SE, what does this mean?

It means... now all tanks and healers gets 200min queue time and dps is now 5min.
/cryinthecorner
It means the DF is going to be even more borked than before once servers are back up
Maybe we can have the option to select for skip cut scene, speed run, casual run or only elitism are allowed.
I'm hoping for the cross data center PF.
hopefully no more20-118 min que or we found u a spot oh nvm
This means that now that I finally get to enjoy tank insta-queue due to leveling GLA, now it's tanks turn to sit in DF queue for a million years
SIGH THANKS SQUEENIX
It probably just means that they added the 3 new jobs into the player pool the DF looks through. This way they have plenty of time to make any fixes before the expansion in case the DF starts acting weird.
Nope, if they did that, they would mention it in the notes. They changed the algorithm, not the features. They didn't mention how they changed it because it translates to "Matchmaking has been improved". Or they simply added the new jobs in there beforehand, like how the ninja soulstone was added beforehand.
Knee-jerk half-assed guess is that it has something to do with players queuing for old content at Lv51 or higher. No idea why it would be needed. Maybe something more like trying to weight people's iLvl so it's more likely they get slotted into content that matches.
Please tell me this has nothing to do with what I'm worrying about... that they are removing lvl sync just like what they are doing on CN servers ;-;
If it was, it would say so in the patch notes. This simply affects matchmaking based on the features we already have for it. The Chinese servers are hosted by Shanda and they made the call to remove the lvl sync, it wasn't SE's call.

It's most likely in prep for HW by making the DPS requirements less strict. Now it might find dps based on the next one in line rather than the next melee or ranged in line.
No level sync on Chinese servers?
I feel terrible for the newbies getting kicked instantly so another 50 can join ...
why would you kick a new player in any below 50 dungeon if you can practically solo it.
logically speaking since there are going to be 3 roles for tank and healer now, the algorithm may have been adjusted for that.
In addition, it may also have set bard into a classification that will include MCH rather than its own category or lumped in with the casters.
Remember the DF currently prioritizes diverse parties, and starting with 3.0 they're about to get even MORE diverse. The last thing you want on launch day is your brand spankin' new classes having to wait an hour and a half for queues because some shlub didn't code the algorithm to account for them.
about time they looked at the search algorithm its been broken pretty much since release lol
Yeah you're right... I really hope so, maybe I was just worrying too much. The official account of FFXIV Shanda ver. on Chinese social network posts their interactions with Yoshida regularly and even a recent visit to JP headquarter, giving me an impression that what they do are all permitted by SE. And many Chinese players see this as an experiment on their server before SE actually decide to apply it for all the servers.
From occasionally observing "Duty Status" i strongly believe the DF already assigns you to 1 of the any 5 duties the moment you join the que. I imagine the new algorithm will move your placing to different duties based on how soon it will be ready and how long you have been in the que.
Wait im giving too much credit.
Most likely we wont see silly party compositions in raids where we have 4 brds in party A and 4 blms in party B and 2 sch's in party C when both party A and B have all whm healers. An algorithm to make looting less competitive for dps and favor diversity for greater stat boosts across the board.
LOLWAT?
Yes that's what they mean to "reduce difficulty for newbies": high lvl players steamroll contents to help newbies get drops and gils. However newbies will not be able to get any exp through the whole dungeon if there's someone with a lvl gap >11. And they even wrote this in preview version of patch note: if newbies really want to lvl through dungeons, they'd better use PF instead. I can see nothing but a newbies' nightmare...
my god...this sounds like trying to solve an ant infestation with C4...
It's really funny because a lot of the critique for the game is that it's too easy, and the majority of chinese MMOs i've played use systems that they never fully explain to the players so Wiki Magician is practically a class choice in them.
My mind is boggling.
Yeah, there's definitely weird stuff going on sometimes. I quite often have the DF window up while I'm doing other stuff so I can guess how long I've got until it pops, and I'm always seeing already-queued roles drop off the list.
I'm also guessing it doesn't do a very good job at pulling from the pool of available players based on what dungeons are actually unlocked for them, as I almost never get higher-level dungeons when randoming at 50, so I don't know where all the low-level players are ending up. And then there's times when you get randomed into a low-level dungeon where all four members are synced down but nobody actually specific queued for the place. That just seems wrong.
The state of level sync in dungeons:
Right now the amount of health and damage mobs do in level sync dungeons are based on the circumstances that the players have gear within 5 levels of the level sync cap and players know how to play their class. The bestiary hp and damage relationship with the level sync is especially apparent in dungeons like Dark Hold and Aurum Vale. Aurum Vale is just plain unforgiving for a level capped dungeon and often takes 35-45 minutes to complete being forced into level sync. While uncapped dungeons can be steamrolled in 20-25 minutes.
I can see why the China servers removed it, they pay by the hour. They need to make the most of their time.
It's been borked for about 2 or so patches now. Not everyone is at end game with new players starting and all, not to discount leveling up many different jobs. The point is each world is connected to a cluster of servers.
You can't honestly think absolutely *noone* is not queueing on any one of those given worlds in the cluster to run through story driven content where we are actually the only one showing up, across all the servers, for 30-60+minutes straight.
Especially when I can hit withdraw and sometimes get in a queue instantly afterwards as a join in progress with them saying 'finally someone showed up!'
They changed something (or broke something accidentally) a while back, imo.
I dont see why they cant just go into more detail when they change something like this. It changed? good. Now explain what you changed. Or what the purpose of the change is for..
well lets see the average time is beyond inaccurate when it searches it will populate and drop over and over especially bad in the lower ones like sastasha and as a dps i have had to wait 3 hrs for a queue before to me it doesn't seem like the search is performing in a working fashion yet if i queue as anything but dps its instant or close to i get that there is a lot of dps on the servers but there is more then enough tanks and healers to match up with on various servers.
On three separate non-consecutive occasions I have encountered a bug wherein a group needs someone to join in-progress, yet people who try to join in-progress get fresh runs instead of the in-progress run.
This has happened to me personally twice (once when I was the leader so I know "replenish ranks" was used) and with me and the one trying to join once.
So yeah, it's kinda broken.
That's not helping at all, they also deserve to feel the dungeon difficulty. Dungeon exp are a lots if higher ilvl player take it all, it's not fair for newbies. With the current standard is already considered easy, just low lvl dungeon take some times to complete because of limitation.
