Rant (cuz I'm gonna break something if I dont....)

So, I waited quite a long time for Helicoprions' rare weather. Finally the stars aligned and the correct weather requirements showed up. I spent the entire 8am to 4pm fog>heatwave window trying and trying and trying to catch the Mooch fish. Never once did I catch the mooch fish at all.......

I had the correct bait, gathering and perception FC buffs, Spinache Quiche HQ, BiS and Max melds (except Lucis), the whole shebang, I can catch Nepto Dragons no problem but I cant catch a HQ Storm Rider to save my life?

It will probably be yet another week before the stars align and the weather pops again when Im online.....

After having spent 5 months trying to get Titanic Sawfish just so I could advance this quest, I have to question, why the heck does fishing need all these unbelievably strict spawn requirements. Fishing used to be a fun and relaxing pass time for me in this game until Big Fishing came out. Now, I can understand time OR weather + Bait, but not time AND weather + bait.
Then there's fish like Helicoprion. The time is specific 8AM to 8PM, the weather has to change from specifically FOG to HEATWAVE or it wont work AND you have to use the right bait (WHICH EVERY OTHER FISH IN THIS ZONE ALSO BITES ON). The gosh damn universe has to precisely align at the exact moment in time and you somehow need to manage to be online when it happens to even get a shot at catching one fish.

Its a bit much dont you think?

Anyways, after 5 months trying to catch one retarded fish only to follow it up with something worse, I needed to vent or I was probably gonna put my fist through my monitor and then table flip my desk and shatter my keyboard and mouse over the crumpled remains of my PC...

TL;DR: Its a rant, about a fish and its unbelievable pop requirements.

omg. i just started big fishing and i've been trying to catch Titanic Sawfish for the past 4 days with no luck.

i dont think fishing is for me... im trying to like it. and i will give it maybe another week. its just so demanding and luck based. i feel like i have no control over catching the fish. where other gathering jobs at least have that last hit that give you 100% HQ and gathering chance.

i may get my supra and quit fishing :(

For stuff like Helicoprion it is always smart to have your mooch ready and idle, up to 30 mins before the window begins, so you can have at least one solid chance at the legendary fish.

I lost count of the number of Shonisaurus windows I had to endure after around fifteen or so, and during several of those I didn't catch a single HQ Cloud Cutter. I got lucky on my Helicorpion and got it in very very literal last 30 minutes (game time) of the weather window on my first window weather fishing for it. The RNG for fishing is just insane. While I got lucky on that (got about 10 HQ storm riders) only one bite was the Helicorpion. However tho the Namitaro I've gone thru 2 back to back thunder/thunderstorm weather windows with 0 bites on Giant Takitaro's to even get the Fisher Intuition needed to have the 2 chances at the Namitaro. I've yet to see the weather for the fish in western noscea yet.

Mmmm have yet to get the Helico or the la noscean one. Did get kuno(in the first window) and namitaro(though spent like some 6 windows fishing it). But for me this is something I work towards while also getting to the 106 big fish achiev. So possibly less stressuful since I go after a few at the same time.

tbh, how can titanic saw take 5 months? do you spent 1 min per day with fishing? If i try hard to catch one I usually get 1-2 per day with average luck (including many silver sharks).

as duude said, try to catch the mooch before the window starts, it helps a lot. you should also use the 14angler weatherreport, you can semi afk the whole day and will never miss a single window

I think i spent 10 or more windows until I got just one bite, but well. Do you expect some newcomer to 1 shot t13? its endgame content, so it consumes a lot of time, the big fishing reward sounds even better than the t13 title

I'm not the only one who spent 5 months off and on fishing this thing. Several friends of mine spent a couple months trying to catch him as well. It was not for lack of us trying let me assure you. And It was very frustrating watching newer fishers with barely enough gathering walk up, spend 20minutes, and catch him in their first window. But buying him wouldn't fill my fishing log entry, so I kept at it. It was horrible! Whenever I wasn't busy doing FC things I was fishing. Even the guys on my server who generally pop the S ranks started sending me tells "You still havent caught it!?"

