My monk parse sucks for what my gear is. Someone help me twT

I can't get anyone on my server to help me cuz apparently I don't know any monks. I am parsing between 500-520 on a practice dummy without party buff. (These parses lasted 5 minutes (before TP starvation got too much and I had to stop) hitting the practice dummy and I did 4 attempts, getting the same results each time. During those 5 minutes I had my parse on screen watching the fluctuations in DPS, not just the DPS displayed at the very end of the parse)

Yes I know my positionals and hit them all every single time.
Yes I am hitting my GCDs immediately without delay.
Yes I am using my DoTs. I stated that already but it must have been ignored.

All standard monk things up like fist of fire.

PB opener: SP, IR, SP, B4B, Demo, DK, Twin, Steel Peak, Howling Fist, ToD

Rotation afterwards: Boot, True, SP, DK, Twin, Demo, Boot, True, SP, DK, Twin, SP, Boot, True, SP, DK, Twin, Demo.

I am using all of my abilities immediately with no delays. I am using B4B whenever it's up and IR whenever it's up. Sometimes I wait to use Demo and refresh ToD if B4B will be off CD in a second or 2.

If you have any questions please ask. I seriously have no one to help me and I can't figure out anything I could be doing wrong because my friend parsed 550 on a practice dummy with less superior gear than me... almost all i110 with some i130 and i115 weapon. (My Relic is i115 btw). I ask him what he did "I don't know lol..." great friends really. So maybe you guys can help me TwT

There's probably better rotations out there, but this is what I normally do for any opening:

Shoulder Tackle(I mean 9/10 you'll be far enough anyway. Free damage) > ToD(Want to do it earlier rather than later) > PB >
Demolish(Same reason as ToD) > SP > IR + Howling > SP > BfB + Steel Peak > SP > SP

For starting rotation after PB:

DK(Keep in mind, you are out of form, but potency is stronger than Bootshine) > Twin> SP > DK > True > Demolish > ToD

and pretty much go from there. This is basic stuff, though I'd only hit 560-570 on dummies without any party buffs or meds/foods. But yes..Like I said, there may be a better rotation out there. Just something I do a lot.

Edit: Looking at my rotation, could definitely move IR + Howling right after Demolish. Give the last Snap an extra kick. Spiffy. o:

Monks don't generally talk about 5 minute parses because they'll run out of TP going solo.

Umm I use invigorate every time it's up as long as I have 600 TP or less and TP isn't generally an issue for me. This reply doesn't do anything to help me figure out my problem. I wouldn't waste my time posting here if I was bull shitting you all with the information I gave.

All melee DPS run out of TP and start losing DPS quite fast after 4 minutes, MNK is by far the first one to run out. If you're not running out of TP by 5 minutes, you're either not using your DoTs at all or not hitting your GCDs in time.

I said my parses lasted 5 minutes. I stopped the parse after 5 minutes due to TP starvation. During those 5 minutes I had my parse on screen watching the fluctuations in DPS, not just the DPS displayed at the very end of the parse. The person seemed to imply that I couldn't make a 5 minute parse because I'd be out of TP beforehand, which I was not due to hitting invigorate every time I had it up.

Would it be possible for me to get some advice from other monks such as the advice Lorielle said? I am not failing to do higher DPS because I'm not hitting my GCDs or DoTs. I am not so retarded as to go posting on a forum asking for DPS help when my problem is because I'm not pushing buttons fast enough. I've edited my post to include most specific details for those who are assuming I am making unfathomably dumb mistakes.

Depending on your Invigorate timing and your skill speed you can actually extend your rotations beyond 5 minutes without becoming completely TP starved (though I will say the farther you go past 5 the closer you will get to rock bottom unless you have pretty low skill speed) which might mean that part of your "low" parse is due to low skill speed although your stats seem fine (a primary Monk would know what ideal SS is better than I do) or possibly where you throw in BfB, as at least on Drg you try and get BfB up so it affects your DoTs which can be a massive increase in damage. I pulled hate with just DoTs in t10 before because the tank focused too much on the Daughter and didn't work the Son a bit.

