Well, it locks out people who aren't level 50 yet, and those that just do 50 now need enough hours of questing (and queuing dead fights) it could easily take them several days.

Depends on how accessible Square wants the place to be, really.

It also effectively locks bots and reduces the number of "junk" characters in there, thus reducing server strain.
The only downside is the people who play slowly, but hey, getting to 50 and clearing the Hildy quests isn't THAT hard. Certainly less time consuming than the main story by a LONG shot.

Why not? he's shoved down our throats all the time anyways. So it makes sense.

True. But to play devil's advocate: Seasonal and similar events are usually open to newer/pre-50 players... having content before they reach max level is part of what helps draw players in. Of course, as you say, the requirements wouldn't be very high, but from a new player's perspective, something very time consuming can seem that way.

Perhaps a middle ground, where more of the GS opens up as players level?

But... all hypothetical discussion really. With the patch coming tonight, whatever methods of access and requirements SE has chosen, they're already there.

This is false info. They said you can go in at level 15 and the Hildebrand quests are level 50.

That is a grind, Zodiac is peanuts in comparison.

This seems like it would be a lockout for people whom choose not to do optional questlines in the game.

Maybe not required for entry but some kind of bonus reward would be groovy!

I don't know... They'd have to knock a 0 off the achievement to account for change to Gil 2.0 saw, and when you can walk out of a dungeon a thousand or so Gil up from monster drops, that makes that achievement seem much more manageable. Honest Gillionaire is locked to Levequests which instantly means you're limited in how much you can get per day.

Either way they're both a grind and either way the developers are cruel for making me grind 10m off Levequests (1,4m done!).

Not if the requirements to open the Gold Saucer are level 15, level 15s cannot complete level 50 quests. They need to make it so newbies can unlock the Gold Saucer too.
