How long will it take to craft a Free Company airship?
How much will it approximately cost to purchase a Free Company airship?
How long will the process be to craft a FC airship?
What is the use or benefit of having a Free Company airship?
Is there something special that they are used for such as Free Company quests?

Will all players in the FC be able to use the airship crafting area to create their own personal airship?
If so, will only allow one person at a time to craft their airship or will everyone be able to craft it at the same time?

We should be getting some more info on 3.0 as we near release date.

As a part of the free company workshop, we'll introduce the house crafting feature, which can be used to adjust the appearance of your house. You can consider this a type of glamour for the house where you create a new appearance to project onto your home. We'll also be introducing an airship crafting feature where you will work together to build airships. You'll need to spend gil to build this workshop area, but don't worry, the price isn't that high. We’ll start with these two features for now, but we're planning to expand on this system so players can craft various things in the future.

For house crafting, please use your imagination to see what kind of house you can build using the existing building materials. For airship crafting, you’ll need to combine four parts to build an airship: a bow, hull, stern, and sail. There will be various types of each part. For example, you can work with your Free Company and build an airship using a really fast engine to make explorations faster; however, the fuel consumption would be greater. Additionally, your airships will gain ranks by exploring the skies, and you will be able to build and own multiple airships.

At the launch of Heavensward, you’ll be able to build airships and explore the skies using sky treasure maps to obtain various items, and make new discoveries. As for housing, we’ll have more furnishings, as well as the ability to change the appearance of the house using the house crafting.

They're probably not going to discuss the time investment or cost until after the airships launch (pun intended)
Simply because they got in trouble when they quoted pricing last time >_>

I don't expect the purchase price to be cheap of course, but would be nice to find out more about the other questions like the personal airships if it is quest crafted, if a person doesn't own a personal house can they use the Fc crafting station to craft their personal airships and if that is the case can multiple people craft their ships at the same time.

Housing and the likes should be free for everyone, the decor is what should be costly. The model they're going by is a huge failure in itself.

I've been saying this forever.
I don't like any of this crap because we don't even have enough friggin' houses for people at all...whether it's
FC and Personal. They NEED to fix housing before they do ANYTHING to airships. Don't get me wrong
I wanna airship but they need to do something about housing, or lackthereof housing for many people
to even do Airships.

i read a reddit post today saying that even after expansion we wont be able to fly on our airships until the first patch update we just send them out like retainers... I really hope this isnt true :(

No, it works correctly as it is right now. If it was free, it would be clogged up with RMT. Who knows, it might be clogged up with RMT botlords right now.

If you want to go all socialist and give everyone a free house, then it will be a fight over location. That is also a bad idea. A limited amount of housing is correct, because then you have people who can wander around and visit, not just teleport to their own house and never look at anything else out there.

In another game, they produced "homesteads" to give everyone access to the farming/free-gathering nodes mechanics... that also went over about as well as you think it went, when players and bots would just get as many as possible using hundreds of extra accounts.

Nobody thinks about the damage this does to the game economy and server performance. I can point to another game that limited housing and it works about as well over there as it does here, everyone who bought early, sits on their land on the first few servers, and there's plenty of land on the newer servers.

The "perfect" solution is to extend the "inn room" into a personal housing instance by having a something akin to a "apartment entrance" in every housing area. So you're still part of the neighborhood (eg going to the window would show the houses.) You just don't get a lot of space, and only get a "windowbox garden". You could pick from "Upper floor, Lowerfloor" and get different views.

The same thing can be done for the Airships. An instanced "airship hangar/garage" for when you come back to the V2 areas.

I thought they said they were gonna add a docking station in the housing wards for the airships? I wish all this info was in one place..such a pain to keep up with it and dig up stuff..meh..

As for the free housing if not that for free have it so at least FC members get a free room in the fc instead of hitting them for 300k for just a room ... would create a huge market for housing items which is not there anymore as there are no houses available anywhere....

Reddit: Can you tell us anything about Free Company crafting? When is it coming? What is it going to entail?

Yoshida: At the release of Heavensward Free Company crafting will become available. Within your Free Company housing you’ll be able to set up a sort of work shop in your basement. You may have seen visual aspects of this shown at a Producer Letter live but you’ll build a workshop in your basement. There’ll be two large categories of stuff you’ll be able to build with your Free Company, first of them being an actual house. And the second one is an airship. I’m sure you want more information about the airships so I’ll delve a bit more into the details about that. With the building of the airship you’re not going to be picking from a list of available designs but building it from different parts. There will be four major parts which go into your Free Company ship. For example the engine, fuel tank, the body, and then the sail that propels you and each part will have different designs as well as different capabilities. If you pick a high capability engine that has good power and a fast speed when you send your Free Company out with that high capability engine to scout based on we’ve been calling a “sky map” it can go out quickly and return fast but it’s a gas guzzler. It takes up a lot fuel. So you then add on a very large fuel tank. But because it’s so huge you lose space to store your items. Considering those different parameters that come with different parts you’ll be discussing among your Free Company members to see which parts you would need to build your ideal airship. So that’s the first part of Free Company crafting in terms of an airship. At the start of Heavensward you’re not only able to have just one ship but you can actually build up to four ships. And those airships will be ranked. And depending on what your rank level is there will be different parts you can and cannot equip. At the start of Heavensward once you build your airship you’ll be able to send it out to scout, no passengers, just the ship goes out to try and scout. And then in a following patch you’ll then be able to board that ship and explore and find uncharted areas. And even beyond there’ll be capabilities to add combat capability so you can have sort of a battleship. So it’s going to be very major content that will become available throughout the 3.x patch series. Once you’re able to go out and explore and travel and find those different areas in the sky you may find that some of these areas may have Notorious hardcore monsters that you can’t beat and just end up defeated and having to have to come back. Or you may find that other Free Company have already visited and trashed it and made a mess of it. Or you may end up finding a land where you can find really rare gathering items, materials that you can harvest. So there will be a lot of very interesting things you can look forward to in the 3.x series.

What happens when the higher ranked FC members decide to have an airship that's completely useless to members other than them (e.g. Battle Class if you're a gatherer)? I see a complete breakdown of the current situation unless they've held back that each FC member can send a ship on individual missions.

I think the intent was to get people into FC's.

However there will always be people who do not want to be in any FC because they are anti-social, or have had plenty of bad experiences from this game or other game's versions of guilds to last a lifetime.

Here's the thing, go look at Sword Art Online and then go look at Log Horizon. The former presents the "solo player in a world of guilds who are in competition with each other" while the latter presents "guilds working together"

Now if everyone could get along, most MMORPG's wouldn't need 10,000 guilds per server, only maybe 20. One per major job/class. Everyone wants to be the king of their own castle, so to speak. And many people in FFXIV did this just so they could get a house all to themselves initially.

So now we're presented with a case where only FC's can build airships. (Because presumably they will require "specialist" crafters to make the parts, and you can't specialize in every part needed, and the parts likely have to be created on-location.)

If you remember how much effort goes into making the Ixali airship, and it's pretty tiny, now multiply this by a ship that can carry dozens of people. We do not yet know how big such ships are going to be.

I'm lucky that I'm in a decent FC but many aren't. Even the best FC will have a membership of the type who will see the airship as 'theirs' first and for use by the scrubs only when, and if, they are finished with it. It's the same that happens with gardening.

Again, to iterate, I'm in a good FC so am not predicting many/any issues but plenty other people aren't so lucky! Even if the use of the airship is rota based by the FC Leader picture the scenario for a member of those FCs with 500+ members!

I really hope they allow all housing to build ships, I don't care if it takes me longer!
