I request that SCH and SMN be disjoined from their ACN mothers hip. Hopefully the translated fixes for SMN in 3.0 includes it being seperated from SCH.
I think abilities only being learnt via job quests was their way of separating SMN and SCH, so no need to worry about that now.
Anyway, nope, do not want to see another fairy. We're not summoners and it goes against the lore of Lily. Would be nice if Eos and Selene maybe gained one more ability each though.
...Which lead to a whole lot of knock-on problems and is more or less why the class is as messy as it is. And sharing the class is SE's stated reason for not really buffing SMN last cycle.
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more abilities attached to SCH itself, but I'm never against more options in the form of fairies or whatnot.
I wouldn't mind an angel pet to compliment the faeries :D
Never considered the angle that smn got screwed because sch... Makes sense though. Current implementation of Bane is gross and complete garbage.
The issue is SMN and SCH share the same class ACN, which means SMN main aoe skill Bane has to be watered down.
I think an easy temp fix would have been to give SMN a trait that augmented Bane. Idk though, maybe the coding for class skills/spells doesn't allow for trait augmentation via jobs?
Anyway: SCH doesn't belong to ACN, SMN coming from ACN makes more sense given that ACN summons carby. I'm hoping 3.0 includes the solution to this class business. Maybe getting rid of classes is the only way, or give sch their own class, or make it independent from classes like the new jobs will be.
They get a job based aoe too. They could have made Tri-Disaster NOT absolute garbage. But I digress.
A new scholar pet would HAVE to be a carbuncle because of lily's lore. And we would need a reason to use it sometimes, but not so much that we never use a fairy anymore, or what is the point? I would rather we got more scholar actions and gave the fairies more skills, than adding a new pet altogether though.
In my opinion i'd quite like a 3rd fairy, maybe a super version of Eos that can do everything Eos does but also remove status effects and revive people. But then you would have to have a super Selene too :p
Lore is mutable and not a good reason for disallowing a third fairy. A little retcon or a new story chain and bam, new fairy. It's actually difficult to imagine that SCH would make it to 60 without a new summon or at least a new "aspect" of Lily.
Imagining a new fairy being desirable without overshadowing one of the existing ones, however, is a little difficult unless it's given a very specialized niche.
I would rather see a buff that would temporarily alter the appearance of the fairies. Have them transform into larger humanoid beings whilst enhancing their capabilities for a limited amount of time or until an "Ultimate" skill is used. The "Ultimate" skill could be a revive for EOS and a haste/slow AOE field that would be similar to Sacred Soil in size and use.
The transformation would consume 3 stacks of Aetherflow and the Ultimate skill costs nothing (since you've already used 3 stacks of Aetherflow).
It's ambitious, but that's what I would hope for. Something grand and unique to further differentiate classes.
SCH should get Phoenix-Egi.
I think what needs to happen is being able to summon both Eos/Selene and Emerald/Topaz Carbuncle at the same time (But you can't summon your companion then) in the overworld area. There are logical reasons why this is impossible (the pet-based skills eg Rouse could only target one pet) like too many pet bars to micromanage. Whatever gets/needed to be added has to be a self-contained AI more like the Chocobo and AI NPC's where you pre-program it to think for itself instead of being micromanaged.
But at that point, we're playing a different game. Mabinogi had a very versatile pet AI programming that was marred by hackers making the pets do stupid and impolite things, so a lot of the power of it got nerfed (making "chase AI"'s and "pokemon AI"'s were some overly-ambitious AI's) .
What perhaps would suit FFXIV is to have a more simple "Pet Macro" that just creates a decision tree based on what the scholar/summoner selects without the overly ambitious lists of monsters and behaviors to respond to. eg...
That would at least get rid of the blowing the cool downs and tune the Fairy to the SCH's Play style better. For SMN something similar could be designed based on Players target, Tank's target.Quote:
To use (skill) when ready
.If not in Party then:
..(skill) Me when HP <80%
.If in Party:
..(skill) Me when HP <80% OR
..(skill) First Tank when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Second Tank when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Second Healer when HP <80% OR
..(skill) First DPS when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Second DPS when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Third DPS when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Fourth DPS when HP <80% OR
..(skill) Fifth DPS when HP <80%
Personally I find that being able to tune the pets would be more useful, since many people complain about the Pet AI already.
Interestingly enough SE has already developed a system for what you describe--they call it the Gambit system. Pretty much a list of conditional priorities to control AI.
I think what might also help with pet performance if it movement/actions were decided on the client side and sent to the server--similar to player abilities. Of all the MMOs with pet jobs I've played, the ones in FFXIV are the least responsive I've ever seen.
