This post won't reach the people you want to reach.
Also, don't summon Titan-egi when you're in a raid like CT/ST/WoD. Your chicken nugget is just going to piss off tanks.
Okay OP, I'll get right on that and I shall go and spread the word, telling every single Summoner, since obviously all Summoners do the same thing in all duties.
I never knew Ifrit wielded a lance. And I never knew his stun was called leg sweep. Interesting. I'll pass this on.
Ifrit-egi is not a drg thank you, he can't tank the floor if he never touches it.
Given some of the runs I've seen in WoD, I've always been tempted to bring out Titan-Egi as a SMN when I see the Tanks NOT pulling adds and getting their attention off the rest of the party. I call those Tanks "lolTank".
I'll admit when I first joined this game, ARC/SMN was actually my first go to class while I was still learning the game, and kept my pets on "Sic" instead so that I didn't think about having to micro-managing my pet while I'm still learning just how to play as the class itself. I imagine most of the low level ARCs/SMNs I see felt/feel the same way as they're still learning the class itself. It wouldn't surprise me if there were notable "lolSMN" players out there if they insisted on keeping the pet on "Sic" even after they've had tons of time to learn the class.
Fast forward to today, after all the time I've spent Tanking and Healing dungeons over DPSing, (WAY more in fact... and I kinda really took a liking to Tanking, lol) I eventually went back to my SMN... and couldn't help but notice the stun moves on Ifrit and Titan this time around, along with Garuda's own version of Fluid Aura, which by itself can act like Fluid Aura and interrupt a spell cast of an enemy. I switched to using "Obey" at that point, I rebuilt my SMN hotbar action list to not only consist of User Macro inputs to tell the pet to do something, (Usually, telling them to unleash an AoE burst) but I've even set their stun/push moves as separate actions on my hotbar, so that I can manually order them to stun an enemy should the Tank I happen to be working with end up being a "lolTank". (Or, in the WAR's case, they already used their stun move and can't use it again for a bit) Heck, I find myself doing this as all DPS roles in general now. I've Tanked dungeons so much that I have a habit of timing my DPS stun moves like I'm Tanking the dungeon, forcing myself to remind myself that the Tank player has that covered unless I see otherwise, lol. (Oh, and I've got Garuda's "increase length of debuffs" set as a separate hotbar action too)
By doing this though with my SMN hotbar, I DO get a lot of them annoying error messages saying "You're current pet can't do that" and all that, but I feel I made SMN more fun for myself by taking more control over what my pet does. Who knew taking all that time Tanking dungeons and knowing when to stun/silence an enemy as said Tank would do so many wonders for how I view stunning/silencing enemies as a DPS? :p
Marcoing summoner pets isnt all that hard. Since they barely take damage from AOEs and benefit from medica 2, you dont need to move them all that much. Unless the boss has a swipe auto attack then you should move them. But other than that you never need to activate ifrits spells when youre using him on a boss unless its a very specific boss like the scorpion in Satasha HM. Garuda is the same. Only difference with her is activating Contagion.
Well, once I asked my Tank if I could call Titan-Egi out for the next trash mob in ST, and they said sure. So when we got there I called MT in Alliance chat, and swiftcast summoned Titan Egi and sent him to the center. The rest of the alliance wasn't expecting that and got quite a shock seeing him floating to the center, but everyone enjoyed it and the healers kept him up, got a ton of commendations lol. Then back to Garuda. But that's an exception to the rule of course, we shouldn't do that for anything but a trash mob fight or do it without clearing it by the party's tank first.
Honestly, they need to do what WoW did and turn off the auto-cast on every ability except the basic DPS abilities. You're a pet class. You should be micromanaging your pet. If that's too hard, don't play a pet class.
Speaking of macros, this one is really helpful for Garuda and her Aerial Slash AOE so I get more frequent use out of it with her on Obey, by tying it to another ability I use when enemies are in close range of each other:
/ac "bane" <t>
/pac "aerial slash" <t>
And with error messages disabled, if the latter is on cooldown or I have a different pet out, bane still works with no annoying messages. If I wanted to bane without unbinding already slept/binded targets this would interfere with that but if you're not level synced below where you get aerial slash, odds are super high you're fighting something that can't be bound/slept already. And you can always rebind them if they're bindable, like soloing open world mobs. I've replaced bane on my main hot bar for SMN with this macro it works so well for me.
Titan-Egi is our lord and savior in awkward situations, tbh. More tanks should hope to be a floating chicken nugget with as much hp, defenses, and strength as he.
Fail thread
Not that Summoners shouldn't use Obey instead of Sic, but this is at the very bottom of the list of things done wrong in at least my last...30 World of Darkness runs?
...if a few random stuns/knockbacks are your main (only?) issues in faceroll/spammed instances - you must be in a very pro group. In which case it's questionable why you even have people like that with you, who play SMN and just let their pets do whatever they want. Similarly, if actual and properly geared tanks have trouble maintaining enmity against Titan-Egi (especially if that Egi is on Sic!), it might not be the SMN's fault, regardless of how they should not exactly do certain duties with Titan-Egi summoned. Just saying.
