Would you PLEASE consider making this place a 'no magic' zone?

I'm getting so sick of seeing these people spamming Holy around card tables (talking about in the area where the Triple Triad Master is), disrupting players. It's really annoying to be playing this minigame while hearing that same sound effect over and over again in the background. There were also a few people doing it in the chocobo racing area.

Gold Saucer already has a ton of players in it, so obviously this Holy spam is going to slow things down even further... So much, in fact, that my client crashed due to an "unexpected error" and multiple people were disconnected (possibly while waiting to queue up for a race, much like myself). Not only that, but it seems that some people have found a way to actually use these spells while on the center stage during the 'Time of your Life' GATE as well. I actually missed some routines because Holy was blinding me from being able to see the NPCs actions before they moved onto the next routine.

If you guys could please consider making the Gold Saucer a zone where magic can't be used, that would be fantastic. There's absolutely no reason why you should be using magic here anyway. I know you might be queuing up for an instance, and that's great, but any buffs you may want to apply can be applied once you're inside anyway.

In any case, I really hope you guys consider changing this in the next patch or something, otherwise I'm going to have to start flooding your inbox with 'harassment' reports of Holy spam and you and I both know that's going to get old really fast since there are more pressing matters you could be handling.

I agree with this but I dunno if they'll implement it.

However, I have somewhat of a work around:
While you might not be able to block out sound effects from spells (without turning the sound effects off altogether), you can turn off spell effects for non-party based players. I'd highly recommend doing that and turning off display names on anyone who isn't in your party or on your friends list, or at least setting it to initials only. It makes things a lot easier to see and you won't have to deal with the Holy spam. (Although you still have to listen to it.)

Even as I type this, there's someone in the lobby doing it right now. I think they have some kind of macro going or something cause they haven't moved at all and they keep using Swiftcast at the same time, and Surecast later, and have been doing this for at least the past ten minutes from what I've seen (probably even longer before I got on). I already reported them because this is just ridiculous. You can't find anything better to do with your time, so you're going to try and ruin other people's fun? Awesome.

We should just be restricted to basic actions in Gold Saucer (sprint, return, teleport, etc.). I'm really getting sick of this Holy spam.

For now, you can filter out "other" players animation and sound in your character settings. Lots of jackasses have been doing this since launch, particularly ever since DRG spam was discovered and seen as "cool", I've had this filter on. It's like a blind shade to the d-bags out there, and makes the Gold Saucer seem exactly like what you want.

Yeah. Someone suggested in-game that I just filter out the sound effects from other players, but that's just slapping a bandaid on it. It's not really a solution since I have to turn the effects back on whenever I enter an instance or whatever. Sometimes I need to hear a cue from a skill in order to decide what to do next.

I also found out that person currently spamming Holy near the Triple Triad tables must have a macro running or something cause I opened a trade window with them and suddenly they stopped. I left it open for a couple of minutes, but as soon as I closed it, they went back to spamming. I did it again to see the same thing happen, lol. So not only are they spamming this, but they're just leaving their character to spam it while they're not even physically entering the commands themselves (basically no different than a spiritbonding bot set to just spam Holy over and over again).

Guess that's that then. GM says nothing can be done. Great.

Hope you guys work on a new policy for this place then so we don't have WHM (and DRG for that matter) spamming all the damn time to try and ruin other people's experiences here.

Cast PoM + blizzard I as whm during the dancing minigame and jumping minigames.
I tried it only on the jumping minigames cuz its just too damn evil to spam that during the dancing one.

Also staying on the platform and waiting for the wind blowing minigame is just priceless as ppl think u r hacking or something cuz ur not affected by the red light status ( cuz ur not participating ).

I didn't even consider people would be so rude to spam such abilities while others are trying to play. That's really sad.

Turn off 'Others' effects when you are in the MGS I suppose ><... not that you should have to

The DRG spam bothers me more than the WHM. The animation noise is just the right pitch to strike a nerve, and quick. I had to turn off other PC noises myself.
System Config->Sounds-> Player Effects Volume-> Other PCs.
Though, I agree, turning off sounds shouldn't be something you HAVE to do, but my lord. People are obnoxious.

They should just make it so that no abilities can be used with the GS.Period.

As already noted, people can use their abilites to distract/cheat

Well, depending on what you prefer, you really don't have to turn your settings back on for instances. With the Others filter set to not show anything, you'll still see everything from your 4-8 man party (there's a Party filter that you can set separately if you ever need to). The only effect Others has, as far as instances go, is CT/ST/WoD, as it will filter out the other alliances effects. This is NOT a bad thing in my eyes. That being said, it's honestly more than a bandaid fix to the problem IMO. I have yet to even notice anyone doing spell/ability spam, so the world actually seems peaceful and void of those specific jerks, even though I KNOW there are people that do it. Locking out spells and abilities is more work than necessary, all things considered, because you also lock out useful abilities such as Sprint and Swiftsong.

macro this...

/battleeffect self off
/battleeffect party off
/battleeffect other off

make another macro to change off to on. i don't think there is a macro for player sounds. but you can go to System Configuration>Sound Setting and under Player Effects Volume you can disable the sounds of other players.


P.S. only way to file an harassment report for skill-spam usage is if they are following you around purposely trying to annoy you. and even then, you still have to ask them stop for it to be harassment.
