Last night upon logging in, I was bombarded with RMTs. Five tells in under two minutes according to the timestamps, all from different player accounts. My blacklist stays pretty full.
This wouldn't be a problem, but I want to spend a lot of my time on FFXIV actually playing instead of filling out reports.
The Suggestion!
or even a "Blacklist & Report" option. This would quickly send a report to a GM reporting the players name for RMT action, along with the time so that GMs could easily track down and review the chat for that time.
False reports are a concern.
Which in turn leads to the suggestion: If multiple reports are filed against the same player name, those reports merge into one. More reports of that individual would move them higher on the list of reports; an increase in priority.

So I messaged a GM, and they apologized understanding how annoying it can be, and informed me the best course of action is to simply blacklist them and then file a report. I was unsure if old names in my BL were banned or not, since not many of them became (Deleted) names, but the kind GM told me that only occurs when a person deletes their account, not as a result of a ban.
Pros:- Report RMTs with one two clicks.
- Keep playing with minimal time reporting players
- False RMT reports
- Reporting players who aren't RMTs solely to save time on a full report.

That should make the review pretty simple for the GM, who could tell at a glance whether the report is justified about the RMT spam claim. I would like to have an option where i can blacklist ppl via the player search window... Once or twice an hour i search the whole world for lvl 1 characters and its easy to say who's an RMT and who's not. But i cant blacklist them there... I have to click "send tell", then change the /tell to /blacklist add "name" ... cause without the " " this results into an error.
I am so, so, SO sick of the RMT's... Its not my job to play police for SE... And if i do and report them (especially farming bots) i do run into them again and again for weeks... So reporting is supposed to help? Sorry, lost trust into this feature :/ -

Most RMT spammers disappear pretty rapidly... either they've been forcibly removed or simply logged out themselves to avoid detection, moving on to a new character.
Here are all the SPAM tells I've received over a 12 hour period while I was AFK. There was only one that got it's SPAM to me twice. None of these we're blacklisted by me (I was AFK).
I think the only way to stop these is to restrict /tell to players above a certain level. Or those who have amassed a certain amount of play time.Quote:

The only reason RMT spam is so bad in this game is because SE isn't doing anything to stop it. Sure, they do a sweep once a month or so and ban a bunch of accounts, but a month is plenty of time for the RMT companies to make money from them, so these occasional sweeps are nearly meaningless. The bans have to come immediately in order to have any real effect. If we got that "Report RMT" option and, most importantly, SE had GMs monitoring them real-time to ban them real-time, then the spam bots wouldn't be able to get more than a handful of messages out before their whole account is blocked. With their low sale to ad message ratio, most spam accounts wouldn't bring even a single customer to their site. As soon as that happens, all the RMT companies would quit trying to advertise in-game and move their whole advertising budget into ads on third-party sites, simply because the in-game spam would be losing them money. Now, by itself, that wouldn't stop the actual RMT, but it would immediately and completely eliminate RMT spam.
(Stopping the RMT itself is a different issue because the farming bots are far harder to identify than the spam bots. Real players farm stuff in pretty much the same ways that bots farm stuff, and SE has to do a thorough enough check of a character's background to determine which it is before banning them. The one second glance to say "yes, that's RMT" only works for the spam messages.)
Of course, implementing a "Report RMT spam" option and needing to respond immediately to all the reports that come in from it would create a flood of work for the GMs the first few days after it comes out. Even if the reports only take them a second or two to process, there would initially be a lot of them. But as soon as the RMT companies figure out that this is no longer profitable and they quit trying to send in-game spam, the corresponding reports would dry up as well, letting the GMs get back to all the rest of the stuff they need to be doing. So if that initial rush is too much for their regular GM staff to handle, SE could just hire a few temps or temporarily reassign a few people from other areas to providing the GMs with some backup during maybe that first week or two. It's not like it would continue to be a ton of work on an ongoing basis. -

If i find a group of warping ppl underground (only names showing up above the earth) with names like Aiaoa Aiaoa, Aiaob Aiaob, Aiaoc Aiaoc etc its pretty sure they are bots... If you examine them they all wear the same equip (mostly low lvl), none of them is in a FC...
Unfortenately it is not allowed to post videos of them doing this on the forums, neither is real namecalling (the names above are not the ones i found, they are just similar).
I really wish there would be an option to call a GM to these places to let them check that out while they do that. I know, its not possible but i still wish i could... Cause i am spending way too much time to blacklist and report these days. It really starts to steal my actual playtime <.< -

if we give them the website names that are on there cant they have them shut down? cause i started to write some down incase this will actually help because the spamming on my server is so terrible i get at least 10-20 spams in the time span of an hour. maybe put an option in the settings that you can have only friends send you tells or players within a certain distance? i mean i love this game but the spamming is just as bad as diablo 2. what they are doing is considered soliciting money right? if that is the case i will gladly write down every website address and give them to square enix.

