So is 4.0 the end?

Y has mentioned they have plans up to 4.0. Does that mean once 4.0 its the end of ff14 then on to the next one?

I think it means that's what they have planed up to so far. You can only Wright so much then need to do it.

I doubt that is what he means. When they developed the 2.0 arc, they finished it story-wise before 2.1. They prepared the cutscenes and other such things after that. Meanwhile, the story team moved on to 3.0. Currently they are starting to shape 4.0. Once 4.0 is shaped, they will move onto 5.0 and forward. There is always possibility the game can be stopped at any time, but I highly doubt it will be anytime soon. :)

No. It means they haven't planned the content for after 4.0. There is a limit to how far ahead they can plan.

You mustn't just read words for their direct meaning. Look at the context and his intentions would be very apparent.

"Up to 4.0" doesn't mean they're stopping at 4.0. Just means they've already started work on the next expansion after Heavensward.

Your trolling is a bit too obvious. He meant exactly what he said, that that's how far ahead their plans reach. It'll likely be a couple years before they decide what's happening four or five years down the road. Do you think developers are like God, with all of eternity planned out before the first step of creation? LOL

oh my gosh im not trolling. I never played a FF MMO and only played the non MMO FF titles. So i was just curious. OF course i don't want it to end. I LOVE THE GAME and want to get better and better. I just wanted to see if FF veterans had some insight to share.

The devs could mean " yea we have story til 4.0" but no new story just updates. who knows? i was just asking.....

He already said they have plans for at least 10-15 years for this game in other interviews, so consider that before you jump to other conclusions.

He also said that they had the full 2.x (so up though 2.55) planned out by the time 2.1 released. Mentioning it in terms of 2.1 implies that they did not have that much planned when 2.0 initially released. So they were running around a year to a year and a half ahead in their planning at that point. That they're now planning out their 4.0 story when 3.0 isn't out yet means they're already shifting their lead time a bit further out.

(Of course, after the original FFXIV crashed and burned in more ways than one, they were rather under the gun to get 2.0 out. I suspect that involved enough time pressure during the lead up to ARR that they would have had to focus most of their attention on just 2.0 itself and likely couldn't get as detailed in their advance planning as they might have wanted to. So this is more like their lead time is recovering a bit after that. Of course, this part is pure speculation.)

10-15 year!? Now THAt makes me happy. There isn't any MMo around as gorgeous as this. With the ff lore just seals the deal for me.
