hmmm...dont know if want. I've always used keyboard/mouse though
Think I will grab one of these, the PS3 DS3 controllers are expensive.
It's very good controller and its well optimized for FFXIV, great sensitivity, response and for sure better than 360 one, but... yeah I went back to mouse and keyboard after a while ;D Myabe PS3 Controller + http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-9762553...4824565&sr=8-1 can try replace that :)
I like my fully programmable Saitek gamepad more http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-PP32-PS...825806&sr=8-42
There's also a 360 version of it.
The entire reason why I have a 360 controller is that I hate PS-style controllers with a passion. The analog sticks are horrible, the shoulder buttons are awkward, the D-pad has quite possibly the worst design I've ever seen (though to its credit the linked controller has a better design than the standard), and the controller shape is a R&D faceplant. Why would you put pointy, squarish edges on something that is supposed to be held comfortably in your hands?
In other words, skip the OP's link and buy this instead.
I prefer the ps3 controller to the xbox controller. I won't give a reason, just do. It's about preference, the 360 controller isn't 'better'
Thanks OP, just ordered one. Been using a very old Intec controller and I think it's starting to get on in years.
Doesn't look like a very good controller to me >.> The super long grips just don't do it for me, I dunno.
I wholly endorse the Razer Onza though:

A little expensive but it has two programmable buttons (bumpers), adjustable resistance analog sticks, SUPER long cord, very easy to set up with PCs.
Been knowing about that for months but forgot all about it thanks for the post i got a steel series controller and the dam controller thumbstick wont turn right so when playing FFXIV i have to turn the cam to even turn right ;; got to buy this asap there a lot of good reviews and even have some type of macro keys so that a nice +
I also sport the Saitek, it's a good controller unless you're a hand talker like myself... in which case you will constantly bump and knock out the reversable analog/dpad piece. Otherwise it's been good for me... Mind you if key binding ever becomes an option (fingers crossed), I will be ditching the pad in favour of a customized KB+M setup.
Not only does this cost more then 3x the amount... everything you described about PS buttons applies more-so to xbox controllers, not to mention the insane mark-up micro has on these :S You can't get any worse of a d-pad on a controller than xbox which is well known by any serious gamer... especially on any quicker input or tournament games. Not even going to talk about the jarring box shape, the fact that it uses over 15 year old tech and charges current gen prices, has less action buttons (even more so with the F-key shortcuts) than any half *** pc controller, and it's lessened multi-tasking function due to layout being different for the sake of being different rather than more practical.
This controller is alot cheaper in design and build than a DS3, but it's still only $12.99!!! You can't get any better bang for your buck than this controller atm! Just make sure you look elsewhere for it if you don't reside in the US... amazon.com is a killer for Canadian or international shoppers nowaday, esp the businesses who use them (Most won't even ship outside).
TL DR - You can't beat the price and functionality of this controller! (Plus it even has a hidden bonus as working as an extra ps3 controller if you need/want one :P)
I currently use this controller and it has about the same build quality as the PS3 controller;although, it's a bit lighter. I appreciate the longer handles. It's great for those of us that have large hands. The controller wire is pretty long too.
It just takes getting used to. Like anything else :) I've had mine for months now and it stills works perfectly. Except the useless function button lol
If it was wireless I would have got one. A shame.
I prefer 360. Mainly 'cause of the shoulder buttons. They feel more comfortable.
Nevertheless, I still demand keyboard functionality for controller users. I can't see casuals playing on their couch with a (USB) keyboard on their lap. Especially people who don't play on a PC (and are waiting for a PS3 release).
Or be even smarter and buy the one sold at discount for FFXI like THIS
I have two of these and have since I bought my first copy of XI way back like 8 years ago. Both still work perfectly, though I did have to dismantle one after some beer spillage to clean it.
I guess it's discontinued... http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming...s/devices/7361 is it's replacement.
While I'm usually a huge supporter of Logitech, I can't stand those controllers. My biggest problem is the square gates on the analog sticks. Makes moving in the four cardinal directions a pain in the ass, IMO. Circles, diamonds or octagons sure but squares? No thanks.
Ah this controller!
I wonder if they have fixed the Blue Screen problem on the drivers...
Hey guys, do you experience Blue Screens of Death while playing with that controller?
That XIV controller is the most ugliest thing ever lol, ah well my xbox one is fine and AWESOME
ugh.... a bland controller for a bland game
SE need to hire at least 100 more artists to work with this game
Yeah, I've made a Snakebyte Forum post and I got that they're working on a fix for that.
Too bad, because I already have a satisfying Swiss Technology on my hands (Logitech Rumblepad F510), and that controller would've been only for FFXIV for that Function button. Oh well, I hope they'll fix it =)
That FFXIV controller is a POS, this is better......
