Why is it impossible to find an active FC that is active on comms?
i know its nearly impossible :P
There are a few reasons why. The most common is that you cannot use voice chat easily on the ps3 or ps4. So, a lot of players do not get on it for that reason.
Another would be many do not like to sit with a headset on all day. I for one have music playing and would not be able to hear people or the music at the same time.
Also, a big reason is that many chat in multiple linkshells. It is hard to have them all on voice chat like that.
I am not saying they are not out there. Just that it might be harder than say in TERA or WoW because of these reasons.
My FC has voice chat, usually it's just me and my friend who bullies me on, haha.
I don't mind talking to her though, friend and all. Usually I hate voice chat though, it took me a month or two before I even touched TS honestly.
Ya we use Skype for our guild, mainly because I stink at typing and much easier to yell DOOM! lol sorry had to. ^__^ I used tmspk for 6 years in eq on raids now I cant game without voice.. switched to Skype is free and works same no click to talk but.. polite peeps makes it ok =) keep looking we out there ~.^
My FC uses Teamspeak all the time. :)
Even when the servers go down for maintenance, we still hang out and play Cards Against Humanity. :D
Oh that FC sounds interesting. I like to have my Skype/TS3 on to just chat with people. Sadly the FC I'm in don't use it that much.
Our FC is always hanging out on TS. Unfortunately im one of those that will rarely go on, probably just if im new to a raid/dungeon and want help. But its a good feeling knowing that its there and the guys are realy friendly on it.
Shame wrong world though :(
Well...
I used to have quite often doing voice chat back in 1.0 days or FF11 for raids. Unfortunately, this is not really the case with ARR, although I did have few of them. I guess since majority raid in this game aren't as tough as previous experience I mentioned, and also... we have more tools to use like signs and waymarks to help facilitate strategies since visuals tends to work better than words.
Heck... I even saw raids like coil that was explained better with signs and waymarks. And there's already plenty of learning vids around, unlike past where visual learning are not easy to find. ^^;
This is one of reasons I felt, just to add up reasons from previous posts. lol
I don't enjoy wearing headsets. So, even if I was in mumble, I'd barely be talking or listening. We do have a mumble channel for our FC though.
Because some player that claim to be a girl are actually a guy. they don't want to voice chat.
I use Ventrilo and TeamSpeak in WoW before. But never have any chance to use in this game yet.
FFXIV players tend to be very focused on what's needed to progress, and voice chat isn't one of those things outside of coil (because frankly, stuff is quite easy in this game). I also get the feeling that FFXIV has more women than many MMOs (no statistics to back this up though), and sadly women tend to be more voice-shy because of rampant harassment.
My second FC was quite voice-happy which was nice, but I myself tend not to use TS unless I need it. It can be a distraction.
i think the largest reason most fc's aren't pro voice chat is its not really needed
those of us playing on PS4 in my FC are on voice chat constantly, we use the PS party chat system and it's super easy.
The ps4 is definitely not an excuse NOT to talk as if anything it's easier there than anywhere else, the difficulty comes in talking to PC players should that need arise.
I have mumble, skype,TS,vent on my laptop but why would I want my laptop on next to me when I'm gaming and chatting on a PS4?
Just a small side note, most voip now has options to mute or lower other application's volumes when you or other people are talking. Not sure what it's called in teamspeak, but in ventrillo it's called Ducking. In mumble it's just a description that says something about lowering other apps volume.
I'm a gamer who never uses these kinds of things and one of the main reasons I have for not using teamspeak is that the accent from where I live and they way in which I actually talk is not pleasant to the ear (using slang words, terms from my local area) is likely to be difficult for other's to understand too especially so if they are not from the UK. I have a French friend who cannot understand me on Skype at all despite her fluency in English.
I think to boot that some people are generally shy, not just women either, and some players just don't want to partake in this kind of chat though I know many gamers that do so happily.
I'm a woman and I use voice chat all the time. I like talking. We also have some people in our FC who get on TS to listen but don't talk - either they don't have a microphone or just don't want to talk, but they want to be part of the fun. Our FC has a lot of fun on TS.
My FC uses TS a lot too.. Sure, a lot of the members doesn't use it, but there's usually 2-6 on! Ofc, this is both when we're playing and just hanging out :P
Tell me your guild s name. I see that ur main is in balmung as mine. I like to socialize and get to know and make real friend and not just in game but outside the game too. I think that is the reason some of us like to use voice chat. It is not just for raids/bosses.
