Cool idea brah. This community rocks
I noticed a couple things with it that you might want to look at.
- The base values of every stat are not actually factored into damage the same way stats added by gear do. I mean that the first 341 points of Crit Rate and Skill Speed don't count, and neither do the first 202 points of Determination. Furthermore, it's very possible that your base Main Stat doesn't count either. We can compensate for this by not putting those particular numbers into the application, but you might want to check for overallocation of stats and subtract them by the proper amounts during the calculation.
- Weights on gear are not static. Stat weights vary based on how much of the other stats you currently possess. This means that every unique set of gear has its own set of stat weights. In order to properly "score" things, you need to use damage formulas instead of the static weights Dervy and Purostrider calculated.
This is a great idea, and it can be incredibly helpful if we can get accurate gear checking for every class.
i have to be that guy right?
*sigh*
*inhales*
3rd party software is against the TOS and by posting this you are risking your account.
now that that is out of the way, it looks useful for a comparison between bis items and the items you have equipped but what stops people from just using FFXIVDB or that new one garlean data which lets you make quick and easy lists.
@Donjo, you are right and I'm aware of this. I need to improve it. Actually that's work but not that accurate.
@Draco, damned, are you sure that is really a problem? I mean, my application is like pen and paper but on computer. You hit the boss, miss? not miss? try again and find the right number. Same for stat.
And when you already know every cap. Just check it.
If a mod could be nice enough to just warning me if I break the rules ... I'll instantly and definitly stop the development.
Edit: Rules are imprecise ... I don't really use materials from the game or datas. Except what everyone can see ig. I need to check that.
Thanks to make me read the rules again. You had the be that guy yep. I like my account. :p
It's sad they tell us (London fanfest) that part of an MMO is for the communitie to find out stat weights which is partly true.
At the moment it's like buying an IKEA closet but you're not allowed to use any tools to assemble it. You know what to do, you just can't.
This is not acceptable. This is why 9 out of 10 streams show their parser. They don't care since some things belong in an MMO.
its a major grey area, Yoshi-p has said he knows parsers and 3rd party apps that do what you say yours do, are apart of any MMO, but they don't want it in the game due to people abusing it,
but the rules they have are rather vague on it, since it mentions reading or editing files, but some parsers read, the battle log, another reason they don't want any 3rd party apps is mostly because of users like me, who are on ps4 who cannot use those softweres,
You are being a hall monitor over something that is no more of a 3rd party app than using ms calculator to add up the cost of crafting materials and accomplishing nothing but disencouraging someone from contributing to the community with something they spent a lot of time on.
I hope you are happy.
why use a program when u can create a web that does the same thing ? (avoiding 3rd party software issues)
This isnt a third party app...in the context game devs use. This feature in no way requires the load data from the client from the network or the client, it simply just enter into a field, thats like saying my MS Excel thats installed onto my computer should get me banned from playing this game. Seriously, get smarter people.
SE even said at london fanfest, if people want to know more theory crafting, to go online to find the values.
'who are on ps4 who cannot use those softweres'
are you telling me that a PS4 user does not have access to MS excel in any form of way and is unable to upload a spreadsheet online for others to use and view?
For the Dragoon at least, I base sets on DPS rather than just straight weights, but 9 times out of 10, the weights do measure up with the damage increases.
And yes, an actual damage calculator to aid gearing up would be much more helpful.
Also, a program like this isn't against the ToS lol. That's like saying using excel solvers and Python/Java Scripts to calculate stuff is against the ToS.
If the program doesn't read the games logs, read/edit memory, inject itself into the client, or force packets through (teleport hacking), then it's perfectly safe and doesn't breach the ToS.
i read over the thing on my tablet and didn't know it was a calculator, nor that it was something like that, it seemed to be a 3rd party add on Akin to the mods you find on FFXIV,
am i happy, no
did i not want to see a project get scrapped or a user banned yes, i didn't wish to see him get banned a better place for this is reddit.
if i mis-understood and thought it to be a 3rd party add-on then other people would of including mods.
that is why i had to 'be the hall monitor'
if you made something and posted it here and it was a app on the side like his was, someone would eventually, say the same thing.
i do hope to reset his project, on Reddit, or re worded on here so there is no mistake on it sounding like a modification to the game which would get him banned.
a simple mis-understanding with some of the wordings led me to assume a mod, but the last statement is what i should of stated to begin with.
