Eff it and Just Give Us Ballista! Am I right?

For those that played FFXI, Ballistae was fun once you got the hang of your role and was a good pvp experience in a game heavily focused on PVE. How hard would it be to transfer the scripts, update the maps, etc. to adapt it to FFXIV? Shouldn't be harder than creating Frontlines from scratch in the first place. You could even use the Frontlines map, mining Petra in the mid, then have the Rooks on the secure points. Anywho, be a nice addition and a taste of variety for us PVP players.

I think the FFXI servers are still up if you would like.

Yeah, personally I loved ballista since it was a balance of team work and individual skill. Also by the end of the match, there would be MVP and top 3 players. But im down with the idea. South Shroud would be Jugner Forest lmaooo

I remember Ballista. It was fun but never caught major wind for more than a year in FFXI. It would have to have some adjustments for the faster gameplay but it would be kind of fun, if there was a map designed around it.

As I recall it, all it took was getting hit to interrupt a shot attempt, and that wouldn't go over well here. Also the search mechanic would need to be changed a bit to be simpler.

Other things such as a carry mechanic may even be possible. *shurg* Lots to consider to make Ballista more active.

Prolly as close to open-world as we'd get.

Did some Musing and here it goes;

Object of the game is for a player to carry Petra to their team's Rook and throw it in for points. Using the Frontlines map, Rooks are placed at Manors, Temple, and Markets, with one Rook corresponding with each GC. Thing is they switch spots randomly every 2 minutes, so Adders are running to the market Rook one time, then to the Temple the next(to keep from opposing teams sending dps to "camp" your Rook). Petra can be "mined" in mid, anywhere in the hexagons. Once a player on your team has a Petra, he/she is running off to your team's rook, can't attack but can use Sprint and Defensive Cooldowns. Your teammates meanwhile are trying to get 4 kills for the "Gate Breach" buff. Any kill from the moment your team has a Petra in hand count. Once your party has gate breach activated, you can "throw" your Petra into the Rook. Points scored! players can grief a Petra carrier by either killing them orMug(just like FFxi) to steal said Petra for your own team. Petra>Rook is worth 15 points, 450 points to win.

That's the basic idea. Let's expand on it! Let's put forward some ideas and get this thread noticed!

I miss random temp items and those last minute clutch scores to win games. We would need a different map for it though.

XI vet here, and yes you are right.
Please bring back a pure uncapped ballista in open maps so ppl can watch, where you bring out your best ilvl, melds, and morale.
Is that so much to ask for?
I don't even need rewards, it's pure sport to use all your best pvp stuff that we worked hard for, pve folks can sit on the bench.
And bring back ballista royal while you're at it.

Reading about it, seems like an awesome idea...

I like the battle system for PvP in FFXIV (You need a lot of skill and reflexes), except perhaps the unnecessary removal of cleric stance... But, well, it's a shame that such potencial PvP is being lost because frontline queues (GC requirement must be removed) and not good modes overall.
