Exploration Jump (Please)

With patch 2.4, Dragoons lost the ability to do Elusive Jump, as in actually jump. Now they are glued to the ground in the same boring way as Shukuchi and Repelling Shot, and is now more of an Elusive Slide more than an actual Jump.

Why the change?

- Dragoons would see the move as useless because it would occasionally kill careless Dragoons, having them jump off of the arena. Titan and Leviathan comes to mind.


- In Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, there is a fun part that is sadly often missed out on, which is exploring different areas by jumping. Most of these jumps led to amazing views of the areas, and some jumps even led to exploration of areas untrodden.

This started a small community (Noborist) that has grown.

Noborists are basically Explorers, people who try to find amazing views in the game.

We would like to see a new "Exploration Jump", or that Square Enix reverses the changes to Elusive Jump. We do understand that Elusive Jump was intended as an evasion ability, and that the jumping part wasn't actually intended on causing the issues that it did, so... if not reversing Elusive Jump back as it was in 2.3, add a new jump with the same properties as Elusive Jump had. I hope that Square Enix will come to its senses and realize that exploring in the game (as long as it isn't actually breaking the game in any severe way) is something that shouldn't be punishable, but encouraged.

These, are the real jumping puzzles.

You may have to provide an example of where elusive jump would gain you exclusive access to some location in game, with steps. Thus far I have debunked several claims given to me to this effect. Its only advatage was and still is going to full mount speed from a dead stop, and this can be achieved through other means such as short hopping in most cases.

There was this one nice spot high above the ground in Mor Dhona that you have to use Elusive Jump to reach. This was before you could access the stairs at Rowena's place to reach the upper levels. The only way to reach the platform was through the combined use of Aetherial Manipulation, and Elusive Jump (and some parkour, bunny hops, and delay jumps). Lemme look around for the picture I took. Give me a few minutes!

Basically you need to have a partner with you to make it easier. You can just Elusive Jump all the way, but the positioning and angle are pretty strict. You start off on top of that stand where you trade in tomestones. You then sprint and jump off the roof towards the back side and AM (Aetherial Manipulation) or EJ (Elusive Jump) onto those thingies that look like a platform(?).

After you get there, jump to the platform on the wall behind you and circle it. At the top of the entrance to Rowena's House of Splendor, you can either jump to the top of the gate, or Elusive jump to the other side, or Aetherial Manipulate yourself to the opposite end. Circle around the wall again using the upper platforms. This is the part where you have to do some short bunny hops onto those curved platforms twice. They look like these:

You cannot go through the bottom since there is a wall. Keep going until you reach the platform before the bridge! Then you have no other choice but to use Elusive Jump to reach the bridge. There's an invisible wall there, but if you angle yourself properly, you'll slide along the invisible wall and onto the bridge.

As far as I've tried, mounts can only get you half of the way. You won't be able to reach the platform at all even with sprinting or on a mount because the platform is pretty far away from the small platform you are standing on. Aetherial Manipulation does not work as well since your target would need to stand under the bridge, since they end up getting LoS'd instead. Elusive jump takes you just far enough to reach the platform.

I like this idea, i'm all for exploring and finding places that's hard to get to. Kinda like how it is with GW2 or RIFT

I agree with the idea but the thing is GW2 doesn't have much illusion wall like XIV which is fine It save me multiple time when I didn't see cliff near me and it make it easier to make beautiful atmosphere too ( in GW2 most of the map will alway have mountain around to cut the map ) since you don't have to care someone will jump down there :D ( atleast It's what I think ) , but for jump puzzle It might be little bit frustrating when you try to find the way up because in GW2 It alway have tricky jump that lead me to fall but in this you might find just illusion wall until you find the right way :)

I would like to jump around too :D , just down illusion wall littlebit should be fine.

And this reminds me that they actually also fixed Aetherial Manipulation too. You used to be able to soar through the skies if you jumped and used the skill at the same time on a target. Now can't fly though the air anymore as it forces you to the ground. :(

What is the point of this thread?

We have Sightseeing Log and a platforming game coming in Gold Saucer IIRC. What more could TC want?

If you want real exploration just go play Fallout or something.

Because the sight seeing log was specifically created because people were doing this before it was added.

And Square Enix has catered to that crowd enough as it is. This game isn't about exploration. What they have implemented is more than enough.

They don't want to limit exploration based on class. Otherwise the only classes that would be used would be Ninja and Dragoon.

Understand context please, I figured more backlash would come out of the post I made in this thread that elusive jump I've found is a non-factor, haven't had the chance to test the one exaple I was given to refute that yet. The post everyone seems to want to quote here is fact, supported by link to dev post, used to specificly refute one post stating that sightseeing is a waste of dev time when the devs themselves have shown admiration and appreciation for the players that do so.

What would be better is to have flying mounts available in th old areas. We can be limited to the same borders as we currently are but then anyone can explore these little scenery gems.
