Hi all! well... i have 4 Lucis and i'm worried if Lucis will be usefull for 3.0 x.x what do you guys think? any information if we will upgrade lucis to other weapon in 3.0?
I'm sure they'll be useful to get your next upgrade stage.
But they're going to be outdated, maybe not at 3.0 but soon there after.
They seem like a waste of resources. I imagine they'll probably come out with green catch-up tool that's practically on par with a lucis when 3.0 hits.
Considering how easy the Lucis tools are to get I think their current use is just to make the current gathering/crafting stuff even easier to make to help against the RNG (also explaining why they are such a large upgrade and you still need the Supra to get them). Don't expect Lucis to help you for long in 3.0, I wont even if I'm getting some of them.
They'll be useless by the time you hit level 55.
Just how mmos work these days. I could be wrong, but don't be surprised if I'm correct. Expecting the same with relic weapons.
I imagine they will have a new quest weapon at 60 which will start from scratch.
This right here is the reason i stopped doing literally everything except coil once the expansion started drawing near. Its pretty much a guarantee that the reset button is being hit on everything and lvl 60 gear will replace everything we have now. If you want to use these items before expansion go for it but be ready to desyn once 3.0 arrives
I had to chuckle at this . . . because I have been through it, and the same WILL happen in FFXIV. I remember when a major expansion hit another game I played - players like myself had worked months on Epic gear, raiding, grinding, sweating and pulling together very dedicated statics to accomplish those gear drops that made you jump out of your seat cheering and so happy you made it to the top of the food chain. However, once the expansion hit and I logged on, within 2 hours I had ALL of my epic very very rare gear completely replaced by common drops from killing random stuff out in the open. The running joke of the players was that Green was the new Purple (their rarities were the same color system as FFXIV). And these greens were stats that blew away all of my current gear at only 1 level higher.
I have not and will not ever do Coil, because that by the time I get from T1 to T5, expansion will be here and it wont be worth it. The only reason I am working on Relic Zeta at the moment is because SE has said on multiple occasions that Relic will not be left in the dust and we will be able to continue upgrading the Relic in future updates. Rumor has it this will not be in 3.0, but possibly 3.1, which is fine with me. They stated whatever effort we put in now will count toward the future Relic plans, so I figured I may as well get it knocked out.
But as for all of your Coil gear, Ironworks, etc. - even if you are a very casual player just logging on for quests or to go running around killing stuff, you WILL have it all COMPLETELY replaced within 2 hours of logging on - that is a guarantee.
'Tis not a bad thing though - have you seen the skins in those videos? VERY cool looking stuff!!!! i am not a crafter and I am considering taking up crafting just to get some of the cool new looks introduced in the video! And that Bard gear . . . ~drool~
That's honestly a very bad reason to not do coil.
Something people don't seem to understand-no one raids for gear. If they do they're an idiot. People raid for the social experience with their friends (or to make new friends) while accomplishing something challenging and experience content that the general public isn't able to do. Sometimes bragging rights, as well.
That's what raiding is. It's especially true in this game when half the good gear is on the VERY LAST BOSS of the current coil, at that point gear is especially pointless because you'll only use it to kill the same bosses over again until patch.
Gear is replaced easily, memories are never lost.
Doesn't even need to be about showing off.
For a lot of us, it's about seeing the avatar we created progressing. We want it to become stronger and stronger.
You can not be the best of your class without coil gear, assuming all things else are equal. You need it for some slots, thus BiS. There's a sense of completion.
Mind you, I love the people I raid with most the time. That makes it more pleasant though.
Also: there is no need to insult people who play differently than you. "If they do they are stupid" insults others for their play style.
That's like me saying of youre not playing to be the best, you're stupid. Or if you're playing to socialize you're stupid. It's a very shallow logic and only serves to insult. I respect people for whatever reason they play. We're here to have fun
Nice that you cannot accept that different people and cultures exist in gaming. It's a sad fact, but most people DO raid for the gear. That's the entire point of raiding is to get the loot and the completion. I get PLENTY of social experience from running beginner dungeons like CT and Odin. If I want a social experience I'll stick to those, and to be honest farming ST/WoD and daily roulette for Poetics, and doing my weekly for CT, gives me the same level gear as I'd get from Coil, only without tearing my hair out with 50,000 wipes due to mechanics and then hoping I MIGHT get the winning roll.
If you have a different reason for doing Coil, I accept that and I am fine with it, but don't insult people because their reasons for playing a part of a game are different from yours. That kind of closed mindedness is anything BUT the social person you claim to be. Your attitude alone just contradicted the entire point you were trying to make with your post.
Hehe so true. Getting along with your team is definitely an added bonus.
Here's a couple of useful all-purpose questions you can keep in mind when it comes to ANY piece of gear in this game:
Q: I worked hard for [piece of equipment X]. Will [piece of equipment X] become obsolete someday?
A: Yes. Yes it will. Having it, though, may well make it easier to obtain [better piece of equipment Y].
Q: Is it a total waste of time to get [piece of equipment X] when I can just wait and pick up [better piece of equipment Y] later?
A: That depends entirely on what you consider to be a waste of time. While it was still best-in-slot, you were king of the world. Was that a waste? Maybe yes, maybe no. It's up to you to decide.
