How big of an advantage will it be to have the zeta weapon in regard to the new relic quest?
Is there any news already?
I was reading in other forums that's it's good to around level 55. At which point it's replaced, also I hear its not involved at all in the quest line (need confirm)
No news yet.
Odds are, and this is just speculation... but your only advantage to already having your Zeta done is that you will be able to use your Zeta as a base for the new relic, instead of need a crafted base for the new relic. If you don't have a Zeta (or potentially just a relic at any stage) then you'll need a new crafted base weapon or something for the new Weapon Quest Line. Again just speculation.
There's only guessing sofar, no real information from reliable sources.
So far I've read (all from peoples quessing) that it might range from just an achivement and title to a headstart in the new Relic weapon questline.
They're supposedly going to nerf the existing relic quests in 3.0 so that people can grind them more easily for glamour. But it does seem weird that the base relics are freely available from the Calamity Salvager but none of the other steps are - maybe because they don't come as actual quest rewards per se, or (more likely) oversight/laziness on the part of the developers...
I'm aware, but unless they nerfed it to less than 10 hours it would still be a hassle (and I know I wouldn't really like having a weapon that took me 100+ hours nerfed down that badly, but that's for another thread). I would assume they could have a system in place so that something triggers the Salvager to sell that item after completing the step's quest, so it's probably more on the oversight/laziness side.
Not that this has any bearing on the topic here, but I actually glamoured over the relic. Someone actually commented as to why I have the Novus shield and not the sword. Obviously didn't use the "examine" function. The Curtana just looked way too big for my character. Thing was almost clipping into the ground when I walked with it sheathed. Plus between the shield and the sword glowing was just a bit too much glowing for me. Since I'm lagging in the game about a year behind I'll probably have that thing for a little while. Almost got all the Alex to finally finish that part off. Probably still be doing it when 4.0 comes.
The pre-zodiac relics can look a bit over the top, but I find the Zodiacs/Zeta to look nice (Excalibur is still a bit too much for some). I finished up Novus to Zeta during term break though, I had a lot of time but even if you split that up moderately I don't think it'll take you until 4.0 unless you have some real bad luck.
Stuff like this is what prevents people from enjoying the game. "No matter what I do now is gonna be trashed in the expansion so might as well stop now or...just come back for the expansion". It is honestly a shame. Someone should really come up with a way to add new content without trashing peoples' progress, all this is doing is further frustrate and discourage the already overly tedious grind this game offers. Even though I'm still subscribed because SE is my favourite company and I have a lot of admiration for Yoshida and what his DEV team did for this game, I must admit I haven't even stepped on FFXIV for at least 2 months for this exact reason.
Current gear doesn't have to stay... current lol. But I rather like the idea of over the life of FFXIV my relic weapon would be the one weapon I keep by my side. It's just changed forms and grown more powerful. As was when it changed forms from Relic to Zodiac.
However that also creates a problem where you have people like me, who don't go out and raid for the dreadwyrm weapons or even get tome weapons since i know i can upgrade my current weapon to make it just as good as those if not better. which kind a puts all the devs time on those weapons to waste as i'll never use / own them due to my own personality lol.
A NIN in my raid group actually glamoured over his Sasuke Blades Zeta with Yoshimitsu Animus because he likes the color of the Animus glow better.
Yes.....yes that means he did the Atma/Animus stages a 2nd time to achieve this....
-.-
lol
edit: To actually contribute to the thread...I think that the "advantage" we will get is to use our Zeta as a base for our new weapons and inheriting the secondary skills that we added to them. If we don't at least get that, I'm not sure I will do another relic. Too much time/gil invested to watch it just get thrown away for more accuracy or skill speed...
It'll give you a .00005% increase on droprate on whatever ridiculous RNG grind they decide to implement.
/sarcasm
I've seen even worse...

Now that's dedication to glamour...
I agree if when the new relic comes out we don't get to use our zeta for a base and inherit our secondary stats I don't know if I will do another relic weapon. I would hate to see my work on my smn weapon get trashed and my secondary stats revert back to spell speed and acc.
All we know is that those who have finished their relic will be "taken into consideration", which could literally mean anything, including a complimentary set of pink dye or the title "Grind Master". People keep using the word "advantage", even though the developers haven't used that term themselves. "Advantage" and "taken into consideration" can have quite different meanings.
Knowing SE's love of such items, they'll probably just offer relic owners the option to trade in their zeta weapon for a display-weapon to mount on the wall of the house you'll never own.
Yup! :( I'm personally a fan of more horizontal progression myself. I loved XI for letting us build crazy gear sets for various situations, and letting us expand on what we already had vs. constantly having to replace FULL sets of gear every few months. It was rough on the inventory, but it just felt so much more detailed and fleshed out. Of course there were some rare items to work towards, but it was nice knowing you could devote your time to getting it, and it wouldn't a complete waste when the latest xpac hits.
i'm hoping that stats can transfer over and maybe give a bonus stat like the GC equipment. Since new jobs wont have the old relic weapon we can throw out the last idea. :'/
If the current Relic line is completely replaced and irrelevant in 3.0 I'll be very upset. I could have spent all those allied seals on GC equip for glamor, rather than F****** Alexandrite.
It's said that ilvl 130 will be relevant up to lvl 55. But don't worry, people with Zeta will get compensated. But how we don't know. But most likely (my personal guess) it will give a headstart in the new 3.1 relic questline.
Since the day I learned that the new jobs won't even have a 2.x relic I stopped with my relic and am now waiting for the Dark Knight which will most likely replace my WAR as a main.
I can't imagine any of the current weapons will be relevant at 60. At most they will be decent for leveling.
I'm with the people that think we should keep out secondary stats. I think the new relics should have decent secondary stats but if you took the time and Gil to max out a two stat relic, you should be able to keep those so our relics continue to be BiS.
I honestly do not see the taken into consideration to be much really, and there will be many angry players like myself that will not bother with Relics anymore should it be the case.
Just look at how the Relic quests had been before atma drop rate increases, light boosts, etc.
I think that those who decided to wait until 3.0 will be not too far behind those who have Zeta already tbh, as the questline will probably be made easier yet again,
so with that said i will not finish my Nin Novus i think, lol
imo the consideration/advantage isnt gonna be great it could be somethin as simple as a title or minion of the zeta weapon we have/choose theres no way its gonna be somethin signifcant cause all those people who didnt bother working on relics in 2.0 will spam rage threads in forums lol
Well they had from launch all the way till expansion to get a zeta. thats about a year and a half to get a zeta? Heck even if new players started right now they can probably get a zeta before expansion. IMO there IS no excuse to not having or being able to get one at this point. Especially with atma drop rates increased and light gained increase.
The players that completed this quest when it was relevant should get something exclusive for putting in the time/effort/rngesus luck it took to get one of these pre-3.0 nerf. (and I have not completed the questline, but still think they deserve something) Maybe your character can have a toggle on/off glow or something like that. Or maybe take away the <Z> achievement title from attaining the weapon post 3.0 so that it is exclusive to those players that completed it in 2.0.
That's likely, considering that retainers are classes only and relics/zodiacs can only be worn by jobs...Quote:
He would...he made a zeta for one of his retainers....
