I know the Au Ra are an over used topic as of late, but anyone else wondering (after the pax east show) that the Au Ra might me more closely related to Demons than Dragons?
Yugiri does say how the people of Eozea might not look kindly apon her people. And we all know how Gridania hates those Demons. Yoshi-P did say "The face structure, for this race, is a little different than what you're currently familiar with. There is a certain direction that isn't really reptilian, but more succubus-like, or demon-like." So maybe all them dragon fan boys have a chance at being wrong :P Personally I would love the idea that they aren't dragon related. What do you all think?

There is lore explicitly stating that dragons and humans can do the horizontal monster mash.
There are only implications of demons doing the same, and there hasn't been any indication of that union producing children.
Demons (or "voidsent") also come from a completely different world and very, very rarely cross over. Dragons are not only over here, they have their own freaking country.
Thus, Au Ra are draconic. Females can "look like a succubus" because they're pretty with monstrous features, they can also look "cute." -

I agree with OP Completely. I got the same impression from watching PAX-East show and listening to what YoshiP had to say about it. He said SPECIFICALLY that they were LESS REPTILIAN and MORE SUCCUBUS/DEMON. He also described that he wanted to make sure that the race would be a popular selection, so the female characters were modelled after body types that statistically should eb selected more often, which is why they range from super cute to awesome Succubus.
Also, in the Lore Thread, under Au Ra Physiology, Fern posted that the adjective form of Au Ra is Auri, and there is already text in the game that referres to an Auri Warrior who held Odin's weapon before Odin did, or something along those lines, which predated Shiva. This then fully debunked the ideaa that Shiva was the progenitor of the Auri race.

It was mentioned earlier that most people in Ishgard will have a cold tone with the adventurers coming in, so it's unlikely we'll see much special dialogue for Auri players verses the other races.
On another note, Yugiri is supposed to reveal her full self during After the Fall Part 2, and I wonder if maybe her unstoppably good self and leadership amoung the Domans now building Mor Dhona as their home city has something to do with Ishgard lightening up on Auri people. I mean, they very obviously have good reasons to play nice with Mor Dhona, them being a literal fortress standing between them and a Garlean base and housing the Scions, so that may be a part of the reason why they turn a blind eye to Au Ra people walking around. -

The demons and succubus in this game do have 'scales' in certain places, much like the Auri (though the demons are pretty much entirely scaly/boney). It would also make much more sense as to why Yugiri would hide her appearance, as the void sent demons are killed upon sight (for obvious reasons), whereas beastmen (if they're not tempered by their Primal) are allowed to live peacefully amongst the humans.

It's interesting that they've been telling us how much we can make them look like Succubi/ demonic yet they never mention anything about dragons. This might be intentional, or not. We'll find out in a few weeks, hopefully once Yugiri unmasks herself.
It's possible that Au Ra's simply have an affinity for darkness and/or the void. So far we have the Dark Divinity connected to the Au Ras, Dark Knight mascot as an Au Ra. Heck, even they said that Heavensward will be darker.
We've seen with Sastasha HM that if you infuse people enough aspected aether that they'll eventually mutate into and take aspect of said aether. Ex: water = aquatic feature. In the case of au ras perhaps their ancestors lived in a place that was dark-aspected which slowly gave rise to what we see now. -

The Horns are similar, but the tails are completely different. Succubi's tails are more leathery where the Au Ra are hardened scales.There's also the matter that every Succubi aside from Hali has Elezen ears on top of their horns. This is of course ignoring the MASSIVE height differences, lack of clawed hands (Or even slightly elongated fingernails).
It's fun to speculate, but the audience of FFXIV has a tendency to hang too much on Yoshida's words when they're not intended the way they're interpreted. I'll default to 'wait and see' mode on this. -

It's still a better speculation than the "Auri are Shiva's children!" speculation and, again, makes more sense as to why Yugiri would hide her face/appearance (if her face was mostly human in appearance + horns, then she could just be assumed a Padjal -if she hid her tail- or some sort of beastman).

Hiding her thick tail may not have been an option for her, being a ninja and all. Yugiri would need to be about to move freely, and Au Ra may depend on their tales for balance, like Miqo'te.
