handled P2/P3 Gigas (the Giga that transitions into these phases) and Rages was that he would Medica and I would pop Whispering Dawn and we just focused the tanks and let my fairy top us and the DPS off. Our OT also pre-positioned himself to where the add spawns and would have a Butcher's Block ready to pick it up, we rarely ever had any hiccups where it would murder the WHM. As for healing us up before Rage right after Megaflare he would Cure III us as we would all stack behind Bahamut after the stack Mega goes off so they're all in a Sacred Soil (I place it around Bahamut so I can get the MT in it) and while he's healing the group I'm usually focusing the MT and anyone who wasn't in for Cure III. This is just how we do it, it honestly just depends on how your co-healer and you work together.

Hey Ehr. I haven't used Eos all that much in anything to be honest. (Oh yeah, i have switched to scholar since opening this post and killed t13 guys ^^). I prefer the bonuses that using selene brings. But yeah, i'm definitely gonna have to go back in and try to clear this as a white mage too.

Eos can be useful if your feel that your group needs the extra room for error that she can provide. With 15% echo my group destroys the DPS checks, so I'll sometimes run Eos if I think that people are going to do derpy things like clip each other with Megaflares or fail to stack as quickly as they should since the added HoT from Whispering Dawn and the buff from Fey Covenant can help guard against these mistakes.

Of course when I play BLM I would prefer the SCH to use Selene so that I can enjoy pew-pewing faster, and everyone else be damned if they mess up :P

I use Selene for phase 1 but at the Giga I switch to Eos. We had more than enough DPS to meet the DPS check and my group said they really like having Fey Covenant for Rages and Gigas. Another reason I used Eos was to try to help the WHM with some MP conservation. However this was before Echo so I could probably just use Selene the whole time.

Our grp uses selene throughout the whole fight.

Medica 2 just before giga on add phase
Cure 3 on pepperonis if in tower, medica otherwise, then medica 2 just before and the fey tops off as needed.

Killed it as whm a few times now, have to say, it was much easier after learning the damage flow of the fight as a scholar. Advice to any whm struggling with the same thing i did, *learn when you can lay off healing and let the scholar fairy handle it*

Grats on your win, and totally good advice. The only thing I would add for any WHM is really trusting your HoTs to top-off the raid. Not only will it save your life (pulling drake aggro after P1 giga), but trusting the fairy to top-off when needed also helps one learn to manage MP so well that it'll never be an issue unless you have to raise people.

Trusting your co-healer in T13 is very important. If either of you are slacking then the other will be forced to over-compensate and it can make things really difficult as the fight drags on.

Unfortunately yeah, about 20 kills down the line i've yet to see either scholar book or white mage staff. Lucky this gear is going to become very obsolete very fast lol.