There is the B option of required to obtain equipment Y
Just so you know, that basically means EVERYONE who DFs content more than once, hoping for a drop = idiot. While there are many idiots that you'll meet, they're idiots for reasons beyond wanting gear lol. Speaking as someone who did raids primarily during the golden age of MMORPGs (aka vanilla WoW and FFXI), you did it for the gear. The memories come with the desire for the gear, not the other way around. Maybe a handful of people did it mostly for the social aspect, but that priority wasn't very far from wanting the drop they could use. Likewise, for many, the priority of gear probably wasn't too far off from the fun of raiding with friends, but it was still the priority (see majority reason). If gear wasn't what you wanted, there'd be no reason to farm said content, but raid groups ALWAYS DO (including the final boss of a raid tier).
On topic though, Lucis is most definitely going to be replaced and forgotten. I wouldn't bother besides for self accomplishment reasons, or you need the stats immediately for one reason or another. Perhaps you just don't have anything else to work on (like with MGP) or are bored. If it's for expansion reasons however, don't bother.
So, Somebody else posted something in here I thought was hilarious. he said it's a waste to get Luci, but he's getting is Zodiac b/c Ypshi said he won't scrap Relics.
FYI -> Supra / Lucis are crafting Relics.
It's a good question, I'm hoping they continue to get upgraded. when 3.0 comes out, they will either be replaced or upgraded. I'm not chancing it, I'll be getting all of my Luci's before June.
This. Plenty of us don't push for BiS, but being on the bleeding edge of content is important to some players.
On that note and the subject of the Lucis, having the ability to craft 4 star crafts while most crafters (me included) are at 2 star, 3 star if I'm lucky, is huge in terms of being able to get the shiniest glamours/furniture/minions and the ability to generate gil while that content is new.
See, that's actually where a misunderstanding occurs. They're not relics actually, at least not something literally implied to be, as there's never been any sort of indication that they are, besides that they're a class/job specific main hand. The quests that you do for the i55 original have zero to do with the weapon, but rather the overall storyline for the craft and you're just given the equip by default. They're basically only a trademark tool, mainly because it's what you see the crafting guild head NPCs use. The "relic" term being applied to the crafting tools is a player-applied term to make it easier to grasp what someone is talking about.
Maybe they will have some use though in the expansion, besides leveling assistance, and since you don't want to chance it, by all means go for it.
I'd have a hard time finding it again. But I think I recall a live letter when Yoshi talked about the concept of relics for crafting and gathering being an interesting one and shortly after that we got supra (and now the lucis) upgrading from the original MHs.
That's just semantics.
Lucis ARE indeed crafter's version of relics. Why?
Because when expansion rolls around, having all the lucis tools + artisan's gear fully melded WILL indeed grant you an advantage to advancing to the next tier of crafting.
I imagine when heavensward first rolls out, new crafting mats will be very costly. Yet, there will still be people buying them (I hope to be one of those people) to be the server first 5star crafter or whatever and make money on monopolizing the market for a short while. and having the best tools will probably let you get away with having to use a little bit less of them.
If somebody's simply uninterested in that, and don't mind waiting a few weeks to progress then by all means, skip Lucis. But if you intend to compete in the race to the top, then you might as well get'em all.
Besides, there are still 3 months left and if you can't see a way to make back that 2-3million you'll have spent on it in 3 months, your crafting is not very profitable. (No right or wrong answers there, some people don't craft for profit and I understand that, but that's my main motivation and I think lucis is definitely worth the trouble with 3 months to go)
That's right... but semantics are important to understand, otherwise, as I stated in the very first sentence, a misunderstanding occurs. I'm not arguing the advantages of having it (again, as I stated already in that reply). I'm stating that there's not going to be some continued reason to have it besides leveling advantages, unlike the actual relic weapons, which is what the person I quoted was saying. Not entirely sure why you think semantics aren't important when the misused term itself was the very reason for doing something LOL. It'd be like me claiming the i55 crafting armors are "relics" and because Yoshi-P said that relics will have some form of continued existence in Heavensward, you should keep them around. Nor am I clear on why you think I'm saying that the Lucis gear won't provide leveling advantages.
We have a couple months and the Lucis I have done so far have been easy so why not? I have the time and it makes current crafting easier.
Yeah that was me but I made the comment about the Relic in addition to the convo about Luci as I thought both were related as far as people wondering about the future of Lucis. In my guess, if they aren't going to leave the main Relic users in the dust, it stands to reason that they may take care of the crafters as well.
I'm reading all replys o/ really ty guys +_+ i'm really worried if my lucis will be upgrated to another weapon, or they will add a new weapon saga in 3.0 and lucis will be useless x.x
The way I see it is, get it if you want, ignore it if you don't. Either way the game will have to take care of new players who pick up the game after 3.0, meaning the Lucis will not be required to reach the same footing as everyone else in the 3.x end-game. If you like the idea of being the owner of the Lucis tools, then get them.
As with the Relic, they will give consideration to holders of the Relic weapon, hence it's reasonable to expect some consideration to holders of the Lucis tools when in 3.0 or 3.1 we reach end-game crafting.
Beyond that, nobody, absolutely nobody, outside of the dev team has anything solid. So in the end it's your own decision. I do want to say, though, it's a game, you'd be better off playing the game and stop worrying about if something's "worth it" or not. In the grand scheme of MMORPG expansions, nothing's worth it. :3
Ya much like the tools from 1.0 that you gained through achievement, Lucis may serve a similar purpose. They will be an advantage for those who got them but potentially a tool of equal value will be obtainable that isn't as hard to get as Lucis.
With that in mind however there is still the case of recipes needing to be obtained for any new crafter and potentially said materials could be used as parts for housing/Airships.
