Limit Break discussion/theories

Yoshi said each job would be getting their own limit breaks in 3.0 with certain classes inheriting the current ones:

WAR- Defender
MNK- Final Heaven
DRG- Holy Breath/Super Jump
BRD- Getting Ranged Limit breaks, so maybe Piercing Shot/Sidewinder/Empyreal Arrow
PLD- Probably inherent current LB3
BLM- Inheriting Meteor obviously
SMN- Megaflare! :D
SCH- Embrava
WHM- Inherent Pulse of Life
NIN - Mijin Gakure, without the death, or one of their katana skills from FFXI

I think the SMN limit break is going to be something awful like some dark based attack. It won't be a summon since I imagine the jobs will still at least share with their class. It will probably be something arcane to go with arcanist.

We really need SMN LB to fit lyrics of Dethklok – Awaken with some adjustments.

My friend is really excited for Mijin Gakure, cuz he played ffxi

I wanna think that SMN will be something fun. SMN used to be the dev's baby in ffxi (so i hear) so I'm guessing it'll be a neat dmg attack. (this is all guessing and hoping cuz smn is really all i have atm T_T)

By this logic, a SCH would have a DPS limit break or at least the same as SMN. The LB's are being designed with the Job in mind, as stated before that BRD in particular was to get a DPS limit break, or DRG was getting it's own.

Finally, a Thaumaturge summoning Meteor doesn't make as much sense as a Black Mage doing so. Granted, this all doesn't matter since, in the end, a lvl 50 base class can still LB3. However, it would be insanely out of left field if SMN did in fact not get a Primal / Grand Summon LB3.

They could also have a separate LB3 for when a Base class uses it which could be similar to what we have now. Like THM / ACN share one, MRD and GLA share one, PUG and THF share one,
(ARC, CNJ,) - Have separate ones.

SCH is kind of an exceptional case considering it pulls so far away from the base class and is the only one of it's kind, arcanist isn't even on any of the scholar books, it's basically treated as a seperate entity. Unlike SMN who shares books with arcanist.

I don't see GLA and PLD having a seperate LB or LNC and DRG or any of the others. I don't really see what point you're trying to make with BRD getting its own LB, it's a DPS and yes I see it sharing it with ARC.

Even if they made the LB different for the job, you also have to consider the lore of SMN. If they made the LB anything primal related it would have to be ifrit. As he is the only primal you are guaranteed to have access to when you unlock SMN at 30. For it to be megaflare or zantetsuken or what have you. They'd have to lock your SMN LB until you beat Odin or Bahamut etc.

So I think SMN and ACN will share a LB and it will either be some dark magic or at best.. Summon carbuncle to use shining ruby..

Having SMN pop Ifrit onto the arena for a Megaflare for their LB3 would be amazing and I think most would agree it's a much-needed connection with the word "summoner". Right now they're glorified Pokémon trainers who happen to be brilliant at poisoning spells. :)

The WAR LB I think should be an enormous whirlwind that blows away all incoming damage for a few seconds - functionally the same as the PLD, but with a different visual.

I think by the current games path, lore has never been an inhibitor on what that can do. In particular, Grand Summon has been a big part of SMN lore across many Final Fantasy games, so whatever they choose to do with it, lore from the past or current wouldn't be an issue.

Didn't they also confirm that each job will have it's own unique LB? If SCH is to be this "exception" then by that same logic that it wouldn't follow it's base class, the LB of WHM and SCH is already confirmed to be different, thus they are being developed with the Jobs in mind not the class. This is also supported by THM. A THM who according to FFXIV lore, doesn't even know about the full extent of Black Magic being able to summon Meteor, one of the pinnacles of Black Magic? At current we already know Meteor didn't fit a SMN, and the devs felt the same way when they confirmed that the current LBs will be the individual LBs of particular classes (MNK - Final Heaven , BLM - Meteor, WHM - Pulse of Life, PLD - Last Bastion) , while the rest of the jobs were getting new ones that fit their class more appropriately.

If anything the most likely LB a SMN would get, is simply according to whatever Egi is in use, the Primal would convert to its full form and perform its Limit Break. All of those things are already in the client, nothing needs to be added, and it would be perfectly within the means of the lore, because we already tap into these primals powers to produce the egis.

I played FFXI for like 8 years and never remember SMN being SE's "baby". SMN in that game was always very niche and rarely wanted for end-game content. In parties, they were always forced into using whm as their sub job and playing as a crappy healer with a party buff and pet attack every 5 mins.

If you want to know who the real golden child was, it was Samurai.

Of all the jobs SMN is potentially the easiest to give a new LB as they simply need to have your currently summoned egi do it's signature astral flow ability from the primal trial. It would essentially just be a more powerful and much bigger version of the SMN Enkindle skill. If the SMN has no egi out at the time just have it default to Ifrit or Carbuncle or something. All the assets required to do this are already in game so it wouldn't take much work despite having the different variations. This would circumvent every problem you just described.

As for the class issue... I wouldn't be surprised if they simply make classes unable to use LB3 as there's no point before level 30 when a player would even get to use it anyway.

+1000 for SMN megaflare.

I don't want my dinky Egi to do it. I want bahamut to fly out of the moon and charge for 15 seconds.

I'd love to see my DRG sprout aetherial dragon wings during the cast time and then do an inferno like dragon fire dive.

I think it would be awesome to see bahamut for SMN LB. Job lore aside anyone starting the games knows bahamut is an elder primal, so I think it could work!

I also really hope healers get more then medica II with feathers, they just brought everyone back to life damnit!