Also, weapon damage significantly affects DPS, so if you upgrade to say, Zodiac or Zeta, your numbers should go up quite a bit as well.

Something else I've noticed(also Bloody mentioned). Skill Speed sits at 409. Which I think may hit about 2.08 or 2.09 GCD. Personally I found that a "Sweet Spot" for Skill Speed is something along the lines of 425-440. This puts GCD down to 2.05-2.06. Not too slow, but not too fast. It's important to find a balance too. Too much SS will leave your attacks no power, but quick. This is good for short fights, but dreadful for long ones. As the verse is good in a sense of long fights, but your DPS overall will be slightly lower compared to the ones balanced.

Post your parse data or a video of you doing your rotation.

Hard to help you when you think every question is trying to imply that you're lying and you've said you're doing the standard rotation. Very little information to go on.

5 minutes? I know it's been mentioned here before and you don't actually seem to react too kindly to people that mention it but that's a really long time to be going on monk. Also for a 115 weapon your dps seems okay to me. It's really hard to say anything without actually seeing a video or something.

edit: I believe you should wait with popping your buffs until you get your 3 stacks but I don't know if that will bump your dps by large amounts

You're supposed to be feeling the pain shortly after the 4-minute mark with that level of skill speed. Maybe my statement came off a bit blunt, but it wasn't meant that way and I don't feel it warrants this attitude regardless.

I'm actually taking you at your word that it's taking you 5 minutes to dump your TP, and that's a thing that shouldn't be happening. If true, it will prevent you from getting a useful point of reference from other monks. If you are mistaken and you're actually doing a 4-minute parse, best I can say is 510 at i122 with i115 weapon doesn't sound unreasonable and 550 at i11x does with i115 weapon does.

Maybe the way you speak to people is why no-one on your server wants to help you

520 ist perfectly fine for your gear. You have three i120 left side pieces and a i115 wep, this is where your damage comes from. Once you got your i135 weapon and full i130 (or properly melded i110 crafted if you can/want to afford it) left side pieces you will be at around 600 dps from gear upgrades alone, with the 20 ilvl jump on the weapon making the biggest difference. Partybuff/food/pots would then bring you in the 620-630+ range where BiS monks are parsing on average these days (all high end parses are with alle these buffs basically).

If anything, like already mentioned, your i11x mnk friend was either bullshitting you, using FFXIVAPP instead of ACT (lol) or had the crit rng of his life. Let him do twenty 4-minute-parses without any buffs on ACT and compare the average to your numbers, it will be significantly lower.

My Eyes!
On a serious note, why use snap so many times instead of getting twin snakes/DK up?

Tackle > PB> Snap > Snap (BfB) > Demo (IR) > DK > Twin (X-Pot) > ToD (Howling) > Boot (Steel Peak) > True > Snap > DK > Twin > Demo > (X-Pot and BfB wear off), go from there with standard rotation, keeping buffs, debuffs and dots up.

That gives you 2 fully buffed demolishes, fully buffed peak/howling fist and a fully buffed ToD in your opener.

Edit: DK is not more potency than boot. It is equal potency on the flank, and 50 less from any other position.

Might stem from the fact that until 2.2 or whatever Bootshine was 130 potency.

This, weapon damage is REALLY relevant for monk, your gear sure makes an impact, but the weapon makes more impact increasing your damage, and it's really outdated weapon.

You gotta get dk and twin up sooner

Hmm I'm not sure, but Det really affects your DMG output. And the way you reply people is just so unfriendly maybe that's why your "great friend" don't bother helping you

My parse is about 499-503

My opener (standard opener without caring about SS, but can add few more BS if ss allows)
Tackle>PB>SP(IR)>SP(BFB)>DEMO>TWIN>DK(Steal)>SP>BS
I dont use any pots for parsing so i dont know my max dps with pots

PS I also wanna note that Opener can defer slightly if you have higher or lower ss MNK dont have a standard opener

Increase you gear to 130, you won't be doing to much more with a 115 weapon.

Kind of weird op posts asking for help then responds in such a hostile tone to everyone taking time out of their day to respond.

