Does this mean we can skip Relic 3.0 and continue with our Zodiac?

You are misinterpreting it. He is just saying that there are other weapons for you to use, besides Zodiac weapons. There are primal weapons, tome weapons and raid weapons. All of which have their own upgrades.

There were three upgradable weapons in XI (Relic, Mythic, Empyrean.) I don't see why this is such a big deal.

I mean, current Relics are a joke to obtain, just RNG is frustrating. Short of obtaining them the same way we got the current ones during the final days of 1.0 I can't think of many ways for the new ones to be easier...

What I understood is that you'll have the current relic which won't go further than Zeta, and they'll introduce a new one in 3.0 that has nothing to do with the current one.

Best thing about this is that it FINALLY proves many of us right that the previous interview mentioning this was widely mistranslated on Reddit. We had all of this info months ago already but the first translation posted was taken at face value despite many errors. The number of arguments on this board between people citing the mistranslation as evidence and those of us pointing out the error...

When he says that players will still have their zodiac if they want to use it, I think he is referring to the new weapon using 'zodiac' as a generic term for the evolving weapon. Players will have the choice to develop the new weapon if they want to or otherwise use one of the many other, more easily obtained, weapons. At the end of the day the current relics were, for the most part, about glamour. The customisable stats may allow for a more optimal build but overall the difference between relics and other weapons of the same iLvl is negligible. I imagine it will be the same with the new one.

Zeta is the Final grind of 2.0 patch; 3.0 onwards will have a different set of relics which from that statement will be easier to obtain

Wasn't it in one of the interview with Yoshi about those who already have the Zeta won't be abandoned in 3.0 or something?

I have a feeling we'll have double relics. For those who have completed the Zeta, we'll get higher forms of it. For those who don't have the relic that high and would like one that high, they'll get the new relics. But odds are the new relics, like the original form of the old ones, will have set stats, with a good chance the stats won't be customizable until around 3.3. I personally welcome this, as I can keep going with the SCH and MNK relics, but bring all my other classes up to the new par with the new relics.

i think the zetas will be used as catalysts for the new relics. And if you don't have it, you have to do a time consuming quest.

I'm going to go totally sideways and take a huge leap saying that the new relic in 3.0 will be armor not a weapon. Reading the reddit interview with Yoshi when asked about the new armor sets he immediately compares it to the zodiac. If the new relic doesn't fill a new category it almost has to be either redundant with the zodiac weapon or to absorb it. Another large leap but I believe when talking about doing things with the zodiac he has consistently referenced 3.1. It might just be me but if a new relic was started in 3.0 then we convert zeta relics into it in 3.1... I see a lot of people (and I would be one of them) getting very mad if I had been working on the 3.0 relic.

So new Relics as Powerful maybe (or close to) then the current Relic but easier to obtain?
Why the heck did most of us spend so much time on these things then... bleh

I really wish that they would release some official information regarding this. I refuse to start anymore zodiac weapons until we know what's going to happen with them in 3.0. No way I'm spending all that time and gil for something that will be easy to obtain in 3 months.

We are in comlete agreement. Also, I've havnt pre-order Heavensword yet becasue I'm waiting untill I hear more Info about how relics will be handled.

FWIW, I'm all in favor of "extreme casual" gear, alongside the current rellic line.

The 110 weapons for sale in MD were a good example of this (up until the rellic got boosted to 125+).

A vague and slippery comment. From what I understand they will stop developing the Zodiac and we will have a new quest starting from, I don't know, ilvl 130 or so. I don't like it.

I hope they keep the Zodiac questline, but they certainly need to nerf the first steps so new players can catch up with the expansion content.

I'd be fine if they went the FFXI route of having multiple relic-type weapons for each class. As in they would introduce new relics in 3.0, but still support the originals with more upgrades. They also wouldn't need to create zodiacs for the new jobs and just let them work on the new relics.

It adds a little variety and flavor lore-wise, without invalidating the work people put into Zodiacs.

Its a really vague translation who knows what they are doing with relics until we get some more concrete info.

i doubt zodiac will continue or be needed at all. the current quest even SAYS relic weapon COMPLETE. what yoschi meant probaly was that the zodiac quest will REMAIN in the game for those who wish to do it. they wont further upgrade zodiac nor require it. i would never turn my zeta into a catalyst i did rather do the new quest and keep the glamor option for me.

it will be a new relic quest for the entire 3.0 series which starts with heavensward and gets its first upgrade with 3.1 patch later. just like relic on 2.0 got zenith with 2.1

When you get your Zeta, it says Zodiac Saga complete, or whatever. My guess is the next part of it will evolve it away from the Zodiac weapon into something brand new again. That way the Zodiac saga is still technically over, because it's something new.

i bet youre wrong mate. wouldnt make sense to create a new design for em just to redesign em not even 6 months later. i doubt thats gonna happen. it wont transform. its DONE. it makes no sense to continue it anyway if heavensward is meant to be a completly new endgame open for everyone again. heck even the new raid does not need t13 clear to play. why should relic be still needed? current gear will be worthless in an instant once you hit 60 i bet.

If I were to speculate, I would think the "neo-relic" quest line would have a progress bar, similar to how lights are accumulated. New players can begin building their "neo-relic" at this stage and get a weapon.

Veteran players would be able to trade in their Relic / Zodiac to "evolve" into the "neo-relic". The further along you are in the original quest line, the more progress you accumulate in a single trade, with a Zeta being worth 100% of the progress (therefore instantly evolving)

This seems like one of the best ways to maintain the existing relic quest line without having new players grind out the entire chain from scratch. Also the veterans would get the bonus of having a weapon with "customized" stats versus a new player with stats provided by S-E.

This makes it sound like there will be 1 relic quest line it will start in 3.1 if you have a Zodiac you get an advantage over someone who doesn't have one, maybe skipping first couple of grind steps.

I would be willing to bet... Random npc in ishgard: "Where did you find that weapon?! Those all vanished after the ________ "... "I know this guy, that can make it better"

just go get the blood from dragon 1, scale from dragon 2, claw from dragon 3, heart from dragon 5, eyeball of dragon 6, appendix of dragon 7, horn of dragon 8, wing of dragon 9, tail of dragon 10, teeth of dragon 11 and poo of dragon 12.....then we can recreate the legendary lampposts of the city!....oh and here is your new ilvl150 stick as reward :D
