When aee paladins going to get an aoe attack similar to glory slash?
Honestly... they probably won't. Circle of Scorn is an awesome AOE, it's just a shame it takes till level 50 to get it. I'm hoping they'll get more party cover abilities, like a group version of vengeance. At that point I'd almost want my party to pull hate just to get that extra bit of damage going.
But if they did I certainly wouldn't be against it.
To be honest, we don't Need one.
Warrior and Paladin do not Need (and should not) to be the same in everything and right now the only class better then Paladin when it Comes to generating hate on multiple Targets is Warrior (and thats ok).
Flash an CoS is enough for us we can easily hold aggro for groups.
I would rather have a finishing skill for riot blade as well as some defensif buffs for the whole Party similiar to cover. And if I understand the Benchmark Video that is what we get (at least I hope so).
I wouldn't be against it to give PLDs a damage reflect on block passive.
With a PLD tanking, you don't have as much aoe damage as WAR, which is fine, but if PLDs would reflect like 50 potency per block, it could make up some of the difference without taking away the WAR's advantage in aoe dps.
It would also give some use for high block rate(small) shields, a PLD could whip out a small shield for packs of mobs to rack up reflect damage, and then switch to a heavy shield for bosses. As right now, small shields are objectively worse.
Missing v.1.0-1.21 Gladiator/Paladin Skills:
Aegis Boon - Blocks the next incoming attack and grants HP in proportion to damage taken.
Phalanx - Delivers a melee attack. Can only be used immediately after blocking an attack.
Goring Blade - Delivers a melee attack. Chance to inflict a bleed effect when executed from behind the target. (Savage Blade Combo)
Flat Blade - Delivers a melee attack. Double enmity. (Fast Blade Combo)
Out Maneuver - Blocks made while Outmaneuver is active restore MP.
War Drum - Delivers a melee attack with your shield to nearby enemies. Generates massive enmity. Can only be used immediately after blocking an attack.
Divine Veil - Cure and Cura (Medica) spells cast on you by other players grant a healing over time effect to all party members within range.
Holy Succor - Restores HP of target. When cast on another player, you also heal 50% of the amount restored.
You might see a few of these skills again with the new level cap and additional abilities.
I wonder how they plan on making these jobs more playable with a game pad. It's already a challenge to play a tank class with a game pad. Adding more abilities will make it even worse. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of new stuff. I just dread trying to manage it all.
There will be a few added abilities between 51 and 60. Some are easy for the devs to do. Enhanced Whatever. But, they'll need to add actual abilities as well. I'm curious what they'll be and how they will be utilized.
I think Pld is very pad friendly currently. I keep two palettes for dungeons, one has a marker, riot blade for group pulls with those swapped out for fight or flight and shield swipe for single targets. There's a third palette with stuff I don't use very often like hallowed ground and the oath commands.
Having tanked for about 6 years in another MMORPG, I can say I miss having a Charge (similar to the MNK ability). It would be very useful to close in on adds that require our immediate attention, even in situations where they need to be silenced or stunned, and the PLD is the only one in the group who can do it.
And also, being that the PLD is the more "party utility" specced tank, having a sort of a party-wide "magic resistance" shield that would perhaps reflect said damage would be a really cool ability to play with, though, I would not scoff at the idea of having some sort of personal reflective ability either ;)
Often, the inherent abilities of PLD and WAR are compared and judged as better or worse, but I would like to point at the fact that such differences are in place to offer flexibility and different play styles. I leveled them both, and I get to choose which I am using for a given situation
With a 10-level increase, I do anticipate 4 new abilities, does anyone else?
Because I play on a PS4 with the controller, I had the idea of connecting a cheap usb keyboard to it so I can type in chat.
By keeping all my offensive abilities + minor cooldowns & marker (1) on a single cross bar, and keybinding all my major cooldowns to the Num keypad while keeping them on a vertical hotbar on the side of my screen, allows me to monitor my cooldown timers at a glance, rather than having to switch crossbars to do so. I find this very helpful, especially during progression raiding where your attention to mechanics is required, and your reactivity to the encounter is not yet second-nature ;)
