OT in LotA/ST/WoD

So i recently got into endgame tanking with my WAR and most of the time everything runs smoothy in dungeons,trials,etc.The only problem i have are in 24 people raids.MT is easy and boring so i always OT and try to group the adds up so we can take them down,but the are too scattered around to get them with 1 overpowered/flash/steel cylone,so i try to get 1 with my tomahawk and run to the others,but the BLM and BRD's always get the aggro before me and run around scatereing them even more.in time i can get 1 off the blm a drg got aggro of the first one,while the brd still runs around and its just a big mess.

For LotA there's a grand total of 6 tanks, only 1 of which is MT. You don't have to pick up everything in that case, just try to get as many as possible and concentrate on your adds.

In ST/WoD you have 1 MT and 2 OTs, again, you don't need to pick up everything but there also isn't a lot to pick up. Those flowers in the Cerberus fight can hit like a truck so make sure to pick those up if the other tank isn't.

If you don't have it already, get Provoke. It will make getting aggro back on one mob a lot more manageable. Provoke -> Tomahawk or Provoke -> OP.

If you're hitting more than 1 mob with OP/SC, you shouldn't use Tomahawk. You want to get aggro on as many things as you can in one GCD.

You're probably doing better than you think you are, just try not to panic when things get a bit hectic. You're not the only OT, the other(s) need to do their job as well.

You trying to OT at all is a good thing. Usually all the tanks gather around the biggest trash enemy and try to MT -_-

But yea, following Provoke with an enmity move is good (Tomahawk, OP, SS, or BB).

Not sure if they do it because of e-peen or laziness. I only fight for the MT spot if I see that my gear is better, but a lot of the time I just don't bother if they're capable of tanking.

If you just started, the DPS (some of them) might be very well geared above you. Just do what you can. As someone said, just the fact that you try to watch the adds and gather them up is wonderful. Also, be fast (can be harder with a larger mob group) to see what the mob you just lost enmity with is beating on. As long as it is another tank, ok fine, turn your attention to what you have remaining.

Just be sure you establish it that you're going to be holding adds, alliance wide if necessary. I've seen it way too often that if I don't go in as a healer in spots like World of Darkness, the off tank will just drop like a rock because almost every healer tunnel visions the main tank.
As for the issue of "Too many adds to hold on with people ripping as I go", don't fret. The fact that you're picking up any is still heads and tails above what some tanks do. If necessary, take a few Overpowers to secure hate on the few you have before trying to shuffle over to the next mob. As you run more, you'll get used to where the adds spawn, tend to get clustered, and so on. So that issue will go away with time, tomes, and drops.

Lol I saw Sir Taint in LotA last night on my alt.

the fun part of tanking st is to be mt and grab everything and hold it all... scare your healers pray dps is quick enough and look like the monster tank you should be....

same for wod.. although youll die more often.


seriously though.. if your grabbing hate and holding it on half the trash your doing your job right.. and no you wont keep hate on everything cus you have 15 dps trying to steal the show...

Not to mention the tanks that must use Provoke every time it is available, even when something is already beating on another tank. :confused:

Yeah, I tend to prefer OT-ing in the towers, partly because of the constant aggro war between tanks and very few wanting to go for adds. Though sometimes I've run into epeen OTs trying to grab "my" adds as well as their own -- or worse, ignoring "their" adds. (Say I'm C tank, and handle the adds on the right side of the arena... and then the A tank runs over and grabs "my" add which i've already established aggro on, while ignoring the left side add going for healers or other squishies... If I'm B tank, I'll most likely pick the side of whichever party the MT is and grab those adds.)

Sometimes I've announced it as the start, like "dibs on OT" in alliance chat, especially if the other two are paladins, as that enables me to keep up debuffs on the main boss when there are no adds to handle. Other times I don't, and just go to position myself where I know adds will spawn soon. Sure, maybe I miss a GCD or few of damage on the main baddie, but at least I'll be in position and not have to chase the add(s) around XD

Of course, sometimes OTing isn't working, like when I manage to steal aggro with Defiance off >.< Or with Defiance on in preparation for adds, but while doing SP/SE combo instead of BB. Or when no other tank pulls at all, and we end up with impatient!dps pulling. (Or accident!pulling, like forgetting Foe's or forgetting their pet is on Sic and rightclicking on boss instead of leftclicking...)
