Has it not occurred to anyone? maybe I'm over thinking things, but, When are we going to be getting content with a risk and challenge?. no-challenge content is like for example "weaker monsters run away when you approach"... could this be next for DoL? I sure hope Not.

you can only hide up to a certain rank above you. so it's not garenteed on all mobs. (dont worry you cant take a r1 and sneak by r90s)

What do you mean? What type of hard and challenging content can a gatherer have? Taking in account that they can't fight and you need to consider that not everyone has a battle class leveled.
So again i ask, what do you suggest as a hard content with risk? -

honestly i dont get why people think that a gatherer needs challenges such as battle. they are not a battle class and you can't switch classes when you realize that you have been aggroed, you're basically a sitting duck without some kind of protection.
also with those systems you are suggesting: some imply that DoL needs to be similar to DoM/W, and some are to the exact same effect that the hide feature will have. regardless of wether or not these systems would work, are good ideas, or supply the "challenge" you are looking for. they are either not a resemblance of the DoL or would end up as the same function as hide -

Most importantly the "Courel Step" should not to be used only to evade undetectable by enemies but also to get closer enough to the monster and gather from it. hahaha of course this is me over-thinking again ^^* That ability is simply for running away and hiding and DoL will need a lot more improvement before anything more can be done.

The system and ability are in fact needed that cannot be denied, however, a simple system alone not enough in my opinion as it does not provide enough of a challenge and harder content. it now becomes easier. maybe some people simply wanted that but there are others that didn't want it simple. I'm somewhat in between as it's good to have but at the same time lacks deeper meaning and challenge the more I think about it.
I may be mistake yes, but with only the present facts we can only think (*continue to gather from the same old shiny nodes with 1 new ability added, simply that". nothings changed, it may feel like it but we "gather to craft" and that is not a class. -

I don't think it's too much to ask for gameplay in a ... game. Gathering need not have the same type of challenges as combat classes, but making fun content for gatherers is important. Right now gathering consists of walking around looking for spots to gather, playing a mini game, and avoiding enemies. So the core mechanics amount to... basic movement and a mini-game.
Having abilities like distract, instead of simply becoming invisible would not only make more sense, but be more enjoyable as well, for people who were actually looking to have fun gathering. -

i agree that the DoLs need something to make it less monotonous. maybe, if you are in a group with a battle class you can unlock special mobs or NMs and the game gives you enough time to switch classes so you can fight too. fish up a sea monster, make a giant cactuar angry by trying to chop down a cactus, awaken a golom, etc. or maybe have a mini game before you start gathering that grants a bonus if you win. there are a lot of other ideas already out there.
As for the hiding ability; the first thing i learned as an engineer is that simplest solution may be the best. i know plenty of people who avoid certain DoL leves for the sole reason that the gathering points are surrounded or guarded by higher ranked aggressive mobs. you can't switch classes to kill them cause then you get less sp. So an ability that allows you to hide from them would make the most sense to me.
Personally i believe they should have made the DoL a secondary ability for the battle classes (think of shield). have two extra slots in the equipment area for gathering tools and then if something came to pick a fight you just put it away and draw your weapon. but we're not in XI so i guess that's out of the question?
