Gearing NIN with WoD or Ironworks

Good morning all,

I was just curious as to what most of the other Ninjas have been doing as far as gearing up? Is it better to go full Ironworks and upgrade them when able, or is the WoD gear the popular way to go?

Or, is there a preferred MIX of the two that works well together? I had made a similar thread asking about gear for SMN, and got many responses saying a mix of Ironworks and WoD was very beneficial, such as the WoD body and feet were better than their Ironworks counterparts. I wasn't sure if something similar was the case for NIN or not.

I am not a BiS NIN but so far i have IW Head and WoD body. Slowly upgrading the right side so a mix of Sold and IW accs. It depends on what you want I guess. SS/Crit/etc..

It's not the case for Nin in a similar way as it is for Smn, since Nin doesn't have a complete crap stat that needs to be avoided (like Smn has with spellspeed). So yeah, basically upgraded ironworks in every slot will most likely be superior. Some of the WoD pieces are still okay/good though, so let's take a look at the set:


- Head may be worth getting if you don't need the acc from the poetics piece. In terms of dmg they are comparable, so if you don't need acc, save your tomes.
- Chest has decent crit and a ton of acc, only worth getting as a filler piece since upgraded poe chest is BiS.
- Hands aren't that good, get poetics.
- Belt is very good. Depending on what Dervy's calculations in terms of the new stat weight of skillspeed say, it may even be non-crafted BiS or very close to it.
- Legs have a ton of crit and decent acc, they are good if you need acc. Upgraded poe is as BiS as it can get though so yeah, filler piece until you saved up 825 poe if acc is not an issue.
- Feet are good and it depends on if you need acc in that slot or not (WoD has no acc, poe does), though even if you don't need the acc you might opt for the poe piece to avoid stacking skillspeed too high.


tl;dr: Get belt, maybe use chest and legs as filler pieces until you saved up poetics, get head if you don't need the acc, get feet if you don't need the acc and have a better use for your poetics. Hope that helps. :)

I personally prefer to avoid stacking skill speed, so I went with ironworks body, legs, and feet and WoD head, hands, and belt. I've been pretty happy with that configuration so far.

wod chest is very good as it does have crit and acc, so if you are short on accuracy this is an extremely good filler and better then the ironworks chest, ironworks chest is better once it is upgraded to the augmented however.
While not wod or ironworks have you also looked into Arachne gear? Fully melded they may actually be better then ironworks, i have not looked tbh but i know for my Bard Kimiru was far better then ironworks when it came to chest and pants

WoD chest has 31 crit and 44 acc, unupgraded poe chest has 31 det and 31 acc. poe chest is far superior, unless you need the 13 acc difference ofc, but if you need that the upgrade wouldn't help. So why do you think WoD is better than unupgraded poe? Just curious.

Regarding crafted gear: Head, gloves, belt, feet and ring are BiS if melded perfectly, but that would cost around 40 to 60 mil depending on materia prices and melding luck, also Dervey already teased that he recalculated the weight of skillspeed and it seems to be lower than we all thought, so the value of melded pieces might fall dramatically in the near future...

My current situation is i have lacked acc so even if i have upgraded ironworks i still lack the acc :(

Yeah that's what i meant, regular ironworks (not upgraded, i120) is already better than WoD because 31 det (poe) > 31 crit (WoD). Of course if you need more acc you would opt for the WoD piece, but that doesn't change once you upgraded poe because the upgrade will not solve the acc issue.