I don't think people doing FCOB (where I imagine these might matter) commit these "grave mistakes"...
I like Summoners who have garuda on Sic on the first boss of tam tara hard.
SMN, WAR, WHM here.
My perspective from each role:
SMN: Always keep Pet on Obey, Macro certain pet skills into normal skills (I have obey weaved into ruin II so I know Garuda attacks same target I am). Bane with Aerial Slash for that little boost of AOE deepz.
When tanks are not holding aggro or a tank is down, Titan to the rescue. I have had titan tank the Cerby adds as well as in Belly he tanked (We were one tank down).
As long as you don't bother the tank, MANAGE your pet there is no issue. Soon as Titan was finished? Welcome back Garuda, I missed you buddy!
If you have aggro only use Garuda's push skill as last resort. First try to get the mob to the tank so he can grab aggro. If the tank still does not grab it off you? That's when you can use it. Do not use it if the tank is trying to grab aggro or you're just making it more difficult for him and yourself.
WAR: If you lose aggro to Titan I will point and laugh at your mercilessly. Besides, you are gimping your DPS with titan out while you have a proper tank, why use it in the first place? You should use it when there is a lack of tank or if a tank is not doing his job. Titan should not be used otherwise (Last Resort). Also don't have Ifrit use stun skill or I might not be able to Stun/interrupt when I really need to. Pushing away mobs is also stupid. It takes me longer to get aggro.
WHM: Keep adds away from me. I try not to grab aggro, allas Medica II is sometimes required and sadly enough it creates a lot of enmity. Shroud is not always available. Preferably the tank grabs aggro on the mobs. If the tank cannot, I definitely appreciate the SMN doing all in his power to keep me safe (and thus keep the group alive)
I don't use macros...
I was healing my tank who was MT'ing Cerubus and Wolfbane's is also attacking me and the other alliance tank doesn't take it off me, I had a smart smn who gotten Titan egi out and saved my ass so at the end of the run they got my commendation situational awareness is awesome when ppl know when to apply it this smn did!
I guess I'm one of those Summoners who keeps my pet on sic T_T My reasoning is mainly because I'm focusing so much on my rotations for my player to do the most damage possible, since I continuously mash those buttons without any pauses. I also have difficulty managing my hotbars... since I'm on PS4, I use a controller (I like it better than mouse/keyboard, which actually creates lag on the PS4). Believe it or not, I target easier & faster using a controller. Anyway, back on topic, it's difficult to manage pet actions, having to constantly switch back & forth, back & forth, back & forth between your player abilities and your pet abilities.
While, instead, I can focus solely on maximizing my player attacks on an enemy, and have my egi (garuda) go all-out on the same enemy (I DO use <sic> on them).
I do, however, get complaints from players here and there about the knock-back attacks... From what I can tell, there's no way to avoid knock-back attacks when the egi is set to <sic>, though. T_T
Maybe I should just start experimenting fighting with it on Obey... I haven't really used those striking dummies, so maybe I'll see if it works well on those to see how to handle it properly.
I have Ifrit on sic when dealing with trash mobs and then Garuda on obey when dealing with bosses/mini bosses.
I'm going to be brave, and ...mention that I had to read your post a few times for it to make sense. >.O Period and commas. Don't hit me!! I'm a nice guy, really. XD Here, I fix it for you:
I was healing my tank, whom was MT'ing Cerubus. Meanwhile, Wolfbanes are also attacking me, but the other alliance's tank doesn't take it off me. Thankfully, I had a smart smn who took out Titan egi and saved my ass. So, at the end of the run, they got my commendation! Situational awareness is awesome when people know when to apply it--that smn did!
...OK, now you probably deserve to hit me. ^^;
Also, yes, you are a fabulous SMN when you know which situations to use which egis. I brought out my dusty Titan egi one day and tanked the rest of a dungeon when a tank rage-quit, and we won the fight D: I think it was a low to medium level dungeon, but still, it's amazing @_@
I've had my pet on obey since I first started levelling SMN, as I'd often take on mobs and fates much higher than my level (SMN+pet+choco=OP). The shockwave move from Garuda is good on a mob I know won't move orrrr in ST when someone can't position the clockwork dudes properly (so about every time). It really isn't too difficult to manually use pet moves as there aren't many.. I kinda wish there were more.
In regards to WoD inside Cerby I have found throwing out the Garuda stun/bind and/or a quick tri/blizzard when they spawn keeps them in check while I can focus my pet and damage on the stomach walls. It's a quick solution, though if DPS is super low and it takes a while in there I can see needing Titan.
Fortunately there's never been a time when I haven't had my summons on Obey in party play.
But I have seen so many people just let them run wild and sometimes it makes a complete mess of things.
Just wanted to say, as someone who frequently plays NIN in WoD, if you're a SMN and use Titan-egi in Cerby's belly I'll love you forever.
Dat mudra aggro doe
People play summoner?
