Market Board should show player name instead of retainer, or nothing

I think that instead of showing the name of the retainer selling the items, it should show the name of the player who owns the retainer instead. So, for me, anything I sell would be sold by "Aislin Delhir", rather than showing the name of one of my retainers.

The positives would be that if someone would like to try to make a deal with the person selling items (ex., "hey, I'd like to buy X item, but I'd prefer to pay a little less - I would like to buy a lot of them, though!").

The negatives would be you could harass the person selling stuff, but if people are being harassing, you can just blacklist and/or report them. I personally don't see this as a big deal.

If the negatives are too much, I'd rather it just don't show a name at all. Just show me the price and the quantity and that's it. Why...? Honestly, the things people name retainers is pretty awful. I understand some player names are awful too, but with the retainers it really just amps up the bad.

Having the retainer name just isn't useful information. The best it can possibly do is annoy me by being a stupid and/or offensive name. Not exactly a plus in my book.

On my server someone called their retainer something along the lines of "Dirty Meatcurtains". There's all sorts of nasty names people come up with.

If it's an offensive retainer name, they don't get my gil - I don't care how good a deal it might be. Those immature little twits who think such names are *funny* really need to just go play that game we don't mention...lots of cretins there! Player name showing would be fine with me.

I don't even look into the seller name, unless I want to know if one product is sold by the same retainer than some other product. In that sense, not showing name at all would be counter productive.

I'd rather this wasn't implemented. I don't need people knowing I am the one undercutting them, so they can sit there and wait for me to log off after doing a player search, knowing when it's best to strike. ;P

That's all I believe people really want out of this. Not what you're saying you want.

Its bad enough that crafted items show our name. I got harassed by a few players whom I undercut, to the point that they falsely accused me of RMT in order to get me out of their markets. They also made a habit of following me around while I was gathering, and trade locking me when I tried to teleport through my nodes. blacklisting helps, but it doesnt stop them from talking about you to other people, and actively paying people to NOT buy from you. Showing player names would make this even worse, and open this type of harassment up to more markets.

TL'DR: please dont do this. it will be bad.

My two retainers, Cinderella and Elsa, have sold quite a number of items on the marketplace for their name alone.
Usually with their names back-to-back so people only see the glaring princess names on the board.

Or at least I hoped. Maybe a bit of undercutting too.

But regardless, I think the retainer names should stay. Gives me leverage as both a seller and a buyer, to sell things under clever names. And reward those with clever references.

If you want people to find you, use a retainer name similar to your character name, and crafted stuff has your signature on it anyway. If you want to avoid the harassment, you can use whatever name you want.

The real issue is that people name their retainers with vulgarity.. Address the actual issue at hand by reporting said retainers to GMs and hope they take action, not change the game mechanics

There are pros and cons to this, the biggest con i can think off is that you may get tells from random people asking if they can get it for a lower price, even worst if a friend sees it and ask you if they can have it for free (a fat cat or nutkin for example).

I have enough troubles controlling my blacklist for the great deal of bot spamming that can happen in this game. I'd not be too keen on the idea of adding marketing harassment as a potential reason to block someone.

If there is an offensive name or a name that'd break the ToS, just report them. It'd be same situation if it were a player's name. So regardless, you run the risk of reading something stupid. Giving the retainer's name, the listed item, etc, would be enough for them to link the owner for a report.
