Gear locked to specific classes

Something I don't quite understand. Why do Dragoons, Monks, Bards, and Ninjas all get unique looking gear sets specifically for them, but yet all the healers, casters, and tanks have to share between them?

It both makes healers, casters, and tanks feel bland aesthetically, and makes DoW DPS a bit inconvenient because they don't share gear (not counting accessories).

I feel monks/dragoons should share strength gear and bards/ninjas should share dex gear, or every class should all get unique gear that looks different like the DoW dps do.

Either way would be fine with me (though I am tired of my scholar and WHM looking the same and using the same stuff, at least it'd be fair either way).

What do you think?

Then you'd probably have the same stats for two classes? There's no diversity in that, and plus, boring designs. You even stated it's boring to see your WHM/SCH looking like the same, so why should the others jobs suffer the same consequences?


I'll admit, it's weird having WAR/PLD and SCH/WHM sharing the same gear, but still.

MNK/NIN share same gear too you know. But yeah I'm really tired with this gear lock. Recently I got my WHM and SCH pvp gear and and I want try to dress WHM like Lolita cosplay with demon hat(lol), but it's really annoying that I should re-glamour it again when I want to use SCH that it only display ironwork gear. Seriously let this sharing gear get separated glamour please.

What I still don't understand is why the Hempen Tunic, a level 1 shirt, is locked to Disciple of War only but it has absolutely no stats at all.

Only up to ilvl 100. Poetics and WoD have separate gear for monk and ninja, so it's moot.

I want all classes to have separate gear, myself, I just know some people would argue against that because it's not convenient. I just want it to be fair. If my healers have to look the same, the DoW DPS should look the same too. But it would be preferable to just have different outfits for class diversity >_>.

Even when they are not sharing gear it's usually just a recolour of the same gear. I want to have gear that is distinct for the job. But seeing the 4 week long farm of WoD to get the bard chest drop myself I wouldn't envy others with that. So they need to atleast provide some alternatives for the bad RNG.

That exactly is the problem...glamours. Im allways glamouring and it sux that both healers share the same glamour then. U are just not free to "design" ur character. One will allways look shitty (f.e. if u glamour parts of ur AF) or they just look the same.
But there is benefit in sharing gearsets, too. U can upgrade both jobs at the same time and they are even (except some stat-/BiS optimization). U can switch between them as u wish. A BRD/NIN has to collect both sets f. e. :)

I'm all for separate gear for the classes. We only ever got the one set (AF/Myth). Visual differences would really be a nice change in this game.

I am also VERY supportive of changing to glamour the gear slot rather than the item itself. That way your WHM can look different than your SCH. This (and a glamour catalog of gear to select from rather than requiring that the item be owned currently) would be a major QoL change.

In addition, I think it's really unfair that tanks have the most glamour options available, DoW second most, and DoW the least. We've been down the road before that if a tank can be decked out in mage gear ( <44 stuff is All Classes rather than DoM only) but mages can't wear even non-armored DoW items (like the tunic mentioned above), the argument that "people won't be able to tell who plays what role" doesn't hold up. :/ We also have tuxedoed snowmen... any reason using "immersion" is laughable... AND you certainly can't tell what class they are unless their weapon is out. ><

But if you really want seperate gear, than they should make Coil with 4 treasures or maybe with tokens to get your equipement.

The system is fine!
1 glamour for heal, tank, mage, bard, dragoon, ninja/monk, every DoL, every DoH class.
That are about 17 classes for glamour, isn't that enough?

Only 1.0 - 2.3 gear.
Gear from the new expert dungeons (ilevel 100) is not shared between NIN and MNK

sharing gear:
pro - need less slots in the armory chest
contra - less freedom for glamouring

unsharing gear:
pro - more freedom for glamouring
contra - need more slots in the armory chest

Best solution:
multiple sharing gear with same ilevel and stats, but different name - people can choose if they want more of it for glamouring or only one to save gear slots

or just give the option to put multiple glamours on the item and pick which job uses which glamour

and just like that, you have the war af1 set on your tank gear and can still play pld without looking like a total doofus

Because you can't glamor your WAR to look different than your PLD for example :) Can't, due to unique flag, have 2 chests the same glamored differently.

As someone who has been using both tanks more and more (war main, but can/will use pld when necessary), having the same gear for both is a godsend. Sure the glamour system could be better, but I prefer to be able to use what I need to be able to complete content efficiently rather than just look good

And, it's not like pld and war need different stats. STR specced with DPS secondary stats (LITTLE/NO PARRY) is best for both

A nice feature would be the option to create glamour sets, maybe with the use of grade X things when you have to change, so the market would be untouched but at least it would be possible for us to use different setups. It's a let down that with so many glamour options we are required to waste so much time in changing it when we feel like it.

I still miss the old Myth Days. For my Scholar/Whm I always glamore the Scholar AF gear over new Healer gear. This way my Scholar has her own look while my Whm has the new Healer gear look. I Want each job to have their own gear set(s) again. Maybe then we Smns wont be nerfed by spell speed meant for Blm.

Yes, the jobs all need their own gear. I am tired of my smn having the same bland stat/gear as blm.

We need more stat options and SEPRATE GEAR. lol

The problem is glamors fall apart if you glamor JSE stuff over non JSE stuff. For example, my WHM AF glamored over healer gear doesn't work when I change to SCH.

I'd also be supportive of changing the glamor system to allow job-specific glamors... but I like the OP's idea. Separate gear for tanks and healers. Having so many DPS sets also means there's less chance of healer and tank gear dropping.

I'll wait for an expansion of the Armoury Chest slots before I agree to this idea.

Same here. While it WOULD be easier to add new versions of each item or the ability to generate copies of a given item than to completely rework the glamour system, we're rather limited on space as it stands.
Which is part of the motivation for having the gear sets with tanks, healers, and casters shared: they occupy less space.
The game is going to have serious issues with armoury space come 3.0 with the addition of 3 new classes and thus needing a bare minimum of 3 new slots for just the weapons. With 8 crafters, 3 gatherers, and 10 adventurer classes, we're already getting dangerously close to the 25 maximum. With the addition of 3 more coming, we'll only have one extra slot

Another moot point.

Glamours don't fix the classes looking the same at all unless I glamour on the artifact gear....and that's only because white mages can't wear the ugly scholar uniform or whatever class you're doing.

I agree with limited space but I feel that will be fixed in time.

Also, honestly, as convenient as it is, being able to level a class then just use the same gear as another class is stupid to begin with. But that's just me coming from other MMOs, probably.

Classes should be different and have unique outfits and gear specifically to them. :/

Maybe they will come up with tier sets like in WoW, distributed by tokens that drop from bosses. I really hope they do that someday.
