DEV Request: Red MAge with Gunblade.

In an interview Y leaked that red mage is his one his favorites. So I'm almost current Red mage is in the works and would love to see introduced in a future path as a melee dps.

Red mage and Samurai have been both heavily requested by players. I'm thinking we are getting Samurai in 4.0- i can wait since I have my dark knight ;).

Instead of a fencing weapon i think giving Gun blade to a Red mage would be awesome existing and excite a lot of people. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DEVS!! :)

I like the idea of a version of the Dancer job. I enjoyed it in Final Fantasy XI. However, with the lack of pure support jobs like some of the Everquest games have, Dancer would probably have to be a DPS/Support job like Bard and we already have that in game.

Actually in XI it's a pretty effective TP-based healer, which is probably the direction they'd go if they added it to FFXIV

Interesting... so instead of a regular fencer sword, you'd suggest for the Red Mage to have a gunblade, along with taking advantage of having a gunblade and possibly some skills revolving around the gunblade.

Personally, I'd rather that the Red Mage pick up and use a traditional fencer sword, but thinking about it, SE DID combine Archers and Bards into a single job role. (Much as some people seem to hate that) So... it's possible SE may combine gunblade warriors with the Red Mage, putting two into one role again.

Right now though, I'm content with just the 3 upcoming roles we're getting now. (DRK! WOO!) Though down the road, I REALLY want to see Dancer (as a healer role) be the next job down the road after these upcoming 3 roles. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the next role after these upcoming 3 would be some kind of spellcaster DPS role.

this is like the 6th red mage thread i have seen since 2.0 XD and the 4th gun blade :D

The issue with redmage that was brought up a while back by a 1.0 player was most redmage skills are used with Archaist.

as for gun blades, they would most likely be a class of there own, separate to red mage as a close fighting and ranged dps.

the devs won't add in this class more likely due to how it and archaist share the same move pool.

and for blue mage (just a in before) that was turned down due to difficulties on how it would be balanced.

I would honestly rather have a gunblade job be it's own thing. Not mixed in with redmage at all... but then again I don't like the way smn works so who know what we'll get.

I could actually seeing this work as something in a Garlean focused expansion. We all know Garleans use magitech, and gunblades are a very big part of the Garlean arsenal. So perhaps a gunblade weilding magitech user that has moderate abilities in WHM/BLM?

As long as RDM makes it into the game with it's signature look (that isn't completely botched like in LRFF13) i'm fine with any weapon they give it haha.

If red mage makes it into the game i'm sure it will be a DPS job with potentially interesting self buffs. Probably will be sort of like XI's RDM with enspell type attacks. But it would be per attack, essentially giving us the melee ravager attacks from 13 (flamestrike, sparkstrike, etc). Would work with any type of blade they give RDM. Pure speculation of course.

I just want RDM (and DNC too) really bad!

I'm almost 100% sure we are getting a red mage ......justn ot sure when..in a patch or til 4.0 and what weapons. I like the moves you mentioned from 13 but not sure if I will like it as much as fencing class.....seems kinda lame to me.... are there any fencers in ff14? Once I saw the Garlean empire use a gunblade... i was like we need to have this in the game. It would be a HUGE MISSED opportunity.. since ff14 seems to be an accumulation of previous loved ff titles.

I'd rather there be a proper gunblade class and a proper red mage. Not some love-child of the two. Red Mage is a standard FF job after all.

think we have enough fightin classes atm.. id prefer some more crafting/gathering classes :P

But would it make sense for red mage to have a gunblade in XIV? Red mage is generally known as a job that can use both white and black magic, as well as being fairly proficient with a sword. And while i'm not against or for giving rdm a gunblade (devs choice, i just want rdm), a gunblade isn't exactly a great fit for rdm in my opinion.

A gunblade job would most likely be it's own standalone job with non magic based skills, the skills would more than likely be centered around the use of a gunblade up close and from afar (depending on type,dunno if close only or can do both), whereas red mage would be more around the use of magical and physical abilities (depending on how the devs choose to make the job)..

Gunblade was already confirmed (a long time ago) that the job that has it would be centered in Garlemald. We'd have to go to the Empire's homeland to even partake in using the weapon.

RDM would be cool, but it would be alot different from ts ffxi counterpart. No way would that work in ffxiv. FFXI was awesome but everyone knows the balancing in that game was atrocious lol.

Isn't part of the reason people like RDM for the flashing fencing moves?

Eh, idk..You can't really (lore-wise) say RDM is the only Gunblade wielding class/job, as we have Gun-shield, Gun-lance, gun-blade, gun-fists, and gun-hammer/axe in the game already. To make a class where they are the only ones wielding a gun-type kinda breaks that. Now if all those gun-type weapons could appear in the game as well as introduce the RDM...okay! (and technically the RDM would probably get a gun-rapier).

Now I do support adding RDM to the game, although I feel it is already coming.

RDM (melee magic DPS)
SAM (counter-attack tank)
DNC (melee healer)

Mechanically DNC was all over the place, so that's not entirely accurate. It may have had abilities that were heals that consumed TP, but it was nowhere near an actual healer. It did have a relatively easy time staying alive and soloing things because its heals couldn't be interrupted, access to Utsusemi through /NIN plus their naturally high dodge.

And consider me part of the fencing sword camp. Gunblades don't really fit RDM. Now if they were to introduce a new job centered on a gunblade I guess that could work.

Idk about that "DNC isn't always a healer" statement. I mean I pretty much was the healer in both merit parties, abyssea parties, and other endgame content. Also they were much better when you went DNC/SAM. It gave you power and better ways to keep your TP up for healing, and since they got their own stacks of Dual Wield trait /NIN was kinda pointless save for Utsusemi: Ichi/Ni which DNC really didn't need that much, unless you were soloing. If you have to classify it into a role, it would be considered a Support healer akin to SCH in game.

DNC was severely limited by recast timers. So on the one hand they could heal without fear of being interrupted, but could not do it at the frequency that is required from a healer in a party setting.

Chances are we wouldn't have that issue here since the developer philosophy for abilities is that abilities are only limited by the GCD.

In that case, make the fencing rapier the weapon of Rune Fencer.

Give RDM a gun-rapier, but not a gun-blade

DNC was pretty much the dps version of brd(not as good) in xi. they could heal yes, but they could also buff the party with attack speed ect. they didnt have a duel wield trait, if i can recall they did need to sub nin for it