Weapon ilvl affects the most. I can do 540 with i108 drg with i135 weapon over 3 minutes, but when I changed to i115 weapon with the same rotation, it drops to 460 (my main isn't a DRG, so my dps was terrible LOL)

Man seeing such high numbers and I thought 420-430 I parse was good. Guess I should try other jobs.

Are you using a controller?

I play on PC and use a controller. Until recently I'd fight without locking on to the enemy, because nothing felt more awkward and stiff than using that function, backpedaling and terrible camera angles and all.

While I still parsed decently, I was still quite below the 600+ DPS threshold, even on a training dummy at i128 with zeta. I also figured that while running around to hit positionals, I'd just spam my next GCD button with 'automatically face stuff when ya hit buttons' selected so I wouldn't miss auto-attacks, but it seems that doesn't work so well.

A few days ago I tested to see if locking on would change anything, and suddenly my numbers started looking a lot more like they should - 600-610.

Maybe this can help.

ok first of all try with party buff (go to summerford farms summon your companion and try it then) second read up on openers in the monk thread opener doesnt make or break a 5 min parse but it is 1-2% none the less. also if you are holding out for 5 min then sry but you doing something wrong i main monk and holding out for 3-4 min is hard enough so i do not know how you hold out for 5 xD i know its a big thread but reading up on it will help you out.
my opener for reference is
Shoulder tackle--> ToD--> PB-->Demo-->ppp-->SP-->SP-->BfB--->DK-->IR-->TS-->X-pot-->booth-->true-->Demo-->Fracture(memo1)-->DK-->TS-->SP-->ToD(memo nr2)-->lalalalala xD

Memo1. if you dont want to dont use fracture at all and if you have enough SS and fight didnt requier any doging in the first few seconds... then use fracture before Demo otherwise you clip demo at +-3 seconds if you use fracture before demo it should be cliped at around 1 second.

Memo2. use TOD on last 2-3 sec of pot and bfb i should be on that stage of the rotation maybe 1 skill earlier dont remember.

I understand the OP's frustration with this issue--a perceived lower than average DPS parse can be very confusing and discouraging.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult for anyone to provide solid advice that is specific enough to satisfy your needs without a real demonstration of exactly what you're doing. Like many others have said, we need a demo of your rotation and execution.

After having gone through the posts here however, I trust that you do know what you are doing. But only one thing puzzles me and that is the length of your parses.

From personal experience and numerous parses, my MNK lasts exactly 4:16 at 388 SS. Like you, my invigorates are on time and by the time I'm running rock bottom dry on TP, my third Invigorate is only halfway through its cooldown and I have to delay my GCDs as I wait for my next tick of TP regeneration. At this point it is natural to stop the parse. For you to go 5 whole minutes is catastrophic for your DPS (without goad). This is the only point where I can discern anything you might doing wrong. You said that your actions per minute are adequate and you are queuing commands as appropriate. If this is true, and your connection speed is average, you should be absolutely drained, dry, depleted, what have you, of ALL TP shortly after the 4 minute mark, else wise something, and not necessarily you yourself, is fundamentally wrong.

Give us a video or ask someone you know to record you so we can help.

My first question: Are you on PS4.

Why does PS4 matter?
Gee, I wish I knew. I'm doing Monk just fine and I could barely scratch 500 DPS in T10, T11 and T12(Before the echo, because screw echo.)

i130, i135 WEP
660 STR
439 CRIT
414 DET
375 SPEED
do I barely hit 500 DPS. What am I doing wrong?

Some friends say it's because I'm PS4, my controller offers latency. But as you, I press my skills before the GCD is even ready to reset. And yes I am nailing positions perfectly, it's a bloody bad habit at this point.

Yes, I do fit ALL of this^ within a single PB. How I do this is simply using PB just as my GCD resets after TOD.

My skill speed is 375. I wanted to lower my speed to 360 but I absolutely need to bump it to 375 to accomplish this.
Spoiler: I hate Skill Speed.

Also, if your using a controller you may want to lock on while moving positions so you lose less auto attack dps
