Haha! Actually, I kinda assumed that quite a number will pop their Fantasia again after a while to revert to their original/different race. A lot of people I know are just gonna be an Au Ra for novelty's sake, but not permanently. :) The survey doesn't really allow us to state that, though. :P
And that's why they should add more features to the other races so people can stick to them, such as beards or a body adjustment tool (muscle sizes and maybe body hair, scales, etc.. depends on the race). Everyone wants something new and cool, and bored with the current races.
Dragon baby boom
I'm expecting the Au Ra hype to die down before long, and then their number will settle somewhere around where Miqo'te and Hyur are.
Nice to see Lalafells are among those most loyal to their race. Though, I'm very surprised to see Roegadyn topping the list. That might be due to the significantly smaller number of people who are playing Roes though. At least, among those who voted.
I might consider some minor changes with a fantasia, but I'm staying elezen. :). I love the uniqueness, and the being tall.
Oh wow I am in the 7% of current race. Wow. Well I am going man dragon to try it out.
I'm sure after 3 months the race breakup will look much different from what people are planning for at launch of Heavensward.
lot of cat become dragon....
I think I should mention that they aren't (as of this posting) demon origin. It was also said their dragon origin is questionable and their [tribal decoration] follows a demon motif (like face paint on Miqo'te), and explains the "horns" in certain hairstyles. It was never said they are demon origin.
I would like to see links that argue this, as what I understand may differ. I'm very perceptive, though.
I don't plan to change my race, still making an Au Ra Alt though.
Aww the Elezen and Roe numbers compared to everyone else >.<
Those numbers make no sense... 40% of people changing and yet 51% Auri. 11% of people lied on one of the two questions.
I think once the dust settles and the novelty wears off, Au Ra and Miqo'te will be similar in popularity, which is a good thing I think. Though I love Miqo'te, they are overwhelmingly popular and I think it is great that they are adding a race with enough appeal to help balance out the population, so to speak. :)
As for the discrepancy in the poll, some of it may also have to do with the "unsure" people voting on the last question.
If they'd made the female Au Ra more like the male, I'd probably consider changing, but as it is, they look too dainty for my tastes, going to stay femroe.
Lalafell forever!
I don't like how the horns are coupled with the face. That should have been a separate option.
It depends on how they understood the questions, as for everyone who said they wouldn't change the last question is obsolete. Some may have looked at the last one as "if you were going to change which race will you be for 3.0 and beyond" That would explain that discrepancy.
Not surprising that a lot of Miqo'te will change. What would put me off Au'Ra is the bandwagon. I wasn't gonna change until I saw the character creator, but I don't just want to jump on the bandwagon.
One thing to keep in mind about this poll is that it captures only a very small contingent of the total active player base. Although I'm sure we'll see quite a large surge of Au Ra at the beginning of the expansion it'll surely taper off to some degree after a few months.
On a side note, I'm curious to see what the gender split of Au Ra will be.
That's very true.
Honestly you shouldn't not do something just because a lot of others are doing it. Just like you shouldn't do something just because a lot of others are doing it. Personally I'll be changing to Male Auri. I didn't expect to like them as much as I do.
I feared this, everyone si going to be a Castani... *ejem* Au Ra when the expansion comes, I'm guilty of wanting to change to the new race too, but I actually like my Miqo a lot so I'm still not 100% sure if I'll change.
They aren't demons nor dragons. They are a completely, independent race. they are modeled AFTER demons though, much how Miqo'te are modeled after cats, but aren't cats themselves.

Aura are not related to Dragons. Their motif are demons.
I'm a Miqo. My character's a Miqo. Been a Miqo since launch.
Also an Elezen. My other character's an Elezen. Been an Elezen before launch.
I haven't changed either, because I can't bring myself to it - they are what they are, I am what I am. Would feel bad if I forced it. And I'm pretty sure they would feel bad too. Yeah, Au Ra is gonna be the shiny new toy.... but so what? That in itself does not justify changing, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sure I'll make an Au'ra but it's hard for me to imagine Gale as anything other than a Duskwight.
They were modeled after dragons. But they aren't a dragon.

Au Ra looks great except for the scales, i dont like them at all so ima have to NYA! my way thru Heavensward.
I guess what is like what do you like better cats or dragons. If you have to pick between miqote or au ra
I am definitely staying Mi Qo, didnt like the aura at all. -_-
I'll admit that I am a bit tempted to switch Ganth to Au Ra, but then, he would be quite different from the inspiration I drew from. But, I think I'm going to keep him as a man kitteh for now. My Hyur, on the other hand, is being changed to Au Ra.
The reddit post is part of the problem. Either the full statement wasn't translated entirely/accurately or the poster is withholding information to make the post brief. From all information I've come across on several fields tell me this:
・Au Ra are believed to be decedents of dragons (lack of further information - horns and tail, and out-racial unfamiliarity fearing this races appearance to be something they are familiar with; dragons).
・Scholars dispute this due to: Dissimilar hearing (dragons hear from their ears, not horns) & reverse height development (Female dragons are commonly larger than males, a trait inspired from dinosaur research)
・Au Ra clans don a "tribal warpaint" in a "...their motif are demons." This would explain the horns in some hairstyles, limbal ring may be artificial. Living in mist environments might have influenced a demon lifestyle over a dragon one.
Overall, I personally don't want to say they are either or, but I'm hoping lore will reveal who these people really are.
It just better not be a Padjal thing.
