About DoL/DoH gear

from what i see all DoL got same stats on gear so i start to consider if they share same set of gear ofc except main and off-hand. Same question about all DoH classes, they share same gear (except main/off-hand ofc)?? Can i have one set and link to all DoH/DoL??

Yes, up until 50 all DoH classes use the same gear and all DoL classes use the same gear, aside from, as you said, main and offhand gear. Teh only difference is with Fisher, where you can completely ignore all left side gear as all it adds is GP. Up until you hit 50, that is, and start melding materia, but that's another ballgame entirely.

It's one of the two big advantages of leveling them in sync, so all your crafting classes stay near the same level and all your gatherers are near the same level. They get to share gear that way. (The other advantage being the intermediate ingredients that crafting classes provide to each other.)

Can you pass gear from different classes, like tools. clothes and gathered materials between two or more of your characters on the same server then?
I have been levelling a few characters together, but I just got to melding with a level 22Gladiator and a level 18 Blacksmith. I am so disappointed that I couldn't now just equip my Gladiator with materia?
Surely I don't have to level almost every doh just so that I can equip materia on all the different bits of kit separately?
I need an armourer for armour, a weaver for Grimoirs etc etc. It seems a very clumsy way to just get the odd 1 and 2 stat bonuses you get from materia at this stage. Or am I missing something important in my gameplay?

Materia doesn't really make a difference until endgame... I don't recommend melding until then.

Also, you can meld (at a very low chance) up to five pieces of materia onto one item, the stat bonuses add up then. Personally I dont use it because it really is only important if you want best in slot for, say, hardcore endgame raiding or something... and I don't care about that.

Edit: oh, i forgot.. you can't pass gear once it's been spiritbonded to you, ie if you've used an action while wearing it (harvesting something successfully, making an item successfully, killing an enemy). So if it isn't bonded and it isnt "untradeable" you can have a friend give it to your alt for you.
Also, if you don't want to level all crafters, you can ask others to meld for you. If they're currently in a DoH class, right click/bring up submenu and select "request meld". You don't trade them the items, you have to have all the items, all they do is meld for you. Best to ask the person first, of course.

So after i reach 50 on all my DoH/DoL i must have separate set of gear for any DoH/DoL if i want endgame crafting right??

I don't have any crafts at endgame yet, but if you want to progress I believe you do, yes. Left side gear anyway (other than the belt?), right side gear should be the same for the most part (aside from your offhand of course).

This is true until you get into the level 70 or 60 artisan's and forager's sets, which are once again for all classes.

To expand on this - for endgame crafting you will want most if not all your crafts at 50 but in order to get the level 70 artisan set from Talan you only need to decently gear one of them, since all crafting classes have turn ins they can use to get the 70 Artisan set to use for all your classes. The turn in items aren't very hard to HQ if you put in the effort to get HQ materials so you only need to hit the minimum stat requirements to make them which shouldn't be too difficult.

That said, fully melded Class-specific gear is very very slightly better (maybe 1 point per item or so) so if you want to put in the time or effort you will get a small benefit for doing so.

The level 60 crafted Artisan set is the hands down best crafting gear if fully melded but you will need to invest time and/or money to get it.

For crafting/gathering classes, if all classes can equip the gear, all classes can use the gear. There is only one set of class-specific gear - the i55 "AF" set. When fully melded with Materia, this set is the second best in the game, and it's by far the cheapest to get of the 2-4 endgame sets (two for gatherers, four for crafters).

The crafter endgame body-gear sets (chest, arms, legs, feet) are, from best to worst:

1. i60 crafted Artisan's gear, fully melded
2. i55 crafted class-specific AF gear, fully melded
3. i70 token trade-in Artisan's gear from Talan (unmeldable)
4. i60 crafted Artisan's gear, unmelded
5. i50 crafted Patrician's gear, fully melded
6. i55 crafted class-specific AF gear, unmelded
7. i50 crafted Patrician's gear, unmelded

(Why they used the same name for the two Artisan's sets is beyond me.)

There is no i60 crafted Artisan's headgear, and the i70 token trade-in Artisan's Spectacles from Talan are better than fully melded AF hats.

The unmeldable i70 Ehcatl Smithing Gloves from the Ixali Beast Tribe (the crafting beast tribe) are on par with fully melded class-specific AF gloves (+3 Control, -3 CP) and are a viable alternative if you are leveling your Ixali rep along with your crafter classes. Upgrading them to Artisan's Mitts only gives you +3 CP over the Ixali gloves.

For accessories and belts (none of which are class-specific), the i55 crafted items are the best, but the belt, earrings, and necklace can get expensive since they take 10x Fieldcraft Demimateria Is each. The second best for those slots (cheaper alternatives until you can get the endgame ones) are the i45 Red Coral Earrings, the i48 Raptorskin Merchant's Purse, and the i49 Electrum Choker.

As someone else recommended, to be as economical as possible, once you hit 50 with a class, I recommend getting the AF gear for that class, the i55 belt/accessories, the Militia offhand tool, and the blue i55 primary hand tool that you get from the level 50 class quest. Then, meld everything but the headgear and the offhand (starting with the accessories). Then, craft the turn-in token items that you can trade in for the i70 Artisan's set (starting with the spectacles)

So, start with http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/PNUT. Once there, meld your accessories to get to http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/PNUY, and then meld some craftsmanship materia into a few of your body pieces and/or offhand 100% slots until you have 347 Craftsmanship (minimum required to craft 2* recipes), something like this: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/PNV1. Then, make the tokens to turn in for the i70 Artisan gear, resulting in http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/PNV2. Then, for each class, craft the turn-in items for the i70 Artisan's main hand tool. Once you have all the main hand Artisan's tools, you will be able to craft up to 3* recipes with every class, and you only had to meld your accessories.

This is a very cheap way to get all classes up to the 3* level. Getting all classes to 4* is much harder, but this path should jumpstart your crafting. From there, you can start working on your Supra tools, Lucis tools, assembling the funds for the i60 crafted Artisan's set (tends to go for 1-2 million a piece with current prices), and getting the Artisan's offhand tools for each class.

Random note, crafting stat requirements:

• 1*: 275 Craftsmanship
• 2*: 347 Craftsmanship, 318 Control
• 3*: 391 Craftsmanship, 374 Control
• 4*: 451 Craftsmanship, 407 Control

Non-crafting/gathering materia only makes a difference with endgame crafted gear, and the melds (and gear) cost so many millions, the vast majority of players don't bother with using melded combat gear at all. When melding combat gear, keep in mind that all gear has strict stat caps, and all main stats and vitality start out capped. So, you can't meld STR or VIT materia to a GLD sword because it already has as much STR and VIT as it can get, but you might be able to meld Accuracy or Determination if they're not maxed already. At endgame, all non-accessories naturally have the damage stat(s) for the class(es) maxed, vitality maxed, one secondary (acc, det, crit, skill speed, spell speed, piety, parry) maxed, and one secondary not maxed. Accessories have the same, except they have only one main stat (STR, DEX, INT, MND, VIT) instead of 1-2 non-VIT + VIT.

As someone else said, you can have another player meld your gear for you via the Request Meld feature.

SE deliberately made it difficult to pass items between your own characters. You're meant to do everything on a single character in this game, as one character can level all classes. Any transfers of items between characters on the same account have to go through another person not on the account.
