I've been away from the game for almost a year, about a month before Nvus stage of relic weapons got released. I was wondering what kind of gear people use for spiritbonding nowadays? Is there any new Spiritbonding equipment?
There are 2 primary types to spiritbond these days: 1, Ilvl 70, almost exclusively Gryphonskin accessories and armor sets (these are cheapest), these are bonded in T4 but can be done in dungeons such as Brayflox, Lost City and Halatali. 2: Ilvl 42-49, anything really especially HQ, these are done often times in Urths Gift in South Shroud, or, they can be done in Castrum. Some Ilvl 90 items are done too, but these take longer and require at least 1 hour to SB, and cost double what the Ilvl 70 items do, usually.
There are some good fate parties in northern than to sb if you need seals or relic at the same time, made a mill in about a week from there.
Sadly in the Chaos server cluster, you can be waiting for 10 minutes as a tank or a healer to get into a T4 group, then you're in there for approx 5 minutes and you get, what is it, 7-10% SB? If you make a farm party it will go faster, or if you join a Light farming party for it, that's a good option too, but if you play solo and use DF's, it can easily take an hour.
It's more like 30-50% per run in T4, depending on how much materia is on your gear.
I read this and thought "am I wrong? damn" So I went and tested it. Using an ilvl 90 Saurian Belt of Healing my SB rates are as follows:
HQ belt, no melds, no buffs = 8% SB
HQ belt, 1 meld, No buffs = 10%
HQ belt, 1 meld 1 SB potion = 10%
HQ belt, 2 melds 1 SB potion = 11%
Now, on the surface it looks like a meld adds 2% maybe 2.5% to a SB from a T4 run, the potion doesn't seem to add anything. How on earth are you getting 30-50% per run? If the +3 from the potion adds 0-0.5%, then 2 meteor rings will be adding 0-1%. Add 2%-2.5% for each of the other melds and at best I can get it up to 23% per run (assuming everything adds at least 0.5%), which means I'd be losing 2 slots to meteor rings and a hat slot for the crown with +SB on it (assuming the +SB rate even adds any SB % at all). I'm sorry to report that your numbers are completely incorrect, and whilst 20% per run would be good, the cost of over melding each item to have 5 materia on it and making ilvl 90 items to begin with, cuts into your profits (if you want to make money). For almost the exact same effort (approx 18% per run), ilvl 70 whilst a bit more of a gamble at only 30-35% or so IV chance, is still a better option because you can use those extra 3 slots.
Note: Ilvl 70 with materia in it doesn't seem to give more than 0.5% bonus so it's not worth using materia at all with that in T4, unless you use NQ items, then 1 materia brings it up to the same % SB rate as an unmelded HQ.
I was thinking it was on tier with the Snowcloak range of dungeon, must be ilvl70 that bonds that fast in there. Slap on 2 materia, and the 3 dungeons not ilvl110 capped, not in expert roulette get you about 50% per run.
Sadly it's on the same Tier as Halatali HM and Lost City. Which is why I said about an hour, or longer if you try it as DPS and get a nice 25 minute queue!
I SB i70 stuff in LotA. Q time is usually pretty short and you get decent soldiery as well...
I think T4 is below those two and Brayflox, the 3 after that (hullbreaker/tamtam/stone vigil) only gave about 8-10% HQ with 2 materia when I was unlocking them on my alt last week. And I don't think Brayflox touched my ilvl90 set.
ST is another good one for ilvl90, gets around 40% for HQ 2 materia.
I meant that T4 was on the same Tier as Halitali and Lost City. So worth doing for Ilvl 70 not 90 >.<
To recap all the great suggestions, are we saying:
* i42 - 49 Gear *
* Urth's Gift
* Castrum Meridium (I can attest to this, super fast)
* Praetorium
* i70 Gear *
* Turn 4
* Lost City of Amdapor
* Halatali (HM)
* Brayflox Longstop (HM)
* Labyrinth of the Ancients (CT1)
* i90 Gear *
* Syrcus Tower
* The Sunken Temple of Qarn (HM)
* Sastasha (HM)
* Snowcloak
Thanks!
A few good things to note when spiritbonding:
1. Melded materia increases your spiritbond rate. The more materia on an item, the faster it spiritbonds. Kind/grade of materia does not matter.
2. Spiritbond potions can now be bought off of the Markets and are still available from your GC. These also increase your spiritbond rate. *NOTE, these ware off when you die and need to be reapplied.
3. There are also items that you can equip to increase your spiritbond rate (listed from easiest to obtain):
-Patriot's Bracelet, Spiritbond +1 (obtained from GC)
-Patriot's Choker, Spiritbond +1 (obtained from GC)
-Meteor Survivor Ring, Spiritbond +3 (obtained from quest ) ALSO, a second can be purchased from the Calamity Salvager so you can have 2 equipped at once - giving you Spiritbond +6.
-Gambler's Crown, Spiritbond +1 (obtained from Achievement: affixing 5 materia to a single item)
-There are also accessories (Ring, Bracelet and Earring) that you can obtain for doing certain achievements for your GC. Example: 500 supply missions, 200 provisioning missions, 500 levequests.
Hope this helps !
I did a test on various item levels NQ/HQ with and without meld(s). with all Spirit Bonding item gain and potions.
I remember that Spiritbond +11 (total) reduced Number of Hippogryphs Lv.46 to SB Lv.44-49 item, by 3 to 8 kills to 100% SB.
IMO, I would only use the potion since it uses no slots (nothing to lose if nothing gained).. Instead of saving those 8 or 10 kills.. I could have equipped more items to SB, thus 5 more materia just to kill an extra handful of mobs.
Unless by now SE did tweak how the (Spiritbond +) helps SBing items.
Edit:
I recall that the Spiritbond+ makes lower items SB faster, so they are more useful for lower level items. But definetly not the Lv.48-49 Accs I was SBing.
Spiritbond potion/gear are only useful on stuff that bonds slow due to being higher level than the stuff you are killing, eg ilvl55 at urths. If they are helpful, you are doing the wrong gear or the wrong area.
They raise by a set number, not a percentage. Imagine doing 10 extra damage each attack when you are doing 50 damage per attack, vs 1000 damage per attack. 20% boost vs 1% boost.
Those items that increase the spiritbond rates aren't always useful. The problem is you lose 1 or more item slots to gain very little. For example, ilvl 70 in T4 takes 5 full runs and the first, sometimes second wave of mobs in a 6th run. That's 10 pieces of materia (minus weapon) in 6 runs. Using +3 SB from a meteor ring might but not always, allow you to SB within 5 runs, that's 9 items and all you're saving is 4-6 minutes, add in another ring and now it's 8 items but you're still doing 5 full runs, add in another 2-3 items and you're dropping your materia potential and still doing 5 full runs. These items are also dropping your ilvl and hampering your DPS, tanking ability or healing ability. These items are only really useful outside of dungeons.
A note on SB potions: These wear off if you use any other buff potion (X-Pots et cetera).
Ilvl 90 SB's in Qarn HM, Sastasha HM and Snowcloak HM.
Thanks Darra!
In my world ungatherable materials for 1 item of i90 gear costs less than 10K on the market. This is the most cost effective variant. Materials for i70 gear item costs 25-30K, demimateria for i90 accessories costs more than 30K. So, i SB i90 gear only an use accessory slots to buff sb-ing (2 meteor survival rings) and to buff my class stats by jewel from my main gear set.
The best is to kill mobs 10 lvl above the gear level. Fighting watersprites is the best to spiritbind i40 items. To spiritbind an i46/49 set, castrum is by far the best indeed. The mobs there are level 56.
