There is a way but it's not allow in the TOS so no one can say where you can get it in the forums.
Can you specify where it says you cannot in the TOS?

"Activities that destroy game balance
Using third party programs or tools in FINAL FANTASY XIV is strictly prohibited since they allow users to gain an unfair advantage over other players. The use of programs or tools within FINAL FANTASY XIV that allow certain continuous actions to be performed automatically are often referred to as absentee play, which is also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Additionally, during the course of an absentee play investigation, players may be requested to respond to or comply with a GMs instruction. Failure to do so is consider a violation and may result in disciplinary action being taken against the account.
The following activities are also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
•Modifying, analyzing, integrating and reverse engineering game data
•Utility creation and distribution
•Exploiting SQUARE ENIX programming that does not run as intended to gain profit or damage other players"
edit:
should be based on this:

"2.6 Hacking and Circumvention. You may not hack, disassemble, decompile, or otherwise modify the Game or server computer code, whether the Game code is located on a DVD, Blu-rayTM disc, your computer/console or on SQUARE ENIX’s servers, except as expressly permitted by SQUARE ENIX or applicable law. "
In other words: If you run anything on your computer while the game is running that SE doesn't like they can just ban you unless a law specifically allows you to.
No one said anything about 3rd party programs. Where does it say you can't run 2 physical copies of final fantasy xiv on your pc?
Well try running it twice without a 3rd party program.
it is (WAS) possible on xp, but that was changed. Now you can not play it dual with visual xp even :P Third party is the only way. Ooooor, do as me, get yourself a second computer :D My lappy plays game perfectly, my desky plays the game flawlessy :D
Thats just it. Wheres the difference/advantage over other players from me running 2 copies on one computer, compared to running 1 copy each on two computers?
I don't get people who dual-box or wanting to. I find it Lame with a capital L.
Sure, making a second account to create a mule for storage purposes, I can see people doing that. Wanting to play 2 accounts or more at the same time I find it fishy and seriously it shouldn't be authorized. You know who else uses these type of programs? RMT.
So what are you gonna do dual-boxing? Have another char follow you around to get bonus exp on leves? lol Lame.
Edit: I am aware that this is somewhat trolling, but I have a very strong opinion of dual-boxing.
syntaxlies and Zenaku are correct. If you "discover" a way to run two or more instances of the FFXIV client on a single machine, you do so at your own risk.
If you were using two computers, two keyboards/mice/gamepads, that would be a different story.
On the manual multi-boxing note, FFXIV has been very difficult to multi-box versus say Aion. Managing the distance of a mage to be able to provide cures, avoid area AoEs and spawned mobs, follow without snagging on corners or losing the target by invisible zones, or in anyway contribute offensively to combat has been difficult. To me, it's not fun, not efficient, and hasn't been worth it.
I imagine you want to take advantage of that buddy pass though to transfer items between characters, have some extra inventory space, and maybe conserve some anima. But if you discover a way to do this on a single computer, you do so at your own risk.
Yeah, no. There is no risk associated with running multiple instances of a client, because currently there is no way to detect for this. If you already run your programs in an isolated environment, which many of us do, you can open as many instances of XIV as you can manage to.
I run my entire computer with a legal, non-violating ToS program called Sandboxie to prevent the spread of infections throughout my computer. It just so happens because it isolates all of the programs from touching one another, I can run multiple instances as a by-product of computer security. No actual modification is taking place of the XIV client.
This is done because some people do not have advantageous play times with members of their linkshell or may log in with enough time to do some farming or questing, but not enough to get a group. 2 Characters with complimentary jobs can get much more done in the same time frame than a single character can.
Lots of us did it in XI, I still see reasons to do so in XIV. The only proplem with dual boxing is that FF MMO games are programmed to only run one instance at a time. The only way around this is to fool each instance into thinking it is in it's own full screen mode. The only thing that does this is a third party program. SE really doesn't have an issue with this third party program itself, but more the fact that the 3p program allows for botting, hacking by allowing scripts to be ran inside of the third party program that will enter commands automatically into XI and XIV for the player.
SE does not feel it fair for some players to put the game on "easy" mode with these programs when other players are having to physically play and enter these commands in order to get the same returns. I agree. If you are going to play a game, play it, don't let the computer do it for you.
