As the thread says, just another interview regarding heavensward.
However I think this is the first that actually talks about Astrologian and Machinist...That I know of anyway.

Pretty much. It gives us more info on Astrologian but I think we already knew about the attachments for Machninist ^^
Tells us Astrologian will draw cards from its deck (randomly?) and can either use it or hold onto it and combine it with another card, maybe like Ninja's mudra system but random and no failure involved or it implies 'hold on' meaning it will be a cool down for every card you pick. Interesting!
here come the Yu-gi-oh destiny draw to summon Exodia or Blackluster SoldierQuote:
This class has the capability to drastically change your current stance. This class has the ability to draw cards and depending on what card you get you can buff your allies or support your party members.
What we didn't know about Machinist was the "targetting different body parts" thing, though I know it's offered just as a "maybe think about this used to work" thing. Interesting stuff. Thanks OP :D.
Oh god Astrologian may have RNG elements.
I'm sorry, White Mage, I've loved you to pieces but give me the duel disk I'm ready to pray to the heart of the cards.
Standing around whilst your static is fighting a boss in Alexander and you're all like "I promise I can buff you guys, just need to pray to rng... wait nope this card wont work either"
Don't get too excited about this one; I doubt it indicates a return to stuff like "target the head to break off the horn". It will probably be more like The "Aim" skills in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. "Aim: Legs", for instance, would inflict Bind on the target, rooting them in place, while Aim: Arms would inflict Disable (cannot use actions); in this game, I'd guess "Aim: Arms" would inflict Pacification instead.
I wouldn't be too worried about this one. SE was pretty smart about it when they added RNG elements with the COR job in FFXI. Basically, the RNG there generally meant: If you roll badly, you get a good buff. If you roll well, you get an AWESOME buff. AST will likely be the same way, if RNG is involved.

Everything about that sounds totally fine to me.
Honestly, after 5 years, I'm just happy to be getting guns. I was fully prepared for a gun-wielding healer class, so that it's a DD is extra nice. Turrets? Awesome. Attachments? Cool. Honestly everything beyond "hey here's your gun back sorry about that cutscene back in 2010" is gravy to me.
Im sorry timmy but i needed to draw a 4 to let you live!
SWIFTCAST - You roll a 2 - .......... No raise for you.
I know!! Ill be levelling SCH (my main to 60 just in case) but seems like I'll be switching to AST for main.
Ever since they started revealing info about DRK (which seems to be their "poster" job) I've been waiting for more stuff about AST ... glad they've finaly revealed pieces.
This job will require quick reflexes to determine which situation you’re in to execute moves. Once you’ve mastered that, the Astrologian would be a very effective and useful type of healer. When you draw a card you have to decide whether you want to immediately use the card or if you want to save it and draw another card to combine it with, that’s where the quick reflexes come in. That’s a big element to the Astrologian.

So...Basically Lady Luck from X-2 coming to XIV. And that combining thing
reminds me of Alchemist a bit.
-Kicks Eos and Selene sky high;
GIVE ME THIS CLASS! I hope it's a bit of a difficult class
to master. We'll see who are REALLY good AST's compared to decent or bad ones. :o
So let's speculate on what individual cards might do!
My guesses:
Cure+1 (Cure)
Cure+2 (stronger Cure)
AoE Enhancement (combos with another card to make it an AoE effect)
damage -10% taken (reduces damage taken by 10%)
Physical Resistance Up (increases Slashing/Piercing/Blunt resistances)
Magical Resistance Up (increase Fire/Water/Ice/Thunder/Earth/Wind resistances)
Esuna (removes one debuff)
Double Up (combo card that makes the combo'd card's effect trigger twice ie: esuna+double up =esunax2)
I know I'll be leveling my ninja main to 60. But I think I just might have a new main job in mch.
Hmm, I understand that you can't use the new job if you do not own the expansion, but what about the AuRa? Will I be able to fantasia and become AuRa without the expansion installed first?
Machnist sounds a tad confusing. Is it going to be another BRD as in a support/DPS hybrid? Sounds like the job will be on the same DPS numbers as BRD....-so far-. I hope they do the kind of DPS a BLM/SMN would and just not reading it correctly.
I want to know what their PvP armor will look like!
Hm. Part of me wonders if the AST "deck" cloud be modified in some ways, i.e. Arranging the cards so they are drawn in such and such an order. I do like the idea of mild RNG that doesn't detriment you too much if you get the worst end of it.
Looks like the RNG virus is spreading, now it's infecting new jobs.
*grabs flamethrower*
I can see this being disruptive trying to main heal a raid, but it's also kind of exciting to see how it plays out. I expcet it to be designed with a 'if you know how to play your class, it won't affect you, because you will know how to make the most of every card' type of mentality. Who knows.
There was the comparison earlier in the thread comparing AST to FFXI Corsairs. If they are like FFXI Corsairs, S-E will most likely implement abilities to "manipulate" your RNG towards the AST's favour. It won't be perfect, but it should normalize a lot of the RNG.
Thanks for the link!
Some interesting tid bits, I'm not sure why but a few lines in my mind was like O_O - they used AEDD instead of AoE, Aera Effect Direct Damage. Lol, it seems usefully specific but I've just never heard someone use it before.
Interesting for Dark Knight is that it seems you don't have a "mode" as much as you just make MP decisions, wonder if they'll ever need to beg a bard for MP songs :P.
Agreed; while COR wasn't my main, I did have it max level and really enjoyed it despite the seemingly RNG mechanics. In practice with the abilities and traits I usually got what I wanted from my buffs, but it had just enough RNG to make those 11's and lucky numbers feel good.
If it plays anything like Corsair from XI (which was one of my three mains) it will be incredibly easy to get the desired effects to happen. 8 times out of 10 on Corsair I was either able to get the lucky number or 11 on all the abilities. once in a blue moon was it the bad number; and the effects when not on the lucky or 11 were just about comparable to those abilities found on other jobs. I wouldn't read too far into the RNG making AST a nightmare. (Of course you will have to use common sense when playing a job like this...)
"We also have turret type weapons that you can set up to buff your allies or debuff your enemies."
So, thats how Egis should have been work all this time anyway (bad english sorry)
From what is said it appears Machinist may be Offensive Support DPS.
Offensive support being it provides damage boosts to parties or more damage to enemies.
While DPS aspect goes into boosting its own Damage for higher personal DPS rate which is something Bards could not do.
With some luck AST can use the triple triad cards and summon them. Let's say we get Odin in alexander raid > zantetsuken > turn clear! xD
Quick reflexes when dealing with server side lag? You mean like NIN mudra that everyone and their mother complains about? The things that lag and make it not even worth it to play to many people? I can imagine the healer bunny now.Quote:

I'm hoping that a lot of that is just hype talk and doesn't truly reflect the job like a NIN mudra lag that's so renown.