Our FC uses voice chat for events and raids sometimes, but not in general. Reasons would be
1. like some have stated - some are on console
2. people might not feel comfortable voice chatting
3. so as not to exclude people it's just easier to chat in text
We have the option there when it helps for gameplay.
I really don't understand the burning desire to vocally talk all the time in game.
My FC TS tends to be really empty. It's typically just me and my buddy on there. We've tried to get the FC more active on it, but for various reasons (some have to use their phones and others aren't used to navigating or speaking on voice comms), it's largely only used for events/raids.
I've been a big VOIP user for all my MMOs, so logging into TS when I log into the game just feels normal. It feels stranger to me to not be on a voice chat while playing.
I know in particular my FC uses mumble as our choice of voice chat a great deal. For the most part during active times we usually have anywhere between 5-20 people on mumble. We invite people to openly use it often and not only for raiding so its part of the FC culture I would say for us. Don't know about other FCs though. Also..Cactuar best server yeah!
Edit: and yes this includes pc, ps3, and ps4 users alike there are phone apps or you can simply have a laptop/computer nearby hooked up to mumble/voice chat :o its what I do since i'm on ps4
My FC (same server as original poster) has Teamspeak and uses it for raids and such. Some members use it for casual chitchat as well, but I, personally, am not really interested in casual chitchat, and so rarely use it outside of raids. I tend to get very focused on the things that I'm doing in-game, and find chatter distracting unless it's directly related to what I'm doing. I have noticed members logging on and saying things like, "Man Teamspeak is empty today," so clearly some of our members are interested in it for that purpose.
Keep in mind that you are playing a MMO. This is quite possibly the nerdiest thing imaginable short of LARP, and so you can expect quite a lot of players to be introverted to one degree or another. :)
We're called Onslaught and have been around since the very beginning. :D
Check out onslaughtls.com if you'd like.
My FC uses mumble since we have both PC and PS3/4 players: PC players use it on PC while PS players use smartphone app or tablet. We are mainly based in UK but also have active players and key officers from France, Sweden, Germany, Italy and other EU countries of different nationalities from all over the world. Generally from the afternoon there'll be at least 3 or 4 players staying in the mumble channel, and for FC events we'll have the full party on voice chat, which is A LOT OF joy. We even made a French chatting channel at the very beginning but then found out ppl would rather talk with everyone altogether, LOL. We post member server info on FC board and welcome all member to join us on voice chat even they're not willing to speak or don't have a microphone.
An interesting thing is that all of our FC officers have same gender in game and IRL (2 girls including me atm), though some did change once or twice and then changed back again. ;3
My FC mates that are on the ps3/ps4 only started to use mumble on the phone, but that is only during raids since they got sick of wiping.
I do know of this and TS and mumble have this, but I hate that feature. I like my music when I am not raiding.
Aside from coil I don't find much point because a lot of friends play on PS4 anyways and can't be bothered to voice chat on their phones. I'd rather listen to music most of the time and use in game chat than listen to people talk about random things over my music. Just a personal preference, I can see the fun in voice chat, just don't find it necessary outside of raiding.
We use TS3 in our FC. All member are actually required to be on it when it game.
Loghorizonffxiv.com Coeurl Server's top FC . WE HAVE ALL Pc,PS3&4 users that all use our TS3. Active with 10 to 30 members on TS daily. we have 10 to 60+ members online in game a day. You can see are TS3 actively from the website and log in to it from there too.
Also lhxiv.com <----faster why to fine our site
So we are out there just rare and hard to fined ^_^
I don't use VOIP cuz it pulls me out of my game immersion zone. Meh you won't get me in a voice chat no matter how much you nag :P Not even FCoB. Currently learning T12 without so much as opening a voice chat :3
I have five different TS connections bookmarked and use them for events where it's more convenient to explain things. I'm learning to tank T9 (and onwards) now and I have an experienced tank in TS helping me out with positions, etc. Other than that, I don't open it up unless someone asks.
tbh; every now and then I run into people that like to use vox mode which picks up all of the background noise, heavy breathing and even the clicking of keyboards and mice (mute!). Then there's the other type of TS user who gets on a tangent and rambles on about something not even closely related to what we're doing in game. (mute again!)
I don't talk much anyway, I like to focus on what I'm doing in-game instead of chatting. Somewhat similar to what Elusana_Celah said above. :)
My FC used to use TS all the time, I personally really enjoy BSing in TS, though sadly many members have gone inactive, and it's really just me and one of my friends left that still go into teamspeak, which is kind of sad. :(