Placing arbitrary restrictions on the /tell or /flist features will not stop RMT. RMT bots can be programmed to level or finish quests easily enough - it would just be a part of the login process for the bots, just like creating a character and generating a name. Arbitrary restrictions such as level requirements or quest requirements, unless the quests include a form of in-game captcha mechanic, negatively impact legitimate players more than the RMT bots.
Currently, the vast majority of RMT bots never send the same person more than one tell. They make the character, burst a message across to everyone they can find, and then delete their character and make a new one. Or, they just make a new one - the account will be banned before long, so all they really need to do is get the message out to as many people on as many servers as they can before that happens.
Because blacklists are specific to a character and not to an account, blacklisting an offender really don't do anything either. All it does is turn into a chore when your blacklist fills and you have to start removing everyone individually. And, in my case, it results in me accidentally blacklisting a number of legit players who sent me questions just after an RMT tell, resulting in my blist macro hitting them instead of the RMT. :(
Really, as players, there honestly isn't much we can do about RMT with the game in its current state. Reporting their advertising bots is ineffective because they'll just get more. Bans on one-use-and-delete characters and one-use-and-delete accounts does nothing to stop the actual RMT business. Reporting bots is more useful in that regard, but it's really hard to prove someone is botting, and player reports of bots never seem to go very far. Blacklisting the advert bots does nothing since they bot only hits you once anyway.
As long as RMT is profitable, there will be RMT spam. The trick isn't to remove the spam, the trick is to make RMT unprofitable by making money-generating tasks more difficult/time-consuming for characters with minimal effort invested in them.
To really kill RMT, SE can increase shard yields from sources other than level 1 gathering. SE can make gathering nodes behave like fishing holes - gather from the same set for too long and you are prevented from collecting anything till you switch to new nodes (would affect a very small amount of legit players but would hinder all gathering bots). SE could take other such actions that directly target the ability for RMT to make money. -

Guys, something isn't right here, and we need to fix this. I can't report 9 players an hour (average /tell rate) with the current reporting system.I'm not looking for a cure to the RMT plague, there is no {Esuna} for it. I just want an easier system for reporting RMTs, easier for players and GMs alike.

Restricting /tell has the obvious downside of making it harder for new players to communicate. Besides that, I expect the main effect it would have would be that spambots would bot for 10 hours (or up to level 10 or whatever the requirement is) before converting to spam mode.
Spammers might end up having to make their assembly line longer, but you can bet that they will still manufacture the same number of new spambots per hour. -

I logged on, deleted the top 20... only 30 minutes later i already blisted 10 new RMT's again. No matter what time it is, there are always up to 35 lvl 1 characters, most of them in Uldah. Their newest trick is to log out immediately after their spam. You cant even blacklist them that fast, so they dont even get caught anymore?
I remember SE found a way to get rid of this advertising in FFXI... Why is it not possible here?
And what makes me angry the most: Yes they do post "hey we banned so many RMT accounts these days"... but the numbers compared to the servers are nothing... And what i absolutely miss is a statement like "we are aware that there is a huge problem with advertising tells... please be patient, we are working on it"... That would give me the feeling that something will happen one day and that all the lost time blisting/unblisting/reporting is worth something :/ -

SE could implement a honeypot character or characters in the game that can batch and flag accounts it receives tells from. Don't think it would be too difficult to implement something of that nature and it would certainly automate and act upon RMTs fairly quickly. This along with the report RMT spam feature that after 30-50 unique people report it the account is flagged and silenced for an hour for a GM to scrutinize it and make a determination based on the reports. The honeypot strategy can also work in conjunction with the unique report as further confirmation of a illicit account, if its reported on both sides something is DEFINITELY not kosher,if two or three honeypot characters receive tells from the same account then that already should be suspect already. Those accounts can be pretty much removed without even glancing at them.

The bots just beginning to spam people might be ones created a couple hours ago and the ones being created now wouldn't start their spam for another couple hours, but if the same number are being created at the same rate, then the overall amount of spam stays the same. SE should give Turbine Inc. a call. When they first launched their Lord of the Rings Online mmo , for the first few months there were gold sellers spamming all over the place, even in the in-game mailboxes.
I don't know how they did it, but the dev team had completely annihilated gold spamming during the 5 years I spent playing that game. Never got a gold spam ONCE DURING THAT ENTIRE TIME. It was damn impressive. -

Why can't we at least get a patchjob that searches for the strings ".com" ".net", ".org", ect and automatically filters tells with those strings in it out? That code isn't even hard to write.
This would affect a very small number of players in normal game, but would essentially shut down any gil spammers in /tell, and you could expand that code to also take chat modes outside of /p, /fc, and /ls if desired. The code could also be altered to filter whitespace characters (spaces and tabs) and to replace 0's with o's in the checks
I mean, this seems like it would be the bare minimum of service that we should get for a game that we are paying for. Filter out what could be reasonably a spambot message. I am certain there is a programmer out there who could make this in 1 day, and have it tested and in our hands in time for Golden Casino. Please, PLEASE Square Enix, make this a thing! -

The tells only really started infecting the game when free trials were implemented. If they put in a credit card verification for free trials that would most likely cut down on the RMTs by quite alot. Asking for a credit card can filter out much of the trolling kids, RMT traders, and players who don't intend to stay past a few weeks.
With a subscription model, they could implement a PLEX program much like the one like from EVE.
PLEX(Pilot License Extension) is a in-game item that can be used to extend your subscription time on the game. Players purchase it through say the mog-station and can sell it on the AH or trade it to other people if they wish. It opens a safe avenue for players to acquire cash through SE and other players. People who want to buy in-game cash are not going away. But, a system can be put in place that allows a safe method to satisfy the demand and cut at the RMTs. -