If you are catching 1-2 sawfish's per day congrats! You are one of the lucky ones.

This all being said, I made it my mission while waiting for Gigant Clam windows, I'd go around and fish up the other "rare" (green item) fish. Since last friday when I made this rant I have caught over 20 rare fish in multiple zones. Which only makes me more irritated that Sawfish took so long. What's up with him?

Edit (4/12/2015): Okay what the heck is up with Sawfish? Since last Friday I have now caught all but 2 of the Feast Of Famine fish, and dozens of other Big Fish. Why the heck is Sawfish such a pain?

Nope, I don't expect a new comer to one shot T13...
But they have one shot the Titanic Saw fish. Poor analogy is poor.
And catching 1 - 2 Titanic Saw fish in a day? If true, that's not average luck, good sir, that's unbelievable luck.

What I would really like would be to see fishing get some GP using skills to help with things like mooching / big fishing. Something like use gp to get a high quality buff for X minutes. Chum the waters using GP to increase the chance of the big one biting on the bait for X minutes. Could have GP using skills like that and have GP not regenerate for fishers while the buff was active. Maybe a skill like mining / botany have to increase the chance to succeed at landing fish during X minutes.

I feel that pain, sometimes I feel I should quit fishing..

Waiting for specific weather or time is accaptable... but specific time and weather and double HighQuality Mooch.. sometimes its unrealistic..

Sometimes I say.. I should be gathering shards instead.. but I also get pissed off, because I waste my time while the bot next to me has his/her owner sleeping while the bot is gathering day & night. Maybe i should quit this game a whole.

Like everything RNG driven, it caters the one and starves the other...

im sitting in a it-training and have lots of time besides, but no probability to raid or farm FCoB so i tried to hit on my Gatherer Tools, and the Sightseeing log...

Day 2, already fed up with this damn "weather here, timespan there" thing, checking those to align up sucks more than learning for my exam on friday.

Yet another case of elitists opening their big mouths about wanting challenges and everyone else paying the price when those wishes are granted. The RNG element in fishing is about as absurd as 3/4-star crafting.

I have to agree with the latter part of this this. I dont know if it was elitism that brought us here but... as I said in the original post, after months of fishing I finally caught Titanic Sawfish... A few weeks later Ive now caught all of the Feast of Famine fish. That's all I did, lived breathed and nearly ate fish non-stop trying to catch them all like some horror-version of Pokemon!

But now that I have all of the Feast of Famine complete. I once again have to go back and ask.. WHY ON EARTH did Titanic Sawfish take so long? I had extremely good gear (far more gathering/perception than what was required) Sawfish's window was far more readily available than Shonisaurus or Helicoprion's and yet it took me months to catch Sawfish and only a few weeks to catch ALL of the "REAL" legendaries? And not just me, My husband completed his Feast of Famine one day before me. We both started the quest around the same time. (He started maybe 2-3 days before me) He also went several months trying to catch Sawfish... I dunno maybe we just got extremely lucky after all the hardship from Sawfish but....

its just an observation. I still think maybe Sawfish's RNG needs to be re-adjusted?

agreed, the RNG chain on some fish is simply ridiculous, specific weather, followed by another specific weather + specific time + triple mooches - and even after that elusive hook, you are still in RNG territory to complete the catch. Whoever thought of it is a sadist.

Did anyone ever think of how much like real fishing this is? Big Fish are big for a reason. It's because they have lived long enough and were smart enough to get off of countless hooks and lived through all that the world has thrown at these fish.

If you are going to complain because this is too much like real fishing... I am laughing at you.

It's also a game. Not real life. If I wanted real life, I'd go outside and fish :P (Though in all likelihood, I wouldnt be trying to land a specific fish at a specific time of day... or weather for that matter, no one likes to stand in the pouring rain, blizzards or searing heat just to catch a fish :P haha)
So go ahead and laugh that we're all hoping and striving for a better fishing system through feedback but please keep your laughter to yourself. Be happy for someone else's happiness. Even if that's catching virtual fish. Don't try to destroy it. Just keep striving for yours. :3
