Starting outfit question

Just wondering if there's been word on them making them universal. I like the Miqo'te outfit, but was thinking of switching to Midlander.

No. It's race specific and is the only set that is exclusive to both race and gender so its fine as is but what we need is an option to dye them.

the starting outfits will be able to be worn by other races at the same time a BLM will be able to wear the DRG AF armor.
Which is to say, never.

Race, Gender, and Class restrictions need to go. There is no logical reason why a Lalafell can't wear the Roe racial gear or a Miqo'te can't wear the Hyur racial gear.
(I'm sure someone's going to say something about the size difference between Lalafell and Roe but that's what the weavers guild is for.)

You can also get all the different sets from same vendor that sells gysahal greens in each main city. So changing race doesn't exclude you from having a race/gender appropriate set.

There is the fact that miqo'te starter gear is their traditional attire but it being race exclusive is kind of debunked by Lightning wearing the set she was given.. unless she actually turns in to a miqo'te

I am no Final Fantasy expert, but I always believed that each Final Fantasy game played out in it's own world and were never really connected, just had alot of references between each others for fans to enjoy.

Personally, I think more gender and racial locked gear should be made, not less.
I enjoy seeing variety, and if a few sets of gear comes out and there's one obvious kickass one that looks much better than others, you can expect to rarely, if ever, see the other sets being worn. Rep your race harder and enjoy the things that's only for you!

They are, but supposedly now that whole thing with Lightning being able to wear the miqo'te gear in the last game she is in is because she received the outfit from a miqo'te during her questline on xiv XD so.. yay for kinda canon crossovers

According to this video that shows how to get the outfit, she gets it from some Chocobo girls, which indicates that Lightning herself did not get it with her back during the Lightning Returns event. Also the male voice say; "Well, you got your hands on a rare garb. The Miqo'te are a legendary race said to live in another realm." Since we know FFXIV exists we know it's true, but if we go In-character they don't and it's just a fairy tale. So that outfit could just be something someone made from hearing that said tale, like for cosplay.

But like I said, I am no FF master, FFXIV is the first FF game I've ever played.

Odd canon uncanon things >.> booo i liked it better when she got a set of clothes from the reporter because she was apperently interested in miqo'te culture. Ohwell...

All that being said i would not be opposed to female au ra getting to wear female elezen gear but at the same time the sets are unique to the different races for a reason, like how knowing why the au ra are coming to Eorzea in the storyline if you look at their wardrobe it is much more frayed and generally damaged looking than everyone elses because of the trip to Eorzea from Doma

Speaking of RSE (Race Specific Equipment) I wonder if they have any plans to add any more RSE like they did in XI. And yes I realize this isn't XI, before someone says it.

Would be nice to see some more RSE besides what we start out with.

I always thought it would be cool to use the RSE from FFXI here. Or have a quest similar to FFXI RSE quests. It has been a while since I've looked at FFXI but I'm pretty sure the human starting outfit showed which nation you were affiliated with. Be nice if the starting outfits in FFXIV did that too or have a spot to add a FC crest.

The thing is, there isn't really a gameplay need for FFXI-style RSE here though, given the fact racial stat differences aren't as pronounced in FFXIV. In FFXI, each race had a specific strength and weakness stat wise (such as tarutaru had the highest MP and INT but the lowest HP and defence), and thus RSE was a means to compensate for those weaknesses for those players who wanted to "think outside the, um, square" - the stats on each piece of RSE would have bonuses to the 'weak' stats of that race.

Continuing the taru example, tarutaru RSE had large boosts to HP and defence - humes however who had well balanced stats with no real weaknesses instead had RSE that also decreased a certain stat, meaning a hume character would need to wear the whole set to balance out the bonuses the gear gave. As stat differences between each race are trivial at best racial gear based on the FFXI version would just be a waste of time and resources.

As for wanting to wear one race's starting outfit on another, um, this kind of invalidates the whole point of calling it racial gear. Yes I admit some racial gear looks amazing, but really, it's racial equipment - it's meant to represent that race!

Dont do try on other race clothing. You will violently tear a hole in space and slowly destroy the world of Eorzea and its people by tearing its atoms to pieces one by one resulting in millions of years of agonizing and unspeakable pain.

I'm not necessarily asking to see XI's version of RSE. I'm looking for gear that distinguishes the races themselves.

The problem is, I wanted to keep my outfit and MAYBE switch to Midlander. So I'm already the race who's outfit I want. :p

Solution: make it that every race can wear the same starter set, but the look of the set change depending which race and gender wear it (see 1.0 underwears).


I find we need more race specific gears, not less. like a lv50 fur gear set for Miqo'te and scale gear set for Au Ra and pirate king set for Roegadyns

Meeeeh, I like that each race has their own gear and honestly, I would want it to stay that way as I feel like it helps add a nice extra bit of diversity between the races. If they did make it universal though, it wouldn't kill me so whatever. At the very least, just make it dyable.

Let's all be honest though, ya'll just want it universal because of the highlander & roe hempen sets :p j/k j/k

If Japanese people can wear Mexican attire, I don't see why gear should be restricted

edit: I'm Mexican btw and I'm in no way offended or upset that some other cultures likes our folklore, quite the opposite, everyone can be a mariachi if they want!

It'd be nice if we could get other race gear, honestly. Though I'd more hope for our racial gear to be dyable before I'd hope for us to be able to get one race's gear on another race. But I'm all for customization so if it was ever a thought, it'd be great!
